It's notorious that he could regain ridiculous amounts of weight between weight-in and fight night, he said it himself he would enter the cage at 210-219lb when he was at middleweight (185lb), I personally attribute a lot of his KO power to that, he simply was not in the same weight league as the other guys. I hope they train together & can help each other evolve since they were each other's biggest competition. It's awesome to see Alex overcome his addictions. I struggled with substances and overcame it and it's amazing how he was able to overcome that & succeed so much in combat sports.

Pereira is a pure fighter. All he cares about is having a good fight with his opponent, and that means respecting his opponent for who they are in every way. He enjoys having someone to challenge him.

GSP deserves the GOAT title because of the folliwing: respect, honor, discipline and perseverance. Being a fighter and a good person who can serve as an ambassador for the sport, and fighting as a whole is a rare gem. As a parent there are so few fighters that i can look at and say "I want my son to be like that" or "i would be proud if my daughter married a man like that". Being the most well rounded dominant, adaptable fighter who destroyed the best of the best for over a decade, and still stayed a respectable man -GSP is that guy.

He speedran MW and LHW and became champion in both divisions, but the caliber of fighters he had to fight to get there are one of the best. I don't care if you're the biggest Poatan hater, you cannot deny his achievements. He fought EIGHT times in the UFC against 7 opponents, and FIVE of those opponents were former champions. Not to mention that he did this in 2 years, in 2 divisions.

I replied to comment here before but felt the need to go a little more in depth about his alcoholic past. The fact that this man is sharp and motivated to do all of this is simply a miracle. As someone that had a similar upbringing to Pereira (zona sul de São Paulo). I can confirm that his alcoholism was really bad because I was the same way. Might seem impossible but after daily drinking 80 proof for a while, you will be able to down 800ml to a liter a day easily. Constant drinking from when you wake up to when go to bed will build insane amounts of tolerance, and then it will just become a habit. And I don't mean being moody when you dont have a drink or two, alcohol withdrawal is a scary and deadly syndrome that not only takes a toll mentally but physically. I couldn't hold a cup of water because of how bad my shakes and tremors were. Anxiety, not being able to sleep and tachycardia where just the start. I not only respect Pereira for career but also his other battles in life Took some years to get off the sauce but happy I am alive and healthier than I was 10 years ago
