If you told me 15 years ago... that I'd be listening to the guy from fear factor, speaking to a Jungian Canadian superstar, during the presidency of Donald Trump...and having one of the most transformative internal debates within myself I would say, bullshit. Yet here we are. I made my bed this morning, threw out my cigarettes, whiskey and beer. Good luck everyone.

I think sometimes about Peterson's wife. I recently saw the documentary on Peterson on amazon prime and she says she has "lost her husband to the world". I would assume because of all the time it takes up for his (what I would call) crusade. She has stood by him and "been a great help". I think maybe both Jordan and Tammy Peterson have made considerable sacrifices for our benefit. For that I am grateful.

Listening to JP is becoming so much more interesting, intriguing and wholesome than church services on Sunday...If you listen well enough, its so much better!!....Such a blessing this man is to mankind....Pastors and reverends...take notes!!!.....

I've identified two problems. There are probably more. 1. The most significant problem is that >95% of churches are feminist. They redact whole sections of the Bible because they offend modern feminist sensibilities, their sensibilities. Feminism and Christianity are not merely mutually exclusive; they are in a battle to the death. When churches become feminist, the Word is corrupted, and they become heretical. 2. They self-censor to avoid losing their 501c3 tax exemption. Churches have submitted to government bribery and censorship.

I guess it depends who you listen to on Sundays. I've had that same feeling in the past too, but it went away once i started to listen to pastors who did expository preaching so well, that i was eager to hear the rest of the message. And of course, it also helps that later in life, i went from cultural Christian to someone who truly believes in Jesus Christ. It made the Sunday messages much more interesting, once i had love for who the message was about.

Introduced a 17 year-old student to Dr Peterson's podcasts as he was a self described nihilist and very deep thinker. He look so sad the day I met him. He said life was not worth living. I was concerned for him. There appeared to be a darkness in his face as we talked and he seemed without hope. I saw him again yesterday. Wow different young guy. Standing taller, happier, there was a light in his face... He couldn't wait to share he was still listening to Dr Peterson's talks and was really enjoying them. I am so grateful I had something to offer him that first day I met him that made a difference to him.

From 1:17:00 and that next 7 minutes really spoke to me - hating essays in school BECAUSE the subjects assigned were of zero interest. Decades passed, I became a journalist/essayist, refining and clarifying my thoughts "on paper", exploring subjects that I was passionate about, even if it was for an audience of one. I am so grateful to have had one or two moments in my life where someone has thanked me for being the catalyst for their own self-improvement. They did the hard work but they were thanking me... so humbling.

not really about "curing" its a product of biological insentives women are given at birth, which makes them more inclined to psychological issues as we see it today but if you go far enough back theres a biological reasoning behind why women are more proned to depression and anxiety and men more inclined for violent and anti social behaviour and yes, JP mentions this just wanted to point it out anywho

yeah but i've never understood how religious people fall so short then. they fly planes into our buildings and kill 7000 people... that's obviously what the bible says NOT to do...i'm sure it also states the same in whatever "book" like the Koran and any other volume. so , given that, why are religious people murderous beyond belief? even if they don't KILL anyone, they still picket gay funerals, they still step over the homeless person dressed in their best sunday suit to hypocritically show off their piety. given all that, i'd have to agree with Hitchens, that religion poisons EVERYthing. when we can actually golden rule our lives, i'll swallow your religion whole. but since that IS NOT what i see happening when our preists diddle little boys, then avoid procecution and relocate to another field where they can repeat it. there should be no such thing as a rich church, yet the vatican has more gold than morals in any case. so we follow the "book" as interpeted any way we want to , you know, to break the rules stated clearly, but doesn't apply to them at all. they also shouldn't be tax free just because they were taught religion while their brains were still soft at age 5

As a theologically conservative, conventionally religious Christian, I must stress that Jordan Peterson's Christianity isn't Christianity in any historically meaningful sense. He is a Jungian who borrows Christian imagery and applies his own meanings to it. I enjoy Dr Peterson's material for the most part, but he's causing confusion about what Christianity is. For those of us concerned with doctrinal orthodoxy, we have a lot of trouble with Dr. Peterson's use of Christian symbolism. Lest it be said that this is an issue of interpretation, Biblical scholars, linguists and the like can demonstrate where Dr. Peterson and Mr. Pageau err in their understanding of the text, so the issues are matters of fact rather than interpretation.

They are more central in their beliefs and can come together to discuss difficult subjects in a cordial manner. If you put even 1 polarized /extreme person in a conversation, typically nothing is learned because they are unwilling/insecure to accept any other views that contradict their own. We as people/countries/world need to meet in the middle to be able to actually HEAR/UNDERSTAND and enevidably LEARN about each other. Sometimes thoughts are traps that defeat meaning. Religion too. I've found seeing and examining the outside world makes one wise. Madness, shallowness and disdain, even "narcissism" come from thinking heavily. As every other human, he has his pros and cons, he is otherwise very polarizing. He has interesting ideas but he is really slow at recognizing failures or cognitive bias from his side (nothing wrong with that, everybody does it). I am kind of in the middle because he has some really interesting stuff to say but then he goes into religion (and other wacky stuff), when he obviously knows he has nothing on it, still he keeps pushing some themes which do not really resonate with everyone.

@UncleJemima420 For sure. Whats crazy to me, is that after deleting my social media, I would still reflexively open my phone and look for Facebook at dozens of moments throughout the day. (maybe more) Almost like any time there wasn't enough stimulus in my immediate environment, I would just go there by default and tune out the world. After a few weeks, I quit doing that and I noticed that I feel so much more aware of my surroundings. It sounds super stupid maybe...but like, I travel a lot for work and I notice people/animals/things...what they're doing around me. I feel like giving it up has not only reduced my stress, but lifted a burden off my mind. I don't need to come up with any snappy one liners. I don't need a "current/trendy" Facebook profile pictures. It's been super good =)

@UncleJemima420 Again i agree with everything u said , i like his books and his thoughts about life and how to make it better ,what i dislike is his argument about IQ and race , it tries to promote white supremacy when a cultural thing would be the right argument eg. Asian americans(Chinese & indians) are most sucessful & rich per person in usa but u would think looking at the state of India & china that wouldnt be the case . he boderline calls black american dumb & unsuccesgul by genes which is absolutely stupid , the argument for african americans being unsuccesful can be attrbuted to cultural phenomenon of single mother raising kids no father around , having a drug problem in black culture & hating authority

Part of that is cleaning a little every day. It's something I struggle with as well. It's so "easy" to just drop something on a chair or leave it on a desk rather than put it away. Which contributes to clutter. Part of this folds back to the personal responsibility and how we go about managing our responsibilities, first to ourselves and then moving out from there. I'm not great at it either, hell I keep trying to get the motivation to start working out to improve myself, it's hard and I find myself pushing on all sorts of margins trying to be better. It's hard. It sucks. It's also rewarding.

I like Jordan's ideas, but I definitely would not want him as my dad. He is uncompromising and talks in absolutist terms. He is very assured that he has it all figured out correctly, and there seems to be little room for other ideas. This is great if you are a lecturer, but it's no fun to be judged your entire life by your father, it'll just make you resentful and not want to be near him, or worse yet rebellious and physically combative.

Jordan’s breakdown of Joe’s strengths was so: 1. True 2. Extremely well thought-out 3. Well-articulated 4. Weirdly heartwarming There’s something in here that is indicative of how to give a good compliment. I think Jordan acts out what he describes in his lectures about the one who ascends to the top has eyes all around his head (pays attention) and speaks magic words (uses well-articulated and effective speech). He really paid attention to Joe, broke down why he’s successful, and then effortlessly stated it back to him in a really genuine way. Think if we all did this with those in our lives.

It's clear to me that he believes such hierarchies to have aided females in the sexual selection process. Now, I'm just waiting until he admits that archetypes may in large-part be the result of sexual selection. That women will continue to select the heroes that rise to the top of society.

It's very much a different mindset from the intellectual debates years ago which were little more than "I *know* god doesn't exist" vs "I *know* god exists", and it's a breath of fresh air for anyone who not only wants to grapple with an idea, but to see it grow.

He's subtly making it seem like the other side wants the result to be pre-determined. In other words, he's completely misrepresenting the argument... shocking.

@Mr. Bum Tickler the prior commenter was making a reference to Dr Peterson's recent medical problems and severe health scares. Unfortunately they seem to have either misread, been misinformed, or misunderstood what was presented to them. The gist is that Dr Peterson had an extremely severe reaction to a Benzodiazipine he had been proscribed by his doctor. Benzos are also extremely addictive even in prescription doses, and the withdrawal can be life threatening. Dr Peterson tried tapering and micro tapering the meds but wasn't able to detox, so he and his family took him to a specialist clinic in Russia to detox and he was in a medically induced coma for quite awhile. He's now out of the coma and starting to recover, but has a long way to go. The real kicker that makes all this so much worse, is that all this happened and he was proscribed the meds to deal with severe depression as his wife has terminal cancer. AFAIK she's still alive, but IDK what her condition is like. TLDR my reading is that the prior poster was implying that Dr Peterson had abused prescription meds instead of becoming addicted even while following the Dr's instructions, and then having an extreme reaction to the same meds.

Even though Joe doesn't say much during his interviews with Jordan Peterson, the sheer amount of respect he holds for JP is so palpable and so genuine, that even though Joe isn't "participating", he is. As an avid listener of Joe's podcasts, I just love when him and Jordan get together because Joe is the most perfect and engaged listener - he knows exactly the right moments to interject, to share relevant anecdotes and to ask questions. He not only allows Jordan to think out loud, but his insightful commentary without ever really interrupting really encourages JP to be his true self. Jordan, IMO, is always at his best during his conversations with Joe, and that says so much more about Joe than I think he gets credited for. Such an engaging podcast! You learn how to think from Jordan, and how to behave from Joe. Love them both.

The thing is, coming from a coach, (hard to listen to 2 non coaches talk about pedagogy) is that if you scale and structure the teaching correctly, you dont have to try to push a meaning onto anything, as the structure of the class holds it within it. the conflict comes when you scale and progress the class unnaturally for their abilities and stress means you try to teach meaning directly, and in the face of skill acquisition and a score keeping game like soccer, you end up bombarding kids with 3 levels of nuance that causes even more confusion and stress. Like the 'medium is the message', the structure and scale of the class carries the pedagogical meaning within it as to not be overtly obvious to the kid, like in school, when you re in 4th grade, you do not realize that you re preparing for precal but the curriculum is set up, to scale, for that process to happen subconsciously. You do not try to teach a 4th grader that in 8 years you are going to need to know how to do huge equations so you can get into college, cos all they ll ask is 'whats college?' and you ve confused and stressed the shit out of them when you re trying to teach them simple math.

He shows that he has a decent head on his shoulders. He may not quite have the intellect of people like Dr. Peterson, Elon Musk or Bret and Eric Weinstein, etc etc .... however he can definitely hold his own in their discussions. I told one of them on the one-to-one talk that I actually do not really see the point in getting this education, because honestly speaking, all I ever wanted was to have a child. I do not have ambition or the need to prove myself to anyone. I just want to be a part of raising a human being well. "I'd love to be a stay-at-home mother", I said. The outrage that arose... They both took me eye to eye. "A woman MUST have a job, career. You must want more to yourself. It is no good to be dependent on a man." I was stunned by the stone-wall. I told them, I think I am different and one is not supposed to say this in these times. But that is what I want. If I am honest to what is true to me. They could not accept this. They were determined to change my mind before I exit the office. I got kind of scared and realized ok, well I am not going to talk about THIS anymore... Gabor Mate, one of my favorite academics has found as well as Richard D. Wolff, an economist, that women in getting into the work force has been a factor to deteriorate the family structures, increase the expenses and have children being raised with less care and energy, obiviusly. YET I AM NO WAY SAYING WOWEM SHOULD NOT WORK BUT BE STAY-AT-HOME-MOTHERS. It's complex. Most importantly the deep psychological damage of day cares, abandonment trauma and the natural need for kids to associate with their own tribe members, not some people to whom you are an object of profession. It is unnatural and you see this in the mental health issues of adults in the west. All this goes under the great name of progress. I was raised by a CEO academic mother. Her career but mostly her personality disorder and need to be like a man destroyed our whole family. Dad was subserviant which destroyed in return his self-esteem. The first official stay at home dad in the region. Great! Or not..? I see many aspects in this, my family dysfunction is not a simple formula. Yet, children get trampled. Take the equal education here: my brother with ADHD and well above average IQ. No one rises above in the Finnish education system. ALL SHOULD BE THE SAME. So this boy was forced to be inadequitly mentally stimulated because all get the same treatment. He ended up in crime and addiction. To be challenged at least somehow. Smart people suffer from lack of mental stimulation. Result is suffering (family abuse by the stressed, in my opinion crazy but smart mother, obiviusly plays a role here too). I am saying treating all as similar creates pain and is short-sighted. Like forcing a panda to eat worms instead of bamboo. Their nature is against that. Cannot do that without dysfunction. I LOVE to learn, be mentally challenged and I am also a woman. And I want to be a stay-at-home mother and not be demeaned cause of that. It actually makes sense if the community around is healthy. This level-headed, unisex approach is ridiculous, even harmful. Question, question.

This is SUCH helpful advice. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and I gained 50lbs. Obviously I wanted to loose all of that right off the bat and kept struggling. But now I’ve set my goal at 5lbs at a time. And I’ve lost 20 so far when I set the bar lower! I also want to own my own salon but I knew I couldn’t do that right away. So I went out independently and rented a booth. Now I have a clientele. Now I’m looking into entrepreneurial corses. And slowly building my credit score. Baby steps. 🙌🏻🙌🏻

I completely agree with Joe. Jordan is completely misrepresented by the left. I am a moderate liberal and don't find any of his views offensive. He is just spreading knowledge that has been lost on the last two generations. He is changing this world for the better and giving people their lives back. I climbed out of a deep dark hole of post partum depression following his lectures and ideas. I am so thankful for his knowledge! Thank you Jordan for continuing on your mission to help others with your knowledge despite people trying to defame and delegitamize you ❤️💪

+Knuckles Da Echidna Not that they are "secretly Christian" as if they are just pretending to be atheist. He means subconsciously, athiests still base their moral framework on a foundation that was established by western Christian theology and the teachings of Christ. You make it sound as if he is suggesting that atheists are all closeted Christians which is not the case. They just tend to have a very simplistic and juvenile understanding of Christian ideas and their cultural significance, as though it only goes as deep as their grandmothers conception of some bearded man in the sky.

Brianna Larson - to believe that Christian theology is the underpinning of everyone's morality is to believe a moral man didn't exist before Christianity. Explain Aristotle. Explain the moral Chinese atheist. Also, much of Christian belief is itself derived from earlier religious mythology, so where exactly does the heredity of the atheist moral system begin?

There's not much to misinterpret, and when he gets called out on for his more incendiary views (that women should basically be forced to have sex with incel men) he just claims he's being misinterpreted. It's a common defense for pop intellectuals, claim you are being misinterpreted and that your musings are just so intellectual that nobody but your super-smart fans can understand it. I'ts a way of both sidestepping the opposing points and flattering your fans and keeping them on your side, Sam Harris does this too. I'm glad you are in a better place in your life, but I don't think people on the left are misinterpreting Peterson. He gives common sense lifestyle advice (clean your room) and intersperses his own right-wing ideology and talking points (maintaining hetero-sexual norms is imperative for society). You don't need to support patriarchal hierarchy to be able to better yourself. extra reading - www.currentaffairs.org/2018/03/the-intellectual-we-deserve

Cody Davies - While you make some valid points with his "common sense lifestyle advice" and he does have some right leaning ideology that does come out in some of his views/actions I think you are COMPLETELY wrong about your first sentence. If you actually read the articles or heard the discussions you would see that Jordan was not in favor of..."that women should basically be forced to have sex with incel men." If it wasn't for that statement I would of held you statement in higher regard. If you actually think that Jordan proposes "that women should basically be forced to have sex with incel men" please find me the article/interview where Jordan said that with ALL RELATIVE CONTEXT. Not your selected media site version. If I said to to my wife "I want to beat my wife in a game of tag" and the only thing you quote from it is "I want to beat my wife" then you are MISINTERPRETING what I said. I have read part of the "extra reading" you decided to post and there are several spots in there where again, the author decided to "edit" and misrepresent what Jordan is saying. I will continue to try to read the biased "extra reading" to hopefully find some actual valid arguments but so far it just seems like this author is complaining that everyone who likes Jordan Peterson has "lost it's damn mind" and that he is a fraud.

@Down with Corporate Amerika No thank you. When someone presents an entirely one-sided opinion, rather than a balanced opinion, it's pointless to ask them why. As to the so-called 'not very well educated' persons out there, so says you (and how would you personally know who and how many of those who like him should be categorized as 'most'?). It's fair to suggest too that there are limitations to education given that it's focused on one particular field of study. Intelligence is subjective, just like opinions. Be thankful. He's a bit of a shit head - there are those who are disabled, cognitively impaired - etc. that he talks about in such a fucked up way, even if they get motivated but then nothing improves in their life (because they literally don't have their own life's determination in their own hands.) It then makes them feel like they're even more broken and it literally has lead to suicides, on record. That's about my only issue with him personally, Joe pointed it out by asking him why he was being so extreme in his description of those who need his book, then moved on after he said it was because "it has to work in every situation." Which is just sheer bullshit. Someone with the IQ of a smart 4 year old can't master their own life, and it's fucking horrendously sad, but true. Now as for his politics and shit, I'm all good for his dismissal of the social left; who aren't FDR/New Deal Democrats who were a big tent party - instead they believe fixing gay and black issues is the only focus that the party is "supposed" to tackle. Instead of New Deal Democratic issues like tackling issues like low wage growth; Raising the extremely, historically low minimum wage; Cut taxes on independent contractors by up-to half; Taxing and regulating Wallstreet transactions, (tax 1% of all sales & purchases of financial instruments, including stock "flash trading" (Would eliminate it!) and heavily taxing stock buy-backs, and the LAW'S ALREADY ON THE BOOKS!), Etc, Etc. I'm against the fact that he doesn't spread those good ideas and he also seems to have a thumb up his ass for the far left, but only uses the right wing in the theoretical sense - when the Republican party has gone FAR, FAR RIGHT over the past 60 years, where as the Democratic party has had the same platform since FDR died! Go listen to FDR's last State of the Union! He was discussing universal healthcare and universal college IN 1945!! The left hasn't moved further left except socially - it just seems so because the right has gone so incredibly far to the right under Reagan, which pulled the Democratic party to the right under Clinton & Obama. The fact he leaves the fascist nature of the current right wing out of his show is just a crock of shit. I know he's pandering to his base - but it's just plain fucked up.
