Fantastic sounding box set at a cheap price compared to other stuff out there, except vinyl 8 abbey rd / let it be sounds flat and dull. I needed to hunt down other copies of these. The eas series let it be Japanese sounds fantastic. And was good price. But the rest of this box set 1-7 is very very good sounding with some alternative versions of songs.

I am very very very happy because I recently bought this box set The Beatles from Liverpool on Amazon even though I had to be $162 or so and a $27 fee I thought well it’s the Beatles I’m gonna get it anyway because of all the rare mixes. it took a few weeks for it to be delivered to my house from August 30 the day that I ordered it and it didn’t arrive until September 11 when I got home from work at Arby’s I was really excited I opened up the box that actually the next day on the 12th and the box that is in pretty good condition. The LPs are great I can’t wait to listen to them.

It is a box set worth getting your hands on, there are so many alternate mixes from around the world on here to enjoy. I have spent hours and hours listening to these records and enjoy them immensely. We owe a great debt of thanks to Simon Sinclair at EMI for compiling these albums in the first place. My copy is the early release with the reverse picture on LP No 2, but I have since got hold of another copy. And as you say Andrew you can pick them up fairly cheaply. (got my latest copy for £70 off ebay) I may look to invest in the cassette copy (never really bothered with it at the time) Many thanks for this interesting and informative video, really enjoyed it.

Funny thing, seeing these writeups on this compilation… I was in a local record store and happened to see a copy of this for sale (at US $125.00, which was a bit pricey but not all that bad) which I did purchase. Mine is a Japanese pressing with the Obi on the box (and much of the notes written in Kanji, which I don’t read). The LPs are dead quiet (other than the tracks of course) and is an excellent addition to my collection.

The sound & the presentation are stunning & had mine on just the other day which will be going back on later!! It would be great if you did a video on the Beatles/Solo stuff you haven't picked up as yet but hope to do so in the future Andrew as it would be fascinating to see ? Thanks for another great video.

Hello! Great videos! Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but, you mention mixes which weren't available in the UK in 1980? 1. Even though it was long out of print, the Ringo drumming version of "Love Me Do" was released first in the UK in 1962. Finding a copy? Yes. Hard, but still UK. 2. The fake stereo "PS I Love You" was available on the the UK stereo pressing of the "Please Please Me" LP. 3. The dedicated mono mix of "Thank You Girl" without the harmonica was on the UK 45 plus the 1979 UK compilation "Rarities" 4. The fake stereo mix of "She Loves You" was also released in the UK on the 1973 compilation LP "1962-1966" (red album). 5. The dedicated mono mix of "This Boy was available on the UK 45 plus the 1979 UK compilation "Rarities". 6. The true stereo mixes of "Long Tall Sally", "Matchbox" and "Slow Down" were released in the UK on the 1976 compilation "Rock 'n' Roll Music" (UK didn't use the upgraded George Martin mix). 7. The whispering version of "I Feel Fine" was available in the UK on the 1973 compilation LP "1962-1966" (red album). 8. True stereo version of "I'm Down" was available in the UK on the 1976 compilation LP "Rock 'n' Roll Music" (UK didn't use the upgraded George Martin mix). 9. The true stereo "And Your Bird Can Sing" is included on the UK stereo pressing of "Revolver". Supposedly, the US mix is an earlier attempt, but it's unconfirmed but probably not true. 10. If the mix of "Across The Universe" is mono, it has to be a fold down. Either way, only the strings are in stereo anyway. US: 1. "I'm Only Sleeping" delayed guitar solo is the the alternate true stereo mix which also appeared on the Longines Record club and later stereo pressings of "Yesterday...And Today".

Great informative video as usual. I used to own this box set which sadly got lost when my cellar was flooded about 10 years ago. As with all compilations I didn't agree 100% with the selection of tracks as a number of personal favorites were missing (e.g. Mister Moonlight, All Together Now, Piggies and Don't Pass Me where included while Tomorrow Never Knows, Blackbird, Old Brown Shoe, I Want You a.o. were left out). But the sound quality was excellent and I was surprised to notice that it contained many rare mixes/versions.

Interesting video Andrew. I have 3 Australian copies of this set. Each has a different label variation. 2 of them respectively have orange/black and black/silver boxed labels from 1980/81, with the latter coming in 'clamshell' boxes (hinged lid on the box) with a bonus poster. This was the first copy I bought in a record store. I only found the orange label version a year or so ago. The 3rd version, from 1982, has the red/black Reader's Digest label and this box has an inner tray with an outer sleeve. The borders on the rear sleeves of The LP's have different designs between the Parlophone & RD sets. I did think it odd that whoever designed the sleeves didn't organise them properly as the front pictures on half of them don't match the era of the recordings for that particular volume. If you look again I think you'll understand what I mean. It's a great set though all the same. Cheers Andrew.

Great collection. I got the Australian orange parlophone LP set in the mid ‘80s. I also have the Flexi-promo disc, but no idea where I got that or how much I paid for it now. I do remember buying the box set primarily for Your Mother Should Know because the Beatles Collection boxes of the time didn’t include the MMT album. On my version While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Piggies and Don’t Pass Me By are incorrectly credited to Lennon-McCartney on the cover, but not the LP label. Not sure if this was a uniquely Australian error??

Andrew, I bought the LP set at a record show (here in the US) and I was so surprised to come across it! The Penny Lane version with the picolo trumpet at the end was originally issued on promo copies of the Penny Lane single, the picolo notes were edited on the end and wasn't part the original recording. At least they put the Let It Be songs before the Abbey Road recordings since they were recorded before Abbey Road unlike the The Beatles/1967-1970 issue. Our single version of I Am the Walrus has the extra beats. The extended guitar riff on the track And I Love Her was only available on the German version of "Something New".
