Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel ALWAYS emphasizes, that Jesus Christ is the one and only God revealed in the flesh! The mother of John the Baptist, Elizabeth, said to Mary of Nazareth: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Who am I that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, the moment I heard your greeting, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. And blessed is she who believed that what was spoken to her by the Lord would be fulfilled." (Luke 1:42-45) And Mary herself: "... Behold, from now on all Generations will call me blessed, for he who is Mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name." (Luke 1:48-49) In every true appearance of Mother Mary, it always is said, that she is only the maid of God and mother of the non corrupt human nature of Jesus Christ, coming for reversal, repentance, penance and worship of the Father of Jesus Christ, NOTHING else!

@@alphainka I'm not a dude, I'm a woman. Yes Jesus said to pray to the Father in His name which we do, but that does not exclude the intercession of the Saints nor does it make the Saints equal to God. if we shouldn’t ask Mary who is in heaven, because Jesus is everywhere, why would we ask anyone here on earth to pray for us, if we can pray directly to Jesus, who is omnipresent? Some will cite 1 Timothy 2:5 to argue against praying to Mary and the other saints, but that understanding of Jesus’ one mediatorship would necessarily exclude asking others here on earth to pray for us. There’s no competition when we ask someone to pray for us, including petitioning Mary and the saints, because they are collaborators with God, not competitors. Indeed, apart from Jesus they (and we praying for each other on earth) could do nothing (John 15:1-5). And so we are members of the mystical body of Christ and thus have-or should have-concern for the spiritual well-being of others (1 Cor. 12:25-26). In addition, St. James says the prayer of a righteous man on earth avails much with God (Jas. 5:16-18). So how much more would prayers from one who has finished the race and now reigns with Christ in heaven? And that would include not only the Blessed Mother, but also St. Paul, who demonstrated great concern for the faithful while he lived on earth (Rom. 10:1). Does it make any sense that Paul would care less for our spiritual well-being having attained heaven? (see Heb. 12:1, 23). Little wonder, then, that the elders in heaven bring the prayers of the saints here on earth to God’s heavenly throne, thereby performing an undeniable intercessory prayer (Rev. 5:8). Finally, St. Paul thanks the Corinthians for their intercessory prayers, because God grants blessings “in answer to many prayers” (2 Cor. 1:11). And, again, if we can intercede for each other on earth in such a fruitful way, how much more the saints in heaven?

Not mother of God. God doesn't have a mother. It is mother of the Jesus, who became man. Just because she bore the Lord, she doesn't have any special privileges. She was also a sinner like us and needed forgiveness that Jesus offers. Respecting her is not an issue. But people make her equal to God and a mediator. that is the problem.

I'm sorry, but this is wrong. Where in the Bible does it say we confess our sins to another man? Where does it say that you must be installed by clergy to be called a saint? Paul in the New Testament called fellow Christians everywhere "saints". When Jesus's apostles asked how they should pray, I don't remember him saying "Hail Mary". It was "Our Father, who art in heaven". And where in the Bible does it say we should pray to saints? Jesus clearly stated in John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me". Not Mary, not the saints, not the pope. I say this out of love, no other reason.
@dentryn43652 ай бұрын
The verse that describes confessing our sins to a man -Jesus breathing on his disciples and saying, "Receive the Holy Spirit" is John 20:22: John 20:22: "And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit'" The verse continues in John 20:23, "Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained". In this passage, Jesus gives the Holy Spirit to his disciples after giving it to the women and the beloved disciple at the foot of the cross. Jesus also assigns the apostles and their successors the ministry of forgiving sins in his name. This is what a Priest does today because they are successors of the Apostles. Yes we are all Saints, but the Saints in Heaven have finished the race. The practice of honoring saints has its origins in the Jewish tradition of honoring prophets and holy people with shrines. The first saints were martyrs who gave up their lives for the faith. Catholics believe that saints are in a privileged place with God in heaven and can add their prayers to those offered by Christians on earth. The most important way to honor the Saints is to imitate them in their relationship with God. The book of Revelation shows the saints worshipping God, singing hymns, playing instruments, making requests to Christ to avenge their martyrdom, and offering prayers for the saints on earth (Rev. 4:10, 5:8, 6:9-11). The Hail Mary is taken from the bible. The first half is the angel Gabriel's greeting to Mary and the second half "Holy Mary, Mother of God" pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death because Mary is Holy, she is the Mother of God and she can pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

@connor-bj6ku the problem is that this term, the mother of God is different from the mother of our lord. One is uttered only once in the gospel by Elizabeth, the other one is made up. I believe the Catholic understanding and non Catholic is very different. You ascribe to Mary something she would never want for herself.
@crucified_to_the_world2 ай бұрын
@@alphainka "the mother of God is different from the mother of our lord." How? Is Our Lord not our God? And it isn't one verse, it is the whole of the story of the virgin birth, the Nativity etc., Jesus Christ is God and Mary is his mother. My theology is based on the traditional, Christian understanding of the Incarnation - which logically entails that Mary is the Mother of God. And "this term" - Mother of God - is the term used by the entire Christian tradition to describe Mary. You may break with that tradition - but the burden is on you to explain why you know better than the councils, the Creed and the Church Fathers (and even the Protestant Reformers) This; "Mary didn't produce or create Jesus' spirit. Only his body" is exactly what I mean by saying denying Mary is the mother of God is denying the Incarnation. To separate Jesus' divine nature and his human nature is a heresy, called Nestorianism. He was a hypostatic union of the two in one person, from the moment of conception (when the Word became flesh, because that's when people 'become flesh'). The Word didn't become flesh if it's only his spiritual nature that is God, not his bodily nature as well "I believe the Catholic understanding and non Catholic is very different" All of the Protestant Reformers affirm that Mary was the Mother of God - just as the whole Christian tradition, through the councils, the Creed and the writings of the Church Fathers do. This isn't Catholic/non-Catholic - it is Christian or non-Christian, as a dispute "You ascribe to Mary something she would never want for herself" I'm afraid not - that's what you are doing. Mary understood herself to be the Mother of God (if it was so serious an offence to call her the Mother of God, do you not think she would have rebuked Elizabeth for doing so?) If you mean "worship" - no one worships Mary, so we don't ascribe that to her (and she would not want to be worshipped)

Look what Saint Paul wrote in Galatians 4 : 4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 24 Now this may be interpreted allegorically: these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar. 25 Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. Paul does not exalt Mother Mary when he talks about Jesus ; he just addresses her as "woman." And in the SAME CHAPTER, Paul greatly exalts the holy city Jerusalem, calling it "She is our mother." The level of exaltation of Mother Mary is NOT found in the Bible and in the early churches. Nor the MANDATORY Catholic beliefs like Mary was born of virgin woman, lived her whole life as virgin, and ascended to heaven and etc. Saint Paul taks about a lot of things. He never once even mentioned the Mother of Christ, and when he mentioned, he called her "a woman" when he could exalt another woman figure as "Our Mother." Do you call Joseph a "Stepfather of God?" or David an "Ancestor of God?" If you do not, why are you so obsessed with calling Mary a Mother of God? Jesus Christ's divinity is shown fully enough without adding non-canonical stuff about Mother Mary. She is a blessed woman, a sister in Christ, did her job and loved by God like the first apostles. Don't you understand your obsession about Mother Mary is weird when there is Joseph, David, etc? Why did it happen? The holy mother figure appears in almost every single one of Greek/Roman/Egyptian pagan religions and it has roots in them! No Jewish tradition or religion ever contains it! It derives from a pagan religion, and that's why Roman Catholic moved toward that way! Because it was influenced heavily by the Rome! Doesn't the bible talk about Jesus' brother multiple times? And the only source of the claim that they were relatives come from Roman Catholic? Why do you HAVE to believe that Mother Mary lived her whole life as a virgin and ascended to heaven alive? Where does it say that? and Why the belief of that tale is required to BELIEVE IN JESUS AND SAVED?????

Nope. So Mary’s sin offering was for ritual uncleanness, and for the Jews in the time of Christ, uncleanness was not the same as sinfulness. That is obvious based on the terminology utilized in Leviticus 4-5 versus Leviticus 11-15. If Mary had followed the sin offering from Leviticus 4-5 instead of Leviticus 11-15, then Protestants would have an argument. But she didn’t.
@rahulrajoria75352 ай бұрын
@dentryn4365 Your interpretation of these verses is not accurate. First of all. It was not Mary's sin offering. It was God The Father and the Holy Spirit. Second if anyone is used by God, It does not glorify that person, it Glorifies God. Read Matthew 12:48-50. Anyone who does the will of my Father in Heaven is my brother, sister and mother.
@dentryn43652 ай бұрын
@@rahulrajoria7535 No sir. The early Church, the Church fathers and even Protestant L. Michael Morales’s Commentary on Leviticus says, “Moral impurity should be distinguished from ritual impurity. Ritual impurity is impermanent . . . while requiring cleansing, [it] does not require forgiveness (cf. Hayes 2006: 746, 748-749)” (p. 159). Morales’s point is that Leviticus 12 is talking about an ancient, temporary state of ritual impurity-not a permanent state of sinfulness. So the offering of two pigeons was not for healing a sinful relationship with God. Even one of the founders of Protestantism, Martin Luther, recognized that Mary’s sin offering did not entail her personal sinfulness. In his famous pamphlet “The Freedom of a Christian,” he pointed to the example of Mary as a model for Christians to do good works out of love, rather than out of necessity or to be justified. He pointed to Mary because she offered a sin offering even though she “did not need to be purified” (p. 52). Mary obeyed the law out of “free and willing love,” even though “she was not bound by that law.” So, for Luther, Mary’s sin offering was not an indication of her moral imperfection.
@dentryn43652 ай бұрын
@@rahulrajoria7535Disagree. Catholics, Oriental Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox, and high church Lutherans believe that Mary was Immaculately conceived, meaning she was born without sin and lived a sinless life. Martin Luther maintained belief in Mary's lifelong sinlessness. CHURCH FATHERS: A few examples Ephraim the Syrian “You alone and your Mother are more beautiful than any others, for there is no blemish in you nor any stains upon your Mother. Who of my children can compare in beauty to these?” (Nisibene Hymns 27:8 [A.D. 361]). Ambrose of Milan “Mary’s life should be for you a pictorial image of virginity. Her life is like a mirror reflecting the face of chastity and the form of virtue. Therein you may find a model for your own life . . . showing what to improve, what to imitate, what to hold fast to” (The Virgins 2:2:6 [A.D. 377]). Augustine “That one woman is both mother and virgin, not in spirit only but even in body. In spirit she is mother, not of our head, who is our Savior himself-of whom all, even she herself, are rightly called children of the bridegroom-but plainly she is the mother of us who are his members, because by love she has cooperated so that the faithful, who are the members of that head, might be born in the Church. In body, indeed, she is the Mother of that very head” (Holy Virginity 6:6 [A.D. 401]).
@dentryn43652 ай бұрын
@@rahulrajoria7535 These are not my interpretations and furthermore they are not inaccurate. You missed the point. Mary's offering was not for personal sin. Furthermore The phrase "full of grace" means filled with God's presence and there's no room for sin. The angel Gabriel proclaimed this to Mary at the Annunciation in Luke 1. Gabriel’s salutation, “Hail, full of grace,” (kaire, kecharitomene, Greek) is not an ordinary greeting. The angel doesn’t call Mary by her given name (Miryam), but instead gives her a new name or title: “full of grace.” The renaming of Mary also conveys how names communicate something that is permanent about the character of the one named (Abram changed to Abraham-Gen. 17:5, l5; Jacob changed to Israel-Gen. 32:28). To understand the significance of this name change and how it points to Mary being conceived without sin, we look to the Greek word kecharitomene (“full of grace”), a perfect passive participle, coming from the root word charitoo, or grace, meaning “to fill or endow with grace.” It denotes an action having taken place in the past, before the announcement of the angel, and one that continues throughout her existence. Understood in this way, the words of the angel “full of grace” (free from all stain of original and actual sin) extend to the moment of Mary’s conception and throughout her earthly life.

Pour on us a little bit of your soul? 🤔🤔🤔 The Bible says that after Jesus left he sent the holy spirit to dwell in us. The holy spirit is God. That's the spirit that you must be asking for. Also, you're talking to a woman who is dead. What do you call the communication to the dead? Necromancy! You're practicing necromancy if you're communicating, talking, or asking anything to the dead for your personal gain.
@dentryn43652 ай бұрын
@@Inefprag In the time of Christ (as well as the time of Moses), the Father was still the God of Jewish heroes like Abraham, who had died centuries earlier. To write off saints like them as being “dead” ignores the fact that, by virtue of their heavenly union with Christ, they are more alive than they were on earth. The Bible does teach that the saints are alive. Consider, for example, that Jesus teaches that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is “not God not of the dead, but of the living” (Matt. 22:32; see also 22:23-33). In addition, Moses and Elijah are alive to Jesus at the Transfiguration and converse with him, even though their earthly deaths had occurred many years before (see Matt. 17:1-8). Asking the saints for intercession is not necromancy. Necromancy is an attempt to gain information by conjuring the dead. The term is derived from the Greek words nekros (“dead person”) and manteia (“oracle, divination”).

I am a catholic and I fully agree with the Bishop. He doesn't say we should worship Mother Mary as equal to God. He explains that Mother Mary is mother of God and the word "worship" in English when it relates to her means " veneration" /utmost respect and when it relates to God, he alone is worshipped and adored as God. Moreover we never pray to her for her intercession, in isolation but always with Jesus and the most Holy Trinity. When God himself has entrusted his Son to her for accomplishing our redemption, we need to perceive her uniqueness. She can also mould us as Jesus and acceptable to God.

Apostles were Protestants, they protested against the enemies of truth of their time, the Jews. Catholicism was born after Constantine was falsely converted to Christianity, that’s why it’s called Roman Catholicism. Paul prophesied this very clearly. Referring to the Papacy, he said, “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God” - 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4. The man of sin, the son of perdition who has dared to take the place of God is the Papacy. Just as the apostles protested against the Jews, the Protestants now have to protest against the Papacy. Mary is a sinner like anyone else, because it says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” - Romans 3:23. Which means even she needs forgiveness from Christ, if she herself needs forgiveness, how can she intercede for me. And lastly, Mary is dead and is in her grave, but she awaits the Lord’s return. And it will be then she will be shocked to see how Satan has deceived this world in her name. Abraham was blessed, David was blessed, Apostles were blessed, hence we honour them as spiritual heroes, and it’s only in that sense we honour Mary. Period.

Besides St. Stephen, She was the only one said to be Full of Grace. The Apostles were not Protestants. Also, Catholicism was not born after Constantine. In 107 A.D., St. Ignatius of Antioch gave the Church it's name (Catholic). Mary is not dead and has taken her rightful place in Heaven just as the other Saints did. As far as the Papacy, God gave Peter the keys to the kingdom. He was succeeded by Linus then Anacletus. There is record of 266 Popes to the Pope today.

If a believer or Christian must practice something, there must be an example of it in scriptures and it must be premised on the prophets, Apostles and Christ who is the cornerstone - Ephesians 2:20. That said, since the prophets and apostles to which Ephesians 2 is referring does not include any Believers today, whatever they say that does not agree with scriptures should be discarded. Issues about marriage for example was brought to rest by Jesus Christ when he referred the Pharisees to the very beginning in Matthew 19. Now, about Mary, can anyone show one passage in the Acts of the Apostles that supports this practice. Remember that Acts of the Apostles gives us the picture of the very beginning of the church and their practices. If no one can, then whatever any preacher says about this is fallacy, it doesn't matter the position of the person or how he is addressed.
