Thank you for being woke 👊🏾 Not a lot of youtubers are speaking about this issue, so I'm glad that you are. Anyway, Story time: I'm a nail artist on ig and I was swatching polish and put black lives matter in my caption. The indie maker who made said polish reposted my photo and took out my entire caption that included black lives matter at the end of it. And when I confronted her about it she acted like she did nothing wrong. 🙄 So the next time I see someone who says 'all lives matter' I'm going to show them this video. So I won't have to waste my time arguing with them

The moment when the world has to discuss or debate whose lives matter the most, it shows how regressed our society has been. If the world shows compassion, non-discrimination and equal to all, we wouldn't have reach this pensive stage of life.
@diresalope8 жыл бұрын
Well, not exactly. I like the utopia you're going for but it's not that simple! No one is saying that Black lives matter *more*, we're just saying that they MATTER. That it's not okay to murder, torture and maim Black people without consequences (seriously, Google the officers who killed any of the most notable names over the past couple of years and see how many of them faced criminal charges, jail, etc...) The attitude of "colour blindness", or "equality" for all overlooks that each cultural and racial group in North America has a different history ; we all ended up here for different reasons and under different circumstances and were/are treated differently by White America at various stages in our histories here. It's like expecting gender equality without understanding that while men and women can accomplish the same things we may need slightly different tools to get there. I *wish* it was a simple as respecting one another but sadly racial inequalities built this country and has solidified centuries worth of differences, mistrust, poverty, miss-education and a whole slew of other nastiness that can on;y be fixed with open dialogue/government policy and a commitment to an improved future.

+rsss I agree what you have to say. But if you look at a critical lens of angle, all of these lie within the fundamental upbringing of moral senses in our society. Everything has to back to basic to understand each other, in fact this is the foundation we are looking for growing up to this world. Unfortunately, political agenda and certain religions these days have misshapen the world to believe that one particular group (race/ orientation/ social status) has a higher form of social hierarchy over the others which, by right shouldn't be the case. I just could not stand how ignorant people can be to have such attitude thinking discrimination is a "ok" things to do. It does not revolve only black lives, matter of fact, it happens to a lot of groups, for instance.. Indigenous lives, poverty group, LGBTQ+ group and groups that have been discriminated long time to ago. That's why as for me, instead of saying whose lives matter, I'd prefer to say "Stop discriminations and be less ignorant"
@wintersyixx8 жыл бұрын
+TheNotAdam Very true. We may have opinions but the underlying solution is to do something to improve in this circumstances. What do you guys think of Egalitarianism vs Feminism? Do you think it's comparable to All Lives Matter vs Black Lives Matter?
@logictruth18 жыл бұрын
not necessarilly. they essentially COULD mean the same thing just like blm and alm BUT and thats a big BUT you have to look at what they represent from the supporters perspective. As I understood egalitarianism is the new term for feminism after the term feminism has gained negative stigma due to its more extreme members. An Egalitarian is essentially one who wants equality for everyone and not just for a specific group. This in turn means two things. He is less likely to be biased towards one side or the other because he doesn't concentrate on just one. But he is also less likely to participate in activism which in turn means he is less likely to help bring change about. I personally am just speculating because I have no personal experience with either side and don't really care either way so don't quote me on this. But like I said one thing you should take away is this: Judge a movement/ideology by the people instead of whats written on paper because the people are the ones having an impact, not their theory...

It's not something that applies to just "Black" lives. I've seen people that are darker than some Black people but they are not Black so we should stop saying Black as if it was a race. It's kinda like when people use the word feminism and say it's for equality and then forget that men are three times more likely to commit suicide and that the wage gap doesn't say that a woman is getting paid less in a specific job, it's just that they tend to have different jobs. Focusing only on African Americans or other colored people is pretty dumb. I'm Latino, or brown since we have to use colors, and I hate it when White people are thought as racists if they don't do something with Black lives matter. Does nobody remember Anastacio Hernandez Rojas?
@misternightstar8 жыл бұрын
I feel like you either didn't watch the whole video or just didn't understand it. He pretty clearly states that all people deserve to be treated well, and then goes on to explain exactly how some are often not. What you've listed here are oft-repeated talking points designed to redirect our attention from the flaw in the system that favors a certain class of people. Namely rich, white, straight, christian males. If you're any of those, you've likely benefited from it many times in life, though you may not realize it, as we tend to have blindspots when it comes to privileges we've rarely had to live without. Yet some of us do it every day.
@RJLiams8 жыл бұрын
+Misternightstar So why is it that white people are killed by police more than black people if the system specifically targets black people?
@misternightstar8 жыл бұрын
Ricky Williams This is exactly one of those talking points I mentioned. There's more white people in the country, because they're the majority, so it shouldn't shock anyone that more are shot in terms of numbers, but that's not how you measure this. You go by percentages of each group, and the black community has an overwhelmingly larger percentage of its people victimized than whites. See, repeating "facts" like the one you just did is part of the problem. Because it convinces people that there isn't one when there clearly is. It's like walking outside and saying "We all know the sky is red" and hoping no one actually looks up. Sadly, some people don't.
@deathman16878 жыл бұрын
+misternightstar Saying some hashtag over and over again isn't going to help. I have dark skinned cousins and they are Latinos and they agree that it should be all lives matter because they are not African American but they have been affected because they have dark skin. So just because they have dark skin that is darker or equally as dark as many African Americans doesn't mean they should be called black or be represented as black we are all people that should be equal and it shouldn't have to be seen as "let's make these people less powerful" or "let's makes these people more powerful" it's should be that people are equal and make people smarter instead of dumber by swinging some stupid hashtag around on the internet when a lot of the government don't focus on trending hashtags on Twitter.

I saw a post on tumblr that said "what if white people used to phrase all lives matter as a way to promote why we need to protect black lives" or something like that and I thought that was so important. It just intertwines with the fact that we need BLM because they matter just as much as all other lives. Also, RJ, that tank top looked fantastic and you could legitimately rock long hair.
@Ken06048 жыл бұрын
RJ the reason these people are being shot is because they are not doing what the officers tell them to do. Police have a very hard job to do and that is to protect everyone from danger. It's real simple if you follow directions from the officer do what he says then things will go better for you. Even if you have done nothing wrong do what they tell you. It can be worked out at the station or in court. You will not win if you fight the police. They will hurt you if you try to fight them or worse kill you. But lets take a look at the black men that have been shot. They have criminal records and are not model citizens. There are some really nice black people out there that never have a problem with the police. One is because they are not hanging out in high crime areas. They go to work and do just like everyone else does. I have worked in corrections the last 10 years and have come across some of the nicest black men around. They made a mistake and are doing their time. Then there are others that can't even stay out of trouble while they are locked up. They get people to try to bring drugs in all the time. The media tries to focus on the black men as being victims. If they can get black people pissed off they know they will act a fool. This gets them more ratings because not only do they have a story of the shooting now there are black people killing cops and other people. All people should put forth an effort to do better in life.
@kenzay89838 жыл бұрын
But do cops HAVE TO shoot AND KILL the people? the could just inable them to move or anything besides murder.
@Ken06048 жыл бұрын
They are trained to shot to kill. You don't understand these men are not people you want in your area. They are trying to kill the officer to get away. If you ever get a chance go to a maximum prison and meet some of these people. They have no problem raping you, robbing you or even killing you. They will kill your whole family if the mood strikes. They are gangsters who have nothing to live for. Most are drug dealers and users. I have worked in corrections for more then 10 years. Most of my time was spent dealing with inmates that are locked up 23 hours a day because they don't play nice with others.

Well, I guess Black lives matter suggests that it's all about race and i can see how that's not the healthiest way/tactic to address the problem and only leads to further escalation. While it may be an underlying problem it suggests that police is full of racists and that's probably unfair. Psychologically if you are accused of something your first instinct is defense. So I don't see how that will change attitudes effectively. There are no discriminatory laws anymore so the whole issue requires a more nuanced approach in my opinion. I would define more general problems, like gun control, demilitarization of police, a diverse police force, poverty, justice system,... ,use my energy there and then hopefully the problem goes away. I can see why a more "in your face" approach to garner momentum is usefull as well though.

I found this very educational for why people say black lives matter but I do have to add, since you said to comment about another group of people who need support, the lives of police men and women matter to. Yes, they may not face constant discrimination like black people do, but as of late there has been a lot of senseless killing of police also. My interpretation of the "all lives matter" argument is that, both types of people involved, wether black or police, are being killed senselessly.
@TheNotAdam8 жыл бұрын
Okay, but when you break it down in terms of numbers, the number of civilians killed by police far surpasses the number of officers killed in the line of duty. Furthermore, becoming a police officer is voluntary, while being born a certain race is not. Finally, if someone kills, shoots, or so much as assaults a cop, they are arrested, tried, convicted, and receive a harsher sentence. Meanwhile, when the roles are reversed, the perpetrator sees no consequences other than paid vacation time. Yes, any loss of innocent life is tragic, and the good cops putting their lives on the line to protect others certainly deserve credit. But let's no sit here and pretend that these problems are of the same severity.

Thanks RJ for being such a good spokes person for this and other matters. Gringos down here in Mexico have over time tried to establish various Relief agencies, Dog Shelters, Homeless Shelters. You name it. At first, most go along pretty well, unless they become too successful. If they do, they challenge the local, established charities that are supported lavishly by the well to do and women of a certain age who have never worked a day in their lives. Said successful charity is then bombarded by these women or their surrogates in the required public meetings. They hijack the proceedings by exclaiming loudly: "What about the Children?" "How do you plan to support the Children?" Certainly perplexing for those wanting to establish a Dog Shelter, but damage is done. The dowagers have made it known that yours is NOT WORTHY and any one who is any one will withdraw support. Very frustrating. My friends now do not even raise money in Mexico to help with various pet projects. Avoids the whole mess.

I don't think you understand all lives matter With the ankle, it needs special attention because it affects a life and all lives matter, so everyone should get that special attention if need be. With the starving children, they need help because all lives matter, so everyone should be able to have that supply of food. With the animals, since all lives matter, all animals should have a loving home, so those who don't, need one. With the roofing, all roofs need to be fixed, those are broken should be repaired. With the mom, something directly effects your life, but because all lives matter and everyone should be happy, we should fix that. You have built this odd straw man that does not properly address what these people are saying. People are simply saying, hey if you do this you are redirecting any attention another problem and that is negatively affecting those that are at the brunt of that problem. No one is saying is not a real problem, just that you cannot say it is the problem.
@TheNotAdam8 жыл бұрын
You're invalidating your own argument. We give special attention to certain individuals when they have a specific need that needs to be met. And we're not just talking about a sprained ankle or a leaking roof. We're talking about innocent people being executed in the street without due process, and their killers never seeing so much as the inside of a jail cell. We're talking about racism on the institutional and societal level. We say "black lives matter" because all lives should matter the same, but they don't.

There are people that are racist and are bad people, but we cannot fix that. Someone who murders black people was gonna do it anyway. The movement takes from those who need the attention more. I'm sure you've heard of the pride parade incident with BLM, and how does taking attention away from one minority to give to another minority, how does that them better? Separate case to prove a further point.
@Romenadan8 жыл бұрын
All lives matter equally in ideality alone. Even though that ideal is held by most of society and laws (*to my knowledge there are no current laws which grant or restrict rights based on color of skin). The problem is that there is little to no accountability when institutions do not follow. The group that is currently facing the brunt of victimization in this is that of the african americans. Yeah, the name "BLM" could be taken to imply that "the rest of the lives don't matter as much" but that isn't the intent and isn't what's important. A better name would be "Black people are getting gunned down illegally and the murderers aren't facing punishment due to institutionalized racism" but you know what? No one has the attention span for that anymore, so they needed something more concise even at the cost of precision. Yes, self-identified BLM protesters came in and disrupted LGBT functions, yes that hurts the LGBT group and produces a negative image of the BLM movement. What you're missing here is that it was a few bad individuals, not the sanctioned focus of the BLM movement. You can't blame all BLM protesters just as you can't blame all cops. We can blame the institution itself behind the cops which allows the few bad cops to murder with impunity, and that is what the movement is about.

there are people who would rather say "all lives matter" than "black lives matter" not because they believe or think that it prioritizes one group or race. But rather that they have seen people use "black lives matter" to attack innocent people. I am of a mixed family and stand saying all lives matter and meaning no one's life should ever be valued less than you view your own life's worth. I see the saying black lives matter as a good cause that is being tainted by hate. I will never tell you that you should say all lives matter because we stand together for the same goal. the only thing that is different is how we say it. both sayings are tainted with people of hatred for another but I hold no hate for everyone without good reason. race, religion, and economic status doesn't mean anything worth my hatred. stay strong and one day hopefully all of this hate many of us face will just be a dark story in a history book.

John Denver because it’s pretty much saying you don’t agree with BLM, not because the message is bad, but because it was created to contradict Black Lives Matter. BLM is not about how black lives are the only lives that matter, its saying black lives are the lives that really need our help right now. Saying “All Lives Matter” in itself, yes is a good message. However, in this particular situation, it’s completely inappropriate, as it minimizes the struggles the black community is currently going through. Only when black history month, the NAACP, and the concept that every race should be represented will racism end. No one should get a month, a day or anything along those lines. As Morgan Freeman said "black history is American history". No one should be protected simply because of they're skin color, gender or any other difference amongst the people. We all live, we all go through shit, and we all die. Someone may have it worse but that doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. In the end we all live and die for each other. Not as a nation, not as an ethnic group, not as a gender, but as a species. The human race. And if no one agrees that's okay. We're human no one can agree on anything. And that's okay. So fighting over it solves nothing.

Another group out there that needs more love and support and attention: People with mental illnesses, particularly those of us who struggle with thoughts of suicide. Through circumstances all our own, many of us have been conditioned to believe that our lives do not matter. BLM is doing a wonderful thing for their community, but we need ours, as well.
@TheNotAdam8 жыл бұрын
Also police have a documented history of mistreating individuals and mishandling situations involving mental illness.
@Chaosdude71118 жыл бұрын
That's also true! Though, one does not need to be a victim of police brutality for them to see their lives as worthless. Telling suicidal people that their lives explicitly matter would go a long way towards talking many people down from the ledge, as it were.
@Chaosdude71118 жыл бұрын
Dominique Marsh I never said it was your job! BLM is doing a great thing, as I said. I just wish there was an equivalent movement for suicidal/mentally ill people, perhaps learning from what makes BLM work. Maybe it could be called #YourLifeMatters or something? I'm just spitballing.

I know this is a joke and a skit but I feel like it really potrays the *sensible* people who say "all lives matter" very badly. I hate "black lives matter" because you're making it seem like black lives are the only ones with problems. I heard something on the radio where a woman said "hopefully police will stop beating on black people" or something along those lines this made me angry because I thought to myself "how about they stop beating on ALL people who aren't criminals" It just sounds like you're making it all about you even though we know that's what you mean I am black by the way.

It's human nature to lean towards our lesser angels, the dark side. The dark side is easier, than stretching for the light. It can't be legislated away, voted away, it just won't go away. It takes a conscience effort each individual has to change it. When I was in school I was taught, an centuries old rule, the Golden Rule; "Do to others what you want them to do to you". Respect one another, do no harm to one another, but those ideas are gone these days. It's I have my rights, even if they infringe on your rights, I'm entitled.

Finally, someone says it. 👏 I appreciate this video so much. Black lives matter is a thing because there are reasons that black people have felt their lives don't. Shootings, racism, slavery, etc. There have been multiple things dealing with the black community that have made us have to fight for our rights and respect. So yes, all lives matter, but black lives matter is there to raise awareness and change the unreasonable things that happen to the black community.

I'm not entirely sure how to phrase what what I want to say, but I'll try and hopefully you'll get my point. The "black lives matter" movement is an important one in the U.S. This is currently an ongoing issue here. However, as someone who tries to stay apprised of global issues as well, I do not want to forget about the minority groups being oppressed and killed in other countries. I know saying "black lives matter" doesn't mean that for instance, Yazidis lives matter less; however, I would like to be sure to keep them in mind because they are experiencing a genocide in Syria. Would it be okay for me to carry around a sign saying Yazidis lives matter to bring awareness to that? Would it be appropriation of some kind to use the phrasing? I know it would be a problem to walk around with a sign saying Christian lives matter, despite the fact that they are being killed throughout the Middle East, because those issues aren't American ones and people would take it the wrong way. How do we bring awareness to these issues without offending anyone?

I don't comment often but I feel the need to comment here. The point of ALM is to point out that all lives don't matter but should. "Black Lives Matter" or other similar statements like "Blue lives matter" or any other specified movement will always otherize the groups its intending to "Educate." Thats why I personally say ALM. It shouldn't matter whether were black, white, blue, green, gay bi, or trans. That shouldn't be the point. The point is we all need to see each-other as HUMAN. The more you see colour the more it will become an issue. I grew up in the 90s, I didn't recognize gender, race, appearance etc until it was TAUGHT to me by a 6th grade teacher. Thats how the world needs to be. Stop propagating the separation, any movement that uses otherization as a tactic isn't a solution its a part of the overall problem.

Excuse me, I believe you are very mistaken about a couple of things. First, we don't misinterpret your "Black Lives Matter" signs and posts. We are fully aware that discrimination is indeed a very pressing matter and that it should be dealt with. However- when we say "all lives matter" we are not simply suggesting to drop the problem at hand or disregard it as a whole, but rather we are stating that lives of other forces being lost in the process of advocating such beliefs as BLM are just as important. Don't compare it to seeing it as selfish if you cry when your mother dies, it's really more like seeing it as selfish when you don't attend the funeral of your best friend's mother who died while being attacked by your mom's friend. Second, Black Lives Matter is becoming something that fewer and fewer people would ever want to support. As a group, their protests are far from "non- violent" or "peaceful". Protesters both risk and directly take lives of any who may dare to stand in their way. They are running on an engine of hostile protest, fueled by a common hate. It is very true that victims of discrimination have family and loved ones who mourn them, but the eye- for- an- eye- viewpoint of the protesters is simply rash and can only lead downhill. Whether you agree with me or not, the simple truth is that Black Lives Matter isn't advocating peace or equality, it's advocating hate for those who do you wrong, which will never lead to equality in the long run.

I think you should do a video about TransLivesMatter and focus on the trans community because 1 in 12 of us are murdered, 80% are denied health care, and we have less of a chance of getting jobs and more of a chance of being discriminated at in the workplace or being fired for being trans

I see your point, it is true that African American communities are in need of more opportunities. But sadly the lack of opportunity and years of past discrimination has created a culture in which illegal activity is a lifestyle and family life isn't important. Don't get me wrong there's some discrimination against black's, but the the Black Lives Matter organization has exploited this problem to fit their personal agenda and cause chaos and only worsen police and black relations.
