I dont think it's necessarily hate, just that the ethos of the channel has been lost slightly. The channel to many was a breath of fresh air from the expensive and lavish car scene all over youtube and showed that you could enjoy cars without spending 10s of 1,000s of pounds. It also seemed to reject the idea of the current attitude towards cars (at least in the uk) of "I need to finance a brand new SUV every 3 years", and showed that you could keep older, interesting cars on the road for a similar amount of money. I appreciate that Alex driving his baby around in an E30 isn't particularly safe and I wouldn't want to do it either. However, I think that the choice of car clashes with the vibe of rhe channel. There are cars that are cheaper and more practical. Instead, the porche seems to be just another small hatchback on stilts, with the owner giving poor justification to why they need it over the equivalent hatchback. Ultimately, it's Alex's daily driver that he needs to be suitable for a family. He's no longer in his late 20s and able to piss about with cheap shitboxes. If he feels this was his best choice then it doesn't really matter to anyone except him. I do however think that it's very naive to upload a video that essentially consists of a "I'm going to a dealers to buy a new flashy car for £30k" to an audience that expect the polar opposite. I also appreciate that Alex has a lot on his plate right now, and it's harder to do big scale content, but why not do a video on the 8 series he bought from Taylor? Even a video on Rory's Aston Martin? Taylor did a cracking video on his Alpina on the v2 channel, if it was slightly longer and fleshed out it could have been a great v1 video.

I drive from Hamburg to Dublin a few times a year to see family when I'm not in the mood to fly. During this journey I've noticed as you get to the UK roads get worse but as you leave the south of England and head further north or into wales they improve a lot. 30:36 Rory, you haven't noticed a difference in traffic because just as it's been proven time and time again that adding a lane doesn't relieve traffic (induced demand), removing a lane via a "road diet" does not increase traffic. When cities remove lanes to add traffic calming measures or protected bike lanes, a lot of people always complain and say it's going to make traffic worse when in reality the driving time over the distance doesn't really change.

A car guy can get whatever he likes but you have to admit SUVs are quite daft especially the weight lack of space and many other cars have much more space faster and safer , it's a rebadged wv Tiguan and its just for image , as for towing which is rare you lot are better off just investing in a recovery truck or engine swap anything cool that could tow I could never drive anything heavy my diesel fiesta was to front heavy and you can tell if your a car guy you can feel it in the corners I wouldn't be happy at all in something that's 2 tons for twice a year towing

Its not just because of the baby stop using that as an excuse. TDC coming along has really exposed how unimaginative and dull your videos have been recently. They've come and are doing what you used to do thats what people are missing. Taylor on the V2 channel is what your main channel used to be as well. thats what people subscribed for they didn't subscribe to 10 mins of talking the same rubbish about the same tired BMWs/MX5s and 10 mins installing BC racing coilovers you've milked it with those and its boring now. Where are all the challenges that have been forgotten about? Wheres the ferrari? wheres the classic cars? The trading up series was scrapped after 1 episode, the £500 bikes were forgotten about for 2 years. Wheres Phil? probably the most famous MX5 is rusting away in the corner completely forgotten about. As for the macan Its boring and we didn't need/want a video on it to be honest it just happens that that video was the one where people finally got vocal about their disappointment. You also bought it for your family but sold it to us like it was for the channel.

In Switzerland, we have "smart motorway" for years and it usually functions really well. Closing lane when there are broken down cars with no problem. It is mstly monitor through cameras. Although, there are SOS zone every few km that is a curve out of the main road.

I treated myself big time in the daily driver departement last week. I went from a 1997 ford fiesta flair, mostly in the colour green to a 2005 BMW 320D e46 touring in orient blue. Which is still a base model (with a few choice options). But MAN what a difference. I was all for the little 200 quid fezbox saving it as long as i could but this is just mindblowing what a world opened up for me.

Mine too died of rust. My mechanic said he could have welded it but wasn't comfortable with how unsafe it was becoming so advised me to scrap it. Damn salty roads.

no hate, but can't understand the "practical" argument a big car makes sense if it's practical in the conditions you're using it: A Ford Ranger is practical in Texas, not in urban Europe. An Octavia is practical in Europe. A Fiat Panda is practical in town. A Skoda Superb is practical in "country side" europe. A Macan is not practical anywhere: it's big outside, but small inside, the boot is small, the headroom is small, the legroom and baby-seat-room is small. Buying it because you want it - all fine, but the dad excuse - nah. Edit: didn't consider towing. The superb tows 2t, not enough I guess

Several Skoda Superb Estate - with 4WD - models have a max towing capacity of 2.2t, and has in fact won 'Towcar of the Year' many times with many different publications (from Practical Caravan to The Caravan & Motorhome Club'). Only Porsche Macans BEFORE 2021 have a 2.4t towing capacity, since then (and current models), have a maximum TC of only 2t. (Incidentally, I drive a 3 litre diesel Audi A6 estate which has a max TC of 2.5t, but then again, Porsche/Audi/Skoda - I don't think VAG care which one we all buy!).

I love the way people are defending Alex buying his Porsche Macan because "he's become a Dad and NEEDS a SAFE car for his child and family" hmmmm There are tens of thousands of us Dad's driving their kids around in £1000 sh*tboxes that are perfectly safe. It's like the guy who wins millions on the lottery and moves to a nice area, buys a mansion and nice cars and forgets all his mates on the old estate. Me personally I could not give toss in what he buys with his cash. If he buys a Porsche Macan and loves it then good luck to him. If he wants to make videos about his Porsche Macan again that's great and I hope they are successful I personally will give those videos a miss because I am not really interested and that's also fine . I have also noticed as the cars has become more and more expensive the views on his videos whilst big are starting to go down consistently. And the subscribers numbers added have slowed to a crawl. I would say be careful not to alienate the original subscribers that made this channel what it is today. Without those subscribers there would be no Porsche Macan.

On the topic of smart motorways, they no longer put a Red Cross on lane 1 when there’s a broken down vehicle in an emergency lay-by, instead they put a speed limit such as 40 and the signs tell people to move over but don’t close the lane. This relies on people actually moving over so a recover truck can rejoin the motorway with said broken down vehicle. 🤯

Should be no hate, I daily an C7 RS6 that was bought to tow my MR2 race car. It is big and comfy and most importantly has room for my dog and my family feels safe in it. If you can afford it then why not you have earned it with all the hard work.

The two of you bought practically the same car then as they are both on the MLB platform. Except yours has a bigger boot, lower center of gravity for better cornering and is faster. I don't mind him treating himself. He has deserved it. But I do think he could've made a better choice than that Macan.

The Chelsea tractor is the Range Rover sport, ‘the ra ra’ People like you spoil his experience of buying his car. Can you not see that he feels crap from the comments people like you are making. As a new dad, when Alex announced he was gonna be a father, one of the things that came into my mind was "what car will he choose as a family car?" Within the ethos of the channel, there are some good options; X5, Q5, Q7, Touareg, Kodiaq, etc, or even an older Porsche Cayenne. So I was a bit disappointed when the choice was a £28k car.

that's the same with where I am I am not in mainland, Japan… I am on a small island if I was up north, we would have regular roads and it would be easier to get around but down here it seems like I am experiencing the same things you are with skinny roads and people who don't really understand the right of way. when everybody comes to a pinched area, they just stop But they stop at the area where it is the skinniest… But I attempt to stop earlier to allow them to navigate around the obstacle… But they just sit there, and I have to actually physically open the window and wave them through the obstacle, even if there's inclement weather… Otherwise, I understand the size of my own car so I just squeezed through at whatever speed I'm traveling at

I love the Macan, even thought of getting one myself. As of estate, which can tow and isn't too flashy - c7 s6. Where I live most A6es have S6 badges anyways, so hardly noone will notice. And mpg isn't any better 😂.

I feel like with the motorway thing there is also blame on just people who use these. Im a delivery driver so motorways are my daily commute. There is always someone doing 60 in the fast lane which then makes you have to speed and undertake. Anyways what im saying is people should be more educated on motorway driving which from experience instructors dont touch on very much.

It is very subjective and no hate intended, but Alex is becoming the weakest point of this network of channels. All the gear guys are smashing it out of the park. it's fresh, and it's new. Taylor's standalone V2 videos are fantastic, he's fantastic. TDC...again...daft, silly challenges, but the content is relatable, the cars are obtainable for most of the target audience. I've not bothered with an Autoalex video for a long while now. Feels like a return to your roots is needed.

I was thinking about that just yesterday. I'd rather watch Ethan and Jack walking in the dark or sitting under a tarp in a copse in the middle of a roundabout than whatever Alex has popped into lately. I feel like he has this Big Lad Energy, and it distracts from whatever content he involves himself in anymore. This might be the best time for him to focus on the family and make small guest appearances when appropriate, and otherwise focus on the backend of managing the channel as family allows.

I think it’s great to see a mix of cars on the channel. I can’t see why you’d get hate for buying a quick reliable daily for your family.
