VCDS has saved me thousands on my own car. I couldn't justify buying a scan tool for myself, considering there is a highly reputable VW specialist not ten minutes down the road, but Ross-Tech (local, in my area) is a very serious business and the independent shop that helps keep my 09 JSW running flawlessly recognises that. It's funny this video was posted at almost exactly the same time I needed a solid CEL code scanned. The detailed explanation I was given by the shop tech was pretty much straight from VCDS (because they know me and know I understand "car jargon" lol) and likely prevented a several-thousand-dollar repair. Plus, as a programmer myself, I can't speak highly enough of Ross-Tech's transparency and customer support. If/when I end up changing various computerised component settings (DRLs, central locking, RCD510 install maybe?) I know what tools I'll be using.

i have been a canadian audi dealer tech for about 2 years now , we only use ODIS and i never heard of VAG-com VCDS . we have an old laptop with a old program on it but we call it the OBD scanner for 2004 and older car , maybe thats the vag-com or VCDS. Coming from a Japanese car tech to a German car dealership i found it very difficult to adapt , but i am getting the hang of it =)

Autologic isn't a code reader. Our shop uses that all the time for MB and BMW work. I know first hand it works for hydraulic bleed sequences for brakes and suspension systems plus much more. It is very pricey, like over 10k pricey.

Thank you for all your videos, especially this one . As a VW 3rd year apprentice technician this video is very helpful and informative. I've been spending more time investing in the knowledge that Odis has but with a busy shop any extra tool like Vag is something iv been looking into. This video helps makes the choice to spend the money reassuring that its worth investing in specialty VW tools to help my career in the future.👍👍

Just went to my local official vw garage to get my 17 plate scirocco on vcds to get the mfd on mph because mine only has km so no digital speedometer. Anyway 2 hours later they come back and say "we tried but can't do it, we have to contact vw head office in Germany to see what we can do" Wtf, this is a 5min job ffs. So now I'm stuck waiting 2 days to a week to see what Germany have to say about this balls up.

I'm an Audi dealer tech. ODIS is pretty neat but you gotta say there are a lot of test plans that don't lead to anything and it gets really annoying when the MVB's arent in english. All in all I do believe vagcom to be a valuable tool but I don't think you need it in a dealership setting to earn good money.

I purchased this car brand new 7 months ago. And on july 17th i had a flat, installed brand new tire (same specification) as the old tire. And ever since july 17th the steering is no longer "tight,heavy , and direct" it feels "soft" like driving a toyota. The steering is just so much lighter now. I want it to be tight and heavy like before.

I've been watching a lot of your videos and I am at my wits end with my 2001 Golf VR6 and hope you can give some advice. I have a VCDS but not too experienced with it. I've got a VCDS codes of 17511 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating; B1 S1 (P1103 - 35-10 - Performance too Low - Intermittent) 17604 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heater Circuit: B1 S1 (P1196 - 35-10 - Electrical Malfunction - Intermittent) I've replaced the cat, both O2 sensors, spark plugs and cleaned off MAF. Car ran fine for about 20 miles and started to stumble at times when at idle and the same codes came back. I've thought os cleaning the throttle body but not sure that will help. Any ideas?
@HumbleMechanic5 жыл бұрын
Probably a wiring issue with the o2 to the ECM

@@HumbleMechanic I'll check that out, oh I forgot to mention the check engine light went out and it seems to run a little better right now but I've been though that before. I'll see if it comes on again.

SUCCESS! Well I don't like anything to beat me. Figured out my writing was good to go so I decided to remove the throttle body and clean it. Car runs like a charm now. VCDS shows readiness is good except need a few more miles for it to be ready for emissions.

let me just tell you that autologic, rivals VW factory scan tool, and is miles better than ross tech, it can do module programming, something that Ross tech will not, the only drawback with autologic is the price, is so expensive that only the VW/AUDI especialized techs are willing to spend big chunk of money on autologic, is very good diagnostic machine.
@HumbleMechanic7 жыл бұрын
I don't have much experience with Autologic, but I have heard similar feedback from people. Ross tech will not do what the OE scanner will. But is another great tool to have in the box. I really think if a shop is going to be "the dealership alternative" they should invest in OE scan tools or the equivalent. They aren't going to last with just VCDS. (I think we are saying the same thing BTW) :)

If only the technicians in UK dealerships were even as half as good as you......i mentioned vag-com/vcds to a master tech and he says 'whats that?'....remember ya video on whistling PCV valves on the 2.0 TSI? - tech in dealership here removed the auxiliary belt and because the noise didn't go away said it was internal to the engine and we need to strip the entire engine down or new engine. Completely different mentality from VW techs in the UK - one of sheer arrogance and insular thinking.
