Glenner Town Square is a treatment center for people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. It looks like a 1950s town, designed to help spark memories from aging participants using reminiscence therapy. Participants rotate through a series of activities that keep the mind and body active.

My wife was a dietary manager in a nursing home. She ordered a bunch if those plastic baskets and checkered wax paper, like dairy bars used to use, for certain meals ( fish, burgers, hot dogs) . The residents were thrilled and you could see them remembering how it was when they were young. Something that simple made a big impact on them

I used to work with Alzheimers patients and I really tried to make any moment nice for them. Like going for walks and listening to the same story over and over and acting like I never heard it before. Or this one guy loved getting shaved so I done that every time I was there. But although it was a bad experience and very sad. I truly can appreciate life more after it.

Seeing this compared to the ones in Europe just, idk it makes me sad. It's so stifling being in a big warehouse, vs outside and a natural setting with sunlight and weather etc. The black roof looks like it would be so oppressive. LIke they'd feel back in the 50s, but somehow darkened and brooding.
