Very good story. You're just a little older than me. Sounds like you love radio as much as I did. I gave up on it about 12-15 years ago. I became disabled then and just could no longer afford to buy transceivers and goodies as stuff went down. I also live in an unbelievable valley. It is an ancient riverbed that cuts through one of the Appalachian foothills. Total dead-zone. Thanks for the feel good story.

good am, been subscribed to your channel for barely a few months now, thanks for sharing a little of your history, all the while, I thought I am one of the few who is possessed by the beauty and power of radios, been collecting radios since I was a kid, but only am and fm radios, but unfortunately I lost them due to the fact that I move from one place to another, until by chance I happened to watched your channel and my interest in radios just became alive again, I started to look for and salvage whatever is remaining from my handful of my few collections of portable radios, one of them is a Sony Icf sw 11, another one is also a Sony 1cf p26, I never knew that 1cf sw11 is a sw and lw receiver until I saw your videos which somehow opened my ears to shortwave listening, you taught me how to improvise a wire antenna with alligator clips and I was able to appreciate shortwave listening, though I have a lot to learn in that field, before I love to listen to am stations only, you and your channel have been very helpful for people like me, all is not too late for me and I believe I am not too old to learn the beauty and art of shortwave listenning, I have a lot to learn, thank you very much for continuously sharing your knowledge and thoughts, more power to you and your channel sir and warmest regards to you and is mr paul ok? kudos from the philippines! 73's!!

Great stuff. I've been enjoying a lot of your PL990 content. Like the rest of the internet, I bought something and then did more "research" to validate my purchase. Luckily it seems I did ok.

Great video! It was nice to hear about your background in radio and electronics. It makes for very casual listening. 🙂 I believe I had my 1st radio (Portable AM) when I was around 7 years old. I was yardsaling with my parents, and they bought it for me. It came with a leather case. That is what got me started with radios and electroncs. I have a couple of police scanners, CB radios, and my 1st shortwave radio will be arriving soon.

Hi, your story is very interisting because is just like mine. I started with a only MW Radio which I bought in the age of 10. From this time on I had the radio fever. Now at the age of 50 I own about 20 Radios a I've built me a little cabin in the garden away from QRM with different antennas. Thanks for sharing your story. It was fun to see that I'm not the only one whose infected by this virus. All the best to you and good DX from germany. 73's

Great 👍 👌 story. I have been following your more recent KZbin videos about reception and SW equipment, which has been very helpful to me. I am kind of an old timer, being 77 and having an interest in electronics since 1960, when I was 16, and in High School, starting with MW, then SW, with a Hallicrafters SX-110, from an old time Radio Shack store. Then I moved on to Amateur Radio in 1962 to this day. Thank you. 😊 73 de W2CH, Ray

Great, I am twenty years older than you but I used to like fiddling with the SW band on my radio when I was younger but didn’t understand what it was, I think many radios included SW back then, and also tuning into local utility/police broadcasts on FM back in the 70s I think. Just started to get back into SW now in my retirement and have purchased a Tecsun PL-680, due to be delivered tomorrow.

Cool video, and that is quite the collection! Maby do a series where you do short explanations on each of your radios, or at least say you top five radios that you own.
@slam8544 жыл бұрын
My story is similar. I started listening 1965 on a new Halicrafters S120 that I earned money to buy. I would tune around and the programs that would come in. It was then that I realized what we were taught in school was only a piece of the truth. Arnie Coro RHC was a favorite and still is. I still have that S120 but listen on a Tecsun S2000 with a MLA30 antenna. Reception is quite good. Other night I had a guy in Vancouver 14313 usb talking clear as could be to another in Quebec. Like they were next door.

Good video on how you got into the hobby. Are you a ham radio operator too or just a listener? I went from my first shortwave radio to being a ham radio operator in less than a year. I was in my early 20s at the time, and wish I had gotten into it earlier but didn't know it existed before then. I'm also in IT as a network administrator, and I'm going to guess it's probably fairly common for a lot of people in IT to also like other electronics, including radio. Good to hear you also have a vhf and above channel now too, which I also like but don't us it that often anymore since Houston, TX went to digital trunking last year. I do get on 2m ssb occasionally and am amazed sometimes how far out it reaches.

I am now a ham operator ... but I think i'll be looking into it this year... would like to operate on HF and have contacts all over the world. i'll be posting videos on how I did it and when I get my license..

I agree with U 💯 percent.... Shortwave is not active as it was when I was a kid in the 1970s...I wanted a radio that had every band... from LW to Cellular...I had my first Multi Band in 1975... With AM FM CB SW1 SW2 AIR PB...it was Candy to me....than I got the Pro 2004 radio from radio shack in the United States....to get the 800-1300mhz band...it was my Gateway to the High Bands....than in the later 80s to the early 90s I got into satellite Dish tv ...wow that was amazing to see tv from Europe and Asia 🌏...That was when I was in California...now I DX LW MW ans and SW and internet...The UHF band is dead now because of digital.. that is a bummer

Same thing here, I bought a older realistic single side band shortwave I knew what shortwave was but I had never mess with single side band and wow it had all the meters I felt like instant ham man. Don't care for FM VHF repeater UHF that much but I do have some I like HF I've got a Cobra CB radio that has a HF setting.and I do know that citizens bad used to be part of the ham frequency anyway very interesting stuff I'm trying to figure out what I have to do to this Cobra to make it work with HF I believe it's all in the antenna because I can receive CB signals with it turned onto HF with the regular antenna
