Trainer here :) If you plan to read the scale daily, I advise you look at the average of each week (add up the 7 days you weight and divide by 7). Compare the averages each week rather than the daily number. That would be a more realistic idea of what you way. Weight fluctuates, just like stress levels. Look at the overall, rather than the daily. The stresser (or number on the scale) will seem rather small and not so big....if that makes sense :) Good luck! You gained back only 2 lbs, which can attribute to hormones, water intake, sodium intake, lack of sleep....do not let the small daily number bring you down.

SCALE ISSUES: can be many things. Water retention, muscle gain, weight gain, etc. But when your main signifier of weightloss is just reading that scale number, you're going to only think about if it's weight gain. There are these things called "NON SCALE VICTORIES" that you can ask yourself about daily. Jeans fitting better? NSV! Not breathing weird while bending over to tie your shoes? NSV! etc etc. Take measurements. Those won't be NEARLY as flip-floppy as a scale. And, if you choose to do passive weightloss (strength training) then a scale will basically become useless. Food for thought! ♥

Registered Dietitian here - sustainable weight loss shouldn’t exceed 1-2 lbs per week, and it is incredibly normal - and expected - to have weight shifts that go up and down by a couple of pounds depending on the day, hormone fluctuations, salt intake, etc. Obviously you do what you feel is best, but I would suggest maybe not weighing every single day, and instead maybe move to a once every 3-5 days schedule, or maybe weigh yourself without looking and have Jordan write it down and you only look at the averages at the end of the month. Your loss weight loss won’t look like a straight downward line, it is expected to have plateaus and even weight gain-back of a few pounds even while the overall trend continues downward. Checking your weight this frequently and putting that much emphasis and pressure on yourself to continuing losing at least SOME amount every. single. time you look at the scale could potentially be setting you up for numerous frustrations and burnout when that number doesn’t drop as much as you were idealizing in your head that it should have. Keep reminding yourself that the number on the scale is just a measure of the earth’s gravitational pull on you. Even if your weight stayed the EXACT same as it is right now, making more health-supporting/nourishing eating habits like you are right now would STILL be just as worth it, because your body’s worth comes from the fact that it carries around your essence (soul/brain/spirit/whatever you want to call it). The best reason for making nourishing food choices isn’t to affect its appearance, it’s to care for its internal functions that keep you healthy and safe - and if weight loss is a side effect of those nourishing choices, then so be it. Last tip: this is so difficult and takes practice, but it’s something that so many of patients say was the key to their successful, sustainable weight loss - shift your mindset to stop thinking of every meal as an opportunity where you sacrificed the food you actually wanted to eat in order to eat something “healthy” instead, and start thinking of each meal as an opportunity to fuel your body with great nutrients like fiber, protein, healthy fats, vitamins/minerals, etc. I know that to yourself it feels like you are totally joking when you play around about “look at what I’m having for lunch instead of you 🙃😒☹️😩”, I totally get that and believe me I’m not trying to be harsh, just pointing out a new perspective, but that really does reinforce in your own mind that you are feeling cheated of something, that you’re missing out, and that the food you’re eating isn’t as good as what you see others eating. This will always leave you feeling like you’re missing out and it’s just not a sustainable way to feel - NO one could be expected to happily choose that feeling every day 3x/day at each meal, and it probably won’t foster a really healthy, beneficial relationship with your food that you would like. Instead I would encourage you to think of those meals that you have different options than others as opportunities to nourish your body with a lot of really great nutrients. Take a moment to really feel grateful and privileged that you have the resources, knowledge, and support to make food choices that are nourishing to your body. It sounds so freaking lame, but I promise you over time it will lessen the feeling of resentment toward “healthier” foods. It’s also helpful to keep learning about what foods offer besides just calories. When you look at a piece of whole grain bread I don’t want you to just see “carbs” and “100 calories”, I also want you to see “fiber that helps my digestive health” and “protein that supports muscle tissue growth and immune system health” and “vitamins/minerals that support cellular turnover and regeneration”, and instead of looking at vegetables as “I can eat a lot and it’s low calorie” I want you to think “these have lots of vitamins/minerals that will help my immune system function better” and “the fiber in this will help keep my poop schedule regular as hell” lol. You get what I mean. Overall, you’re doing great!!! Give yourself enough credit for the effort you’ve put in, but also be careful that you’re prioritizing your overall mental health and how enjoyable your relationship with food is over how much the number on the scale moves!!! Love you, good luck ❤️

This! I came here to say this exact thing. Our bodies naturally fluctuate due to SO many factors. Water, sodium, hormones (hello, menstruation!) The scale is just a tool and can be used to look at overall trends, but try not to put too much weight (no pun intended) on the day-to-day changes. Small changes every day will lead to big changes with time.

I haven’t watched this video yet - however, my mom came to me this year and told me she’s had an eating disorder for 28 years. I had no idea, no one did. My dad (her ex-husband) even had no clue. She moved to keto a couple years ago which “healthily/socially acceptable” fueled her eating disorder. And we were all cheering her on with this weight loss, not knowing we were feeding her ED. From this experience, I’ve learned to view peoples soul and not their physical body. I do not comment on anyones body. Weight loss. Diet. Our faces, bodies, skin, weight, hair, etc. are changing and morphing every day. Fall in love with every phase of yourself. And because of that, I will say - Jaclyn, you genuinely look happy. RE: Weight gain on a weight loss journey. I have been there so many times before. I hope it helps to know that fluctuations in weight are very normal. The most important thing that you can do about when you see the number go up on the scale is to keep being consistent. For me, my weight shoots up days before my period starts and just before my ovulation week. It's usually just water weight, but if the scale is becoming particularly stressful for you, you may try to look at how your weight trends in a graph rather than focusing on the day-to-day. It will get better and it will get easier. And you will learn to trust yourself more!

Marathon runner, running coach and personal trainer here- Weight loss in pounds is not the best measurement in the short term for this reason. Water retention (from salty foods, stress or dehydration etc.) or slow digestion aka food in your stomach and intestines can make the number on the scale higher than the day prior but in no way does that mean you gained two pounds in two days! You are doing amazing keep up the good work and like you said you did this at first to feel good and by the looks and sounds of it, it seems like you do feel good! Don’t get discouraged and keep going, it’s hard work and something I tell myself is if it was easy everyone would be doing it. Love you xoxo

I’m honestly so proud of you to see this journey and watch you get yourself to where you want to be again 🖤 weight has nothing to do with it it’s so much more the mental factor the physical the happiness there peace etc I’m going through a very similar journey after a 50lbs weight gain no longer wearing makeup just letting me slip completely from everything I loved about myself. Your series is helping so much. Xoxo love you Jaclyn

About the chat you had at the end: I think people make fun of others and “taunt” them for trying to better themselves because you’re highlighting the poor choices they’re making. I work out pretty much every day and cop so much shit from friends and family about how I’m “trying too hard”. I work out because it’s good for me. But they don’t like it because it makes them feel guilty for not doing the same thing, even though I never say a word to them about it. Just ignore them ❤️

First of all, your skin is glowing!! You look amazing and I can tell a huge difference from your progress photos. You go girl!!! Someone once told me on days where I didn’t see the scale move to use a tape measure and take my measurements- then about once per month redo those measurements and see how many inches you’ve lost. This has uplifted me on days I saw the scale go up. You are doing great and you got this - your recipes look incredible too!!!
