The only thing I can come up with for Kepler waking you up, is that perhaps you simply sleep more deeply when Mal's not in the house? Though perhaps it's just a cat being a cat. I guess if you really wanted to solve this mystery you could record the room, to see exactly what Kep is doing while you sleep.

That's actually quite interesting how you've identified he doesn't wake you up if Mal's not there. Someone get a cat psychologist to explain that. (They do exist; my PhD supervisor once had to hire a spider psychologist when doing those experiments where you have spiders spin webs while on different drugs).
