I’m 8 weeks out. I have great range of motion, straightening, bending are great from the PA and Surgeon, yet PT seems to want me to keep pushing past the 121 it is already, and I have IT band issues and nerve irritations already from the surgery. When the PT pushed me where it hurt too much, I quickly tapped her hand 2 times and said ouch. Last week, I made a list of my issues from the surgeon I saw last week, to show the PT next week. Thank you for this video, I needed it also!

I’m at 7 weeks and this really helped me. No pain no gain has been my mantra post op. But I can see this approach doesn’t work for TKR (including an aggressive Osteotomy I had in same knee at same time) I always go to you Tony when I’m having a bad day. Thank you AGAIN!

I am 14 weeks now and in a lot of pain. My surgery was done by a top doctor who does over 800 knees a year. All my friends had the same doctor with no issues. I had bone on bone, arthritis, knocked kneed my whole life and by the time I was told I needed surgery it appeared my whole leg bowed out. I don’t ever recall having flexion issues. My left/good knee has 148 degrees of flexion and I am 77 years old. Ok, so the surgery went fine EXCEPT they got me up immediately and I was able to do everything. When I sat down there was a pool of blood on the floor. The doctor ordered an MRI and I laid in that hospital bed for 4 days before I got an MRI and told it was all good and sent home. So I had a bad start. I got PT at home and got to 120 with flexion pretty quickly. Then I started to slide backwards and my main complaint was behind my knee, I thought I had a baker’s cyst. Surgeon said I did not. Ordered outside PT and I did get more flexion. However towards the end I noticed that pain was really sore on the outside of my knee and behind the knee. No problem unless I want to walk more than 15 minutes. It is totally frustrating because I experience sharp pain while doing flexion exercises in the calf of that leg pulling back or extending. Sometimes I feel a little pop. They recently did an x-ray, it looked fine. The doctor put me on prednisone twice which reduced the swelling but surprisingly I still felt that sharp excruciating pain. I ice like crazy. I use a 1000 CBD cream that takes the edge off short term. I use voltaren and that helps a little short term. When I asked my doctor what he thought I was told if he looked at the knee physically on x-ray and visually it all looks fine. I don’t think he knows. My dream is to be able to walk again and hopefully ride a bike. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. PS At one point they thought I was having a DVT but an ultrasound proved that not to be true. I am so depressed any help you can provide I would appreciate.

I can’t thank you enough for this information. I’m 7 weeks post-op, right TKR today! I reached 123 degrees flexion last week at 6 weeks. I have been very happy with my progress so far and have not had any setbacks. Ive already reached the goals my therapist set for me and scored 5/5 on the 6 week assessments. Then boom…this 7 week mark has unsettled me. I was laying on my stomach bringing my post op leg up to flexion/heel to glute and experienced sharp, stabbing pain across my knee cap that shot up into my hip area and down to my ankle. A stretch I had done many times in the post op period and never had any pain with it. It has left me pretty unsettled and concerned. After watching this video, I realize that Ive also been walking more, gardening more and using my stationary bike more and have increased the weight on my leg extension machine. So, I think with all of the increased activity that Ive been doing it would make sense that my knee is more stiff, a little more tender and sometimes downright painful. And considering I dont take anymore pain medications, Im more likely just feeling all of the increase in activity as your video states, so thank you for this! One last thing…have you ever addressed scar friction in any of your videos? I get a feeling similiar to “rug burn” over my scar when I wear certain fabrics like sweat pants. My bed sheets also irritate my scar and will cause a burning sensation and will leave the scar looking red and inflammed. This will resolve overnight if I sleep covered with a soft blanket and no pajama bottoms on. I dont have this issue if I wear shorts that dont hit my scar area but any fabric to touch the scar causes that irritation and burning feeling. Thanks so much!

I'm almost 7 weeks too and lots of pain and having a hard time working on ROM. I started having sciatic pain about two weeks that got much worse between 4-5 weeks, partly due to being on my feet working on in my house too much. But, I had an overzealous PT who forced my knee into extending and flexion even though it was setting off my sciatica and causing extreme pain. Wouldn't listen to me and stop. I had about 2 degrees of extension and 112 degrees of flexion at 4 weeks. Just couldn't get that far after the episode with the PT. My surgeon thought I had a pinched nerve. Told me to quit PT and work on it on my own. Everything I read says don't do anything which triggers the sciatica, which means I can't do a lot to work on flexion. I saw a spine doctor Friday who agrees. X-ray shows I have significant deterioration in my lower spine. He gave me a prescription for gabapentin for now. I'll be getting an MRI to try to find out exactly where the pinched nerve is and possibly get an injection through an epidural. None of this will fix anything but maybe buys me time till it can resolve itself. In the meantime, I'm worried that I'm going to lose my extension and flexion while I wait to be better. I'm moving, trying to work on stairs, I do heel slides and bend it on warm bath best as possible without triggering the sciatica. The gabapentin takes the edge off and ice at least been able to sleep again, but I don't love the side effects.

I have also been plagued by sciatica on top of very bad pain verging on the unbearable. I have lower back arthritis too. I sleep for about 2 hours at night and am then awake for hours. I've been taking Gabapentin for many years but be warned- it is very difficult to come off of this caring, with horrible withdrawal symptoms so don't take more than essential. It affects the memory and van make you tired. I was on 1800mg a day for over 20 years, now reduced to 600mg. I've read that in the USA, as much as 3600mg a day is prescribed even though there's no point because beyond 1800mg, there's no improvement in symptoms.

I started out with a partial knee replacement in my right then 6 weeks later the left. My right kneecap would not stay in so in October they did a lateral release. This led to complications of bleeding internally twice. Had 3 surgerys in 11 days. I was unable to bend my knee after that. Lots of physical therapy with me pulling a rope that was tied to my ankle. Not fun very painful but i did manage to get to zero extension and 125 flexion. Once i had my strength back in my quads they did a revision on February 9th. So I had to start over 3 times on physical therapy. I lost count on how many times I wanted to quit and give up. I was so tired of the extreme pain and being stuck at home. Thanks to my therapist I am now 6 weeks since my total knee replacement revision surgery, and Im back to zero extension and up to 125 flexion. Its been a long road but there's light at the end of the tunnel. Don't give up keep your faith and it will work out!

Yes, sure will. I'm 7 weeks post op, and doing good. Now on reduced medication. Still having tightness, a few light pains on the inside of knee, on off. Keep doing the exercises you've been given by PT. It will get easier. Tip. If on alot of pain killers. Try the ibuprofen rub in gel around the sides, and back of knee. Rub in well. This gets to the pain quicker. Rub quite a blob in. Use at Knight b4 bed too. This helped me big time on both ops. 3 years ago, had my right knee done. 👍

@@edwardnunez8046me too, and that's on a good day! I'm at 5 weeks. That's 5 weeks of very little sleep and probably not doing the amount of exercise I should due to extreme pain.
