Wow, what a trip! I got laid off in 2011 and traveled around Mexico in a bus (up from Guatemala) and ended up in gto. I started my online business in the 3 years I lived there, right down the street from Bar Fly. Shout out to Cafe Tal! That's where I worked every single morning while I built my business. Now I live in Southeast Asia since 2016, traveling all over the world. Guanajuato City is such a gem. No car needed and cheeeeap rent. $240 right in the center of town. I'm gonna get a residence visa in Mexico soon and I'll spend my time mostly in Condesa and Gto city. My two favorite spots in Mexico. Thanks for the vid, love it!

$20 for lunch and $40 for a room in a cheap part of Mexico means you're being charged Gringo prices not local prices. I have friends who spend a couple of months in winter in Mexico, and they pay a fraction of that. One is originally from there, so they clearly pay local prices.

there is no grigo prices there are laws to have prices posted, so no you are just going to the tourist spots but food being cheap in Mexico, if you go to apple bees(weird to see a yank in the part were most non poor people go, whats with the loving misery?) It's only cheaper for some items and way more expensive than u.s. Applebee's, I would rather pay 4 times the price(cheaper than tourist traps) than to interact with the poor, you think we enjoy beggars and people playing annoying music? Authentic how exactly most of our culture was created post civil war, 1930's, if you dont count the ever evolving Vaquero(original cowboys) culture thats our oldest culture but we are white and you dont like that do you, that would be like you going to live in the u.s. but you only want the projects to have the most authentic eperience, you are just there to feel better about your self we only want the one in Cancun and la condeza any way, the rest of you weirdos are going to get it soon (way more taxes and visa requirements)

I mean to be honest it depends on your accent is chicanos in America don’t speak Spanish in our native accents sometimes people mistake me for a Colombian/Salvador sometimes depends on the season I guess and a Central American accent can cause a lot of trouble they littered robbed a lot of cities on their way through.

It's like any place else that Americans with money flock too. The local realtors and everyone else figures out "what Americans afford", and they charge accordingly even if it drives their own friends out of the city. Greedy people are everywhere, and as soon as people figure out you have money, the price goes up.

Hi Guys! First the translation of "what he said" at the end of your video. "For everything bad, Mezcal, for everything good, the same, AND IF IT DOESN"T HELP, THEN (drink) A LITER AND A HALF. Cute saying! Loving your Mexico vlogs. I lived and went to school in Guadalajara from 1978 to 1982, and it got into my soul. I loved it. The people, the food, the climate, todo. I visited Guanajuato back then and bought some great boots. I've been following you since Portugal which I finally visited this past September in part due to your vlogs . We loved it, but not enough to want to live there. Now we want to check out the Costa del Sol area of Spain. However you have me thinking about mi Mexico! Keep up the good work. By the way, Guadalajara is a great city that has everything except beaches/ocean. The medical care is excellent, which I don't know would be true in Guanajuato.

Considering buying real estate in Mexico as a foreigner? A few important things to know: 1. Cash only purchase: As a foreigner “extranjero”, you cannot get a mortgage for a house; only Mexican citizens and residents are allowed loans. 2. Property title: you DO NOT hold the title to the Mexican property as a foreigner if you buy 50 kilometers (about 30 miles) from the coast and 200 kilometers (about 125 miles) from the border. What you get is a “fideicomiso” which is essentially a trust held at a Mexican bank, and the bank holds the title for you. Sounds dodgy, right? Like, what if the bank defaults or goes out of business? That was our biggest fear. But! Fideicomiso is the legal way they do real estate in Mexico, and it’s the only way to buy RE as a foreigner near the ocean and/or borders. 3. Residency: Mexico recently upped their financial requirements for becoming a resident, and it’s absolutely insane: $180,000 USD in your savings account! Not trying to deter anyone from purchasing RE, just trying to inform and educate :)

When I've spoken to native Mexicans here in the US in Spanish, they get shocked when I tell them that I've lived in the US practically all my life and still sound as though I were a native Mexican who recently arrived to the US. I've been living in Guanajuato for 16 years now, and I can tell you I pay $75 USD per month for my rent. And it's a furnished aparment (all services included) in a very nice area of the city, with parking spot. Since it's mainly a student city, the costs stay low for everybody, including tourists, retired foreigns and professional workers from other cities (like myself). In your video you guys said you didn't see tourists, but well, probably it wasn't a weekend when a lot of mexican tourists come to our city to party. Or maybe it wasnt vacation high season or holidays, when a lot of foreing people come to visit the city. BTW, in October we host the BIGGEST artistic festival in Latin America, and 3rd biggest in America (Festival Internacional Cervantino), which this year just happened to be its 50th anniversary. Guanajuato is beautiful and affordable!! I stayed twice at Hotel Edelmira. Right across the street from the yellow gold cathedral landmark is a cafe that has amazing food! Crazy to say but the best club sandwich I've ever had. I say that because it was all real meats not sliced processed. Actually that was the norm across the city, amazing food! Esp the real homemade ice cream vendors too. It feels like you're in 16th century Spain which I believe is when it was built by the Spaniards. Absolutely beautiful!

Do your research the Spanish after invading didn't build it they forced the Indians that lived there to build it, under penalty of death or imprisonment and stole all their gold, silver and gems and took most of it back to Spain. Believe me the Indians didn't get paid anything to do it either. Do you actually believe the Conquistador's or the Catholic priest built those church's, Cathedrials and buildings? They didn't! Read how the Spaniards treated the Native people worse then the white European's treated the American Indians.

Visitors and tourists don't make it expensive. Greed makes it expensive. @@gsanchez5116 I don't think it's reasonable to blame visitors for locals raising prices. It's more reasonable to blame the greed of those who are raising prices to gouge the visitors. People need to take more responsibility for admitting that they're irrationally greedy, and that they don't actually care about how their choices may negatively impact others. Only then will 'the problem' be identified at its root cause. And only when the root cause is identified can an effective solution be created and implemented.

San Miguel de Allende is exploding and really don’t need more promotion like this video. There are hundreds of videos about San Miguel. Give it a break. And we’re not talking about how locals can’t afford to live in their own town.

what is wrong with gentrification? it has way more positives than negatives. somehow it's a human right that people should be allowed to live in run down decaying buildings? instead of worrying so much about gentrification in Latin nations, you should worry about the destruction of US cities and towns by millions of undocumented migrants who have no money, no work and too often a criminal background. the US is being absolutely overrun and destroyed by the migrant crisis, but somehow that is virtuous.
@RedroomStudios

@@marilou4960 as if the number of videos is the cause. people are leaving wealthy western countries in droves because of the corrupt Marxist agendas they are pushing on their citizens. people have to go somewhere and San Miguel is one of those places. there are dozens of other magnets for people in Mexico. why is it that you dont express concern for the US being overrun by undocumented migrants with no job prospects and that have a high rate of criminal activity? clearly brainwashed by leftist ideology. it's somehow only the brown people that are always the victims.

@@RedroomStudios I'm pretty sure the US is the one bringing in immigrants because of how much money it brings to the country, and how lazy the people who live in the US are. They need a larger work force of people who do real jobs that actually contribute the maintenance of buildings, electricity, utilities, and farming, it's the only way the economy can thrive. Either way, the other commenter has a right to worry about his own country just as you do about yours... you shouldn't be mad because they don't give you special privileges when you visit their country. Also, it's surprising how many Americans are misinformed by media... You should look up this scientifically reviewed article: Source: Stowell, Jacob I., Ramiro Martinez, and Jeffrey M. Cancino. "Latino crime and Latinos in the criminal justice system: Trends, policy implications, and future research initiatives." Race and social problems 4 (2012): 31-40. SUMMARY: - Media portrayal and public perception often overstate Latino involvement in crime. - The increase in Latino incarceration is partly due to policies and enforcement programs like Operation Streamline and enhanced border security. (You can blame your politicians for creating fake media here in order to fund things that they want) - Using data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the study found that higher Latino concentration is generally associated with lower homicide victimization rates. (This finding contradicts the stereotype that increased Latino populations lead to higher crime rates.) - Regional analyses focused on border states showed that counties near the US-Mexico border do not have significantly higher homicide rates compared to non-border counties. National analyses revealed that states with the highest Latino population growth did not experience increased homicide rates; in fact, they saw sharper declines in homicide rates compared to the national average.

Portugal is a great country to live in Europe. Amazing climate, food, education and health system. You can get the NHR/D7 visa which is easy to obtain. You can also get a mortgage in Portugal, avoiding the current abusive rents, with only 20% or 30% downpayment showing your 1040F, paystubs and credit score. Remember to maintain your job until signing the deed here in Europe (process can he done entirely remotely using a local lawyer) then you are free to leave rhe US! If you want to retire on the next 5 to 10 years you can buy now and rent the property until you come. Happy Easter!

I would definitely go back again and stay longer than 3 days.
