The Jedi Council should have taken their own advice, “Fear only breeds more fear, Distrust only breeds more distrust.”
@igormarkov1529 Жыл бұрын
Yeah. it always bugged me: how could "wisest men" in the galaxy be so stupid. They have practically engineered their own monster, the worst fear of Jedi order. I think this entire story about Anakin's betrayal is very poorly written: too plain, practically grade A stupid at times. For example, if an adult Jedi, arrogant and quick action fighter with many victories, a young and powerful man with ambitions figured out what Palpatine actually was a Sith Lord, the wannabe emperor should fall on the floor right there at that very moment, swiftly cut into several screaming pieces: "thank you very much, no time to waste, no need to share that honor with anyone else, that will bring me the trust of the council". And later it was absolutely, crystally clear that Palpatine is using Anakin for his own agenda -- same prescription, same reason: Anakin was way too tough to just obey that dumb psychological pressure.
@megaman37456 Жыл бұрын
@@igormarkov1529 It's actually brilliantly written. Anakin was what most Jedi SHOULD have been in that time period, putting the safety of others over the rules of the code. The Jedi weren't just arrogant, they were complacent. Anakin was a dreamer, he wanted to use his abilities to make the Galaxy a better place, he wanted to end slavery, but thanks to Papa Palpatine none of that happened. The Jedi were also known hypocrites, they follow their code ONLY when it suits them. So fearing Anakin is honestly on par for their general lack of self awareness.

I've always kind of figured that any use of foreshadowing or symbolism was more from the directors than, say, the Jedi's actual attitudes about something they might see as so superficial. I wasn't thinking there was a lot more in-character about Anakin's choice of darker browns in robes to begin with than really, he started out as a kid mechanic and still does his own wrenching and stuff. and that can just be more practical. (Also, really I was a tad surprised to see Obi-Wan's desert garb was actually part of 'official Jedi uniform' rather than 'Typical Tatooine desert clothes to blend in there with' in the first place, when Phantom Menace came out. :) )

@@Kageofyoutube Well, there's how you indicate you never actually paid attention to what yoda said. Yoda gave no advice whatsoever for how to deal with the visions, which is what Anakin was asking about. Anakin was asking 'how do I act in light of these visions' and Yoda gave him some philosophical nonsense about 'letting go', chastising him for caring and, put bluntly, doing NOTHING to help with the situation.Anakin wasn't asking about 'mastery' of anything. Yoda: “Premonitions, premonitions. These visions you have…” Anakin Skywalker: “They are of pain, suffering. Death.“ Yoda: “Yourself you speak of, or someone you know?” Anakin Skywalker: “Someone.” Yoda: “Close to you?” Anakin Skywalker: "Yes.” Yoda: “Careful you must be when sensing the future Anakin. The fear of loss is a path to the dark side.” Anakin Skywalker: “I won’t let these visions come true, Master Yoda.” Yoda: “Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealousy. The shadow of greed that is.” Anakin Skywalker: “What must I do, Master Yoda?” Yoda: “Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.” Quite literally, this conversation goes 'You have premonitions?' 'they are of death, master' 'who?' 'Someone I care for' 'your fear is bad, you should not take premonition to heart' 'I want to do something about them, to prevent it from happening' 'Death is natural, be happy that people die, or you are a greedy boy' 'what shoud I do to stop them from coming true?' 'Nothing. You should simply not try' Is it any goddamn wonder Anakin went dark? He reached out for help and was given a holier than thou lecture that didn't even address the present problem. Yoda has the stupidity to tell Anakin that feelings are bad and that he is wrong for having feelings. Yoda then turns around and PULLS THE SAME CRAP with Luke, proving he has not learned his lesson, and was even so callous as to write off Luke and go 'well, Leia is still around, we'll just use her'. Yoda is not a wise individual. He's got the 'I'm the oldest and most respected, therefore I am right' ivory tower problem, multiplied by his own lifespan and resulting utter detachment from the condition of regular mortals.

@@jtnachos16 I mean that’s YOUR interpretation. Yoda can’t control that Anakin is so emotional, he gave him honest advice but Anakin interpreted it the wrong way same as you just did. At the end of the day is all abt your own perspective on wat yoda rlly meant.
@jtnachos1611 ай бұрын
@@KageofyoutubeI like the casual insulting hypocrisy here of 'your interpretation', then saying I 'interpreted it the wrong way'. If it can be interpreted multiple ways, then there IS no wrong way. There is just a different interpretation from the common one. It was not 'honest advice'. It was a generic moral lesson that had nothing to do with the present situation. Yoda gave vague, dogmatic comments that didn't in any way address Anakin's problems. That isn't 'my interpretation', that is literally HIS WORDS in the CONTEXT OF THE SITUATION. Anakin was hoping for assistance in stopping the vision, not asking for generic self-help advice, jedi-dogma flavored. Yoda at no point asked 'how detailed are these visions' or 'what do you think we could do about these visions'. Yoda never even considered the idea of trying to prevent the vision first and working on the emotional aspect later. He instead declared that Anakin's feelings were wrong, and provided no actual help. He didn't even give a 'the future is always changing' comment. He treated the ENTIRE SITUATION like the individual in question was ALREADY DEAD. Like Anakin was asking how to deal with grief, instead of asking for help with saving a life. Even if he thought Anakin was referring to Obi-wan, that would still be a case of 'we should message obi-wan, let him know his padawan is having premonitions of his death, so he should be careful'. Yoda did the equivalent of telling a depressed person they should just not be depressed anymore, and insulting them for being depressed in the first place. It boggles the mind that ANYONE thinks that Yoda gave good advice there. With outside context, the general idea is solid in theory,a as a general statement. However, with that same context it's also extremely obvious that advice was beyond unhelpful and, truthfully, counterprodcutive in the extreme in that circumstance. Quite bluntly, it should have been EXCEEDINGLY obvious to Yoda, even without the force, that Anakin was in the midst of a mental breakdown over the issue. Instead of offering help he goes 'get over it, you are fail for this even being a problem in the first place'.

The only deceitful thing--which wasn't really deceitful since we know what Anakin thought of his son when he discovered his existence--was when he mentioned Anakin wanted Luke to have his lightsaber. Oh and the "Darth Vader betrayed and murdered your father" is not wrong as Vader is considered a different entity in and out of Star Wars. And something Kenobi believed. You mean when Anakin didn't even want to leave the Order or the Jedi and still revered them up until he was forced to go against them because he killed Mace because of his attachment and secret marriage to Padme (which is the whole reason the Jedi are against attachments and conditional love...because you will choose them over the galaxy and do screwed up crap like Anakin did). I think it’s kind of hypocritical for the Jedi to judge Anakin’s clothing and lightsaber style aligned more for battle when they are in a freaking war. How can you expect to win the war when you don’t fully commit and more worried about things like customs vs practicality.
@mrbl220 Жыл бұрын
Well, if you think about it from the Council's perspective, they're explicilty "Keepers of the peace, not soldiers" as Mace Windu told ol Papa Palps before the war broke out. Something they'd be weary about is losing what it meant to be a Jedi in the larger picture. They also had to adjust to their roles as Generals in a war and probably considered that after the fighting was over, they'd transition back to their more traditional roles. Anakin was keeping with the times and being that most famous Jedi in the Order, it'd make sense that younger padawans and Knights would look to Anakin and see him as the "model Jedi" for the times they lived in. But in reality, the Jedi were too rigid in their approach to what was going on around them, namely Palpatine was clouding their ability to see what his plans were bringing about and his focus on defeating them with their so called "Chosen One." Hell, with Maul revealing that the Sith were still around even after 1000 years or so, that should have been the wake up call to the Council to start doing research and having their Order start learning to be ready for an inevitable confrontation with the Dark Side users, while still carrying out their day-to-day routines of being advisors, peace keepers, and generally "hero-ing" around the galaxy.
@SoloClassics Жыл бұрын
@@mrbl220 There lies the problem, they should not have entered the war. They can’t be peace keepers while at the same time being generals. Generals have to make harsh decisions, decisions that go against their own philosophies and doctrines in order to win. The council was right fear that the war will change the Jedi who participate, it will leave mental scars that will never go away experience emotions such loss or anger that could lead to the dark side. The wars have caused many jedi to lose their way such as Krell, Barris, Vos and ultimately Anakin.
@mrbl220 Жыл бұрын
@@SoloClassics You're definitely right on the fact that the Jedi shouldn't have entered the war. But that was also Palpatine's plan to twist and weaken the Order, hence why Order 66 worked out in his favor. The Jedi were stressed and stretched to their limits and were prime to be betrayed by their clone troopers. That's what makes the fall of the Order so particularly terrible to see. They were narrow in their views and could only really focus on what was going on in front of them, as opposed to being their usual "stretch out with your feelings and see what else is going on" type of mindsets. One of the highlights of Palpatine being the remaining Sith, meant that the Dark Side of the Force was concentrated in him, while the light side was...for lack of a better term, diluted with so many Light side users. This is also why Sheev bested Yoda, who we can kind of place the blame for the fall of the Jedi Order on. He was 800 years old. He saw FAR more in his lifetime and settled the order into the state of peaceful guardians and less ready to react to the chaos that takes place in the larger galaxy. Meanwhile the Sith were planning their revenge through those 1000 years, picking and training those who would secretly carry the Grand Plan forward through the ages until the time was right to defeat their spiritual foes.

Isn't it nice how the Younglings raised from infancy to be "proper Jedi" were teasing Anakin about being a slave? The pressing issue for the Council to address was perhaps not so much what Anakin was wearing or doing, but the fact that their other students, who had received *years* of careful conditioning and training, were so easily overcome by negative emotions like jealousy, envy and resentment. That, rather than show compassion and understanding, they *bullied* their peer. Surely that was an "oopsy" that the Masters needed to address? The Masters looked at Anakin with his robes and techniques and ideas and worried about him, like a teacher 20 years ago worrying that the kid who started wearing trench coats to school every day would come in one morning and kill everyone. And to be fair, that's exactly what Anakin did. That said, the Masters didn't seem to make any special effort to address his peer relationships or the shitty behaviour of their perfect little students (seriously - being bullied about being a slave is what you experience when you start as a Sith Initiate in Star Wars The Old Republic). They just met and wrung their hands while mumbling about how he never should have been trained in the first place. As of episode 5, I tend to agree with the majority of opinions saying he has taken the role of the Father. He has balance, he can embody Light, he can embody Dark, but he has control. When the root of Ahsoka's issues finally were said, he could be Vader so that she could face her trauma, but when she chose life, he could be Anakin again, showing Vader is not in control, but is a tool in how he interacts with the Force. Revision: In the Ahsoka finale, he has his over-robe closed, but the neckline of the garments under it are dark. I think that means even with the brown outer robe, he is being himself.

I know devil's in the details an' all, but honestly! I feel many, especially the Jedi Council, placed too much stock into even little things and made too big a deal about them. They became so dogmatic, so arrogant, so self-righteous and certain in themselves as to what the Jedi Order and their code should be about that they became rigid and inflexible. Their ways became equally stale and obsolete in certain regards. It makes sense for younger Jedi to be held to uniformity, but upon reaching the rank of Padawan it's perfectly fair for a Jedi to express themselves more individually and even more culturally and/or personally. Yes, Anakin was older than they traditionally allowed, but they treated him unfairly while also holding him to unfair expectations. For that matter, Obi-wan was just not the teacher Anakin needed; he only became Anakin's master per the dying request of his own. As for the choice of lightsaber combat, it should be entirely one's own decision as to what style they practice and study w/o being judged for it. Like how it is one's decision as to what kind of skill and/or art one learns, based on personal preference as well whatever one finds practical and works for them. Dooku devoted himself to mastering Makashi becuz of his respect for and enjoyment of, what he deemed, true lightsaber combat even tho he became biased and bigoted about lightsaber combat in general. Anakin's chosen style of Form V wasn't just about getting back at Dooku, it was about growth and mastering his skill in the form and all its variants and disciplines. It was made evident every time he clashed with Dooku that he was growing stronger and more skilled, making it evident that he would eventually best and defeat the count. Altho Anakin wore darker variations of the tradition Jedi attire, it was still recognizably Jedi. Yes, it made him stand out, but it was simply personal expression when it came down to it. Sure, Anakin wore darker robes as a passive form of rebellion, but he was an adolescent boy (all teenagers go through that stage of life) and how he was treated by both his peers and elders didn't help.

It just makes me laugh. The Jedi could have saved their order by instead of ignoring Anakin's pain and trauma, got him some proper therapy to deal with it as well as how to properly process emotions he clearly possessed and when he started having visions of his mother dying, send out a master like Vos to do a quick check and make sure she is okay or rescue her if she is in danger. That would have been enough to sway Anakin in to trusting the council.

Something I find rarely gets brought up in deep talks, but always comes up in surface-level discussion re: the Jedi Council failing at every single turn to support him, is the likelihood that there were a few masters who looked at the prophecy "The Chosen One will bring balance to the Force," squinted at it, and got spooked because of the possibility of the prophecy being literal, while knowing that the Sith are currently extinct (or rather, defunct at least.)

Another great VOD. The arrogance of the Jedi Council during this period can likely be the subject of many VODs. Such as looking at each member during this period and outlining their thoughts and feelings on the Order, war, Anakin, general background history, etc. Perhaps even looking at the council before Geonosis and after. This understanding does give perspective on many eventual outcomes.

Why would him suing the Jedi council not make him turn to the dark side? 💀
@pinheadlarry399211 ай бұрын
@@abirmawi2808 Because if other people besides Palpatine believed the Jedi wronged Anakin and supported him, Palpatine wouldn't be the only person that was on Anakin's side. The biggest reason Anakin chose the dark side was because after his mom died, he felt Palpatine was the only person who cared about him and was on his side. If there were more people on his side during this situation he would've felt vindicated rather than frustrated. Getting justice in the people's court vs. growing more & more resentment until the last straw breaks.
