Life in the sea is suffering from the urbanization of coastal zones. As cities are built and extended, shorelines are hardened with concrete structures that destroy marine ecosystems. Urban researcher Cecilie Sachs Olsen explores how urban planning can take better care of the urban residents that live in the tidal zone and below the water surface. Learn about how she uses creative methods to enable us to think about city-building from the perspective of a crab, a mussel, or a swan. Cecilie Sachs Olsen is a research fellow with the Norwegian Institute of Urban and Regional Research at Oslo Metropolitan University. Cecilie has a background as an artist, curator, theatre scholar and urban researcher. Her work revolves around developing creative methods for urban research and exploring how artistic practice can be used as a framework and re-imagining urban planning, space, as well as politics. At TEDxOsloMet 2021, she will provide insights on how marine species can be included in urban development and planning and therefore, how to take better care of the world under the surface of the ocean. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
