Even so the governments of the world should supply more weapons, it should be our goal to flood Ukraine in anti armor weapons of all types, there should be no shortage. @carterjones81262 жыл бұрын
They pretty much negate Russia's heavy armour advantage. MBT's are 20th century technology; they simply aren't as effective as they once were due to advancements in anti-tank weapons. Not to mention they drain fuel supplies at an exceptional rate; something the Russians are experiencing. The tanks can only go as far as their logistics allow them. Tanks with no fuel often get left behind.

@@dougcoombes8497 Sure, they do have a lot of RPG's, but most of that stockpile is from soviet era - way past its expire date, in a sense that it's not a weapon of choice against heavy Russian armour. I've only seen Ukrainians use RPG's against "softer targets", in situations where they need a bit more bang, but where you wouldn't want to waste Javelin or even NLAW. I'm not sure how I feel about Carl Gustav though, it might produce too much of a bang behind the cannon to be useful in very urban environments. And might be more dangerous to the firing team than to the target. But I guess we'll see.

One man with $100,000 in equipment can defeat 3-5 men in a $1,000,000 tank. Given the additional cost savings of reusable launchers, and the value proposition shows why tank vs tank battles should be avoided by Ukraine. Limited number of supply routes that Russia has to stick to and their main objectives are all in major cities making it easy to ambush tanks with shoulder fired missiles given the congested environments. Save the tanks to protect only vital locations where there is not sufficient congestion to make a soldier more effective than the tank.

I have shot both. Javelin is a beautiful rocket louncher. Probably the best in its class, but Nlaw is significantly more universal. Very easy to learn, lighter and more compact. Lacks the distance Javelin has, but you can hit directly from a close distance. Perfect for close city fight.
@lihisluikku2 жыл бұрын
Yeah Javelin rocks for open fields though. Like you can really reach out. Usually tanks feel safe when watching over long vast open fields. Using thermal optics to detect other vehicles, and with a gun to reach out to many kilometers. Javelin missiles kinda fuck that safety up, giving the infantry a chance to fire from decent cover and while rivaling the tank's maximum effective range, while also not exposing much of themselves.

Gratifying to know that the Anglo-Swedish NLAW has helped the superb Ukrainian soldiers hammer the Russian armour. Sweden has sent 5000 NLAW missiles. Well done to the US for sending Javelin, UK has sent them as well. The US has invested in the Ukrainian military capability since 2014, spending best part of $2 billion. Britain and Canada both had military training teams in Ukraine until very recently, they were in situ for 4-5 years training the Ukr army. The assistance from the US, UK and Canada appears to be paying dividends. The problem is NLAW are ineffective against the modern integrated countermeasures and they're running out of Javelin operators; its a pretty sophisticated piece of gear and at this point about 90% of the Ukrainian Army, was a civilian yesterday. Overwhelming amount of missile shots have been NLAW and the overwhelming number of attacks have been artillery bombardment. The videos are all edited up with 1 and 2 second clips stitched together to only show good hits, but they've been destroying entire neighborhoods and even small towns with artillery, shooting at anything moving on the roads. Again, this is because most of its manned by people who learned what artillery is the same day they started shooting with it. From the propaganda you'd think Ukraine is getting nothing but net and taking nothing but civilian casualties. The reality is they lost about 90% of their overall military capability in the first 72 hrs.

The obvious defense is to pop smoke to conceal the tank, and while the Ukrainian tank killer teams are waiting for the smoke to clear, drive the tank all the way back to Moscow. Why aren’t the Russian tankers using this obvious tactic? Are they suicidal?
@jensonkiin36782 жыл бұрын
@@MarcosElMalo2 They'll have had a very hard time even knowing they'd been targeted until they were hit. The NLAW can be fired prone of from inside buildings, it uses inertial predicted line of sight (no IR laser or other detectable tracker/target acquisition), it has no smoke trail and very mobile (allowing AT teams to very quickly redeploy). Finally, the relatively short range (by design as a close support AT weapon) and high subsonic velocity means that the armoured vehicle recipient has very little reaction time. The missile is also fire and firget, can't be jammed and so nothing short of an active defence system can stop it. All in all, the NLAW is almost the perfect light ambush anti-armour weapon.

Interesting video, I learned a lot from it, thanks from Germany. I truely believe that Ukraine has a chance with their brave soldiers, militia and civilians, aswell as more weaponry and a decent amount of foreign volunteers with combat experience being on the way. And it seems to me that this mix, now soon to be bolstered by more weaponry, more Ukrainians joining the militia from the border and some foreign volunteer veterans helping out, will make it very difficult for Russia to conquer the Western part of Ukraine. It may even be enough to turn the tide in central Ukraine or prevent a capture of Kiev.

Some of the reports I've seen have Russian losses at: 198 tanks 840 APCs 29 aircraft 29 helicopters 5,700 men. It's not just western supplied weapons Ukrainians are using to such effect. They have the local Stugna-P ATGM. And plenty of RPG-7, 22 and 26. And they're pretty fearless in using them.

Funny how no one realizes that Ukraine has been in war with Luhansk and Donetsk for over 8 years for no reason, killing their many citizens: but when Russia steps in to help (after several warnings given) and finally protects Luhansk with Donetsk from UA, its somehow the bad guy and everyone is "glorying" Ukraine. NLAW is an absolute beast. Its basically a cheaper, fire-and-forget Javelin with an ACOG for sighting. Obviously the main trade-off is range, and a slightly smaller warhead. Still works against Putins shitty BMPs though.

Javelin and NLAW are a great help to Ukrainian troops, however, we have our own systems that work almost as good and we have lots of them, Stugna is just one example. What we are currently missing is surface-air systems like Stinger not to mention complex systems like Patriot. To suppress russian air domination

Reactive armor is obsolete to modern ATGMs like the Javelin because they have a dual warhead. The first (small) warhead takes out the reactive armor, the second (main) warhead hits the naked armor.

Some of the footages feature NLAW. It's a highly effective anti-tank with dual (direct and top) attack modes. It has shorter range than Javelins though. In an urban setting like in many important parts of Ukraine, I think NLAW will be more effective. West should should supply Ukraine with more of it. It's cheaper, lighter and more suitable for Urban fighting.

What's the difference between direct and top attack modes?
@tolitsdterrible47852 жыл бұрын
@@fredswolen894 Direct is when the missile will hit where you are aiming at which pretty ineffective against heavy armored equipment like a MBT. Top attack is when the missile will fly above the line of sight and explode at top of the target vehicle. It's effective against MBTs as their top is the weakest and least protected.
@brilobox22 жыл бұрын
@@fredswolen894 the Javelin top attack involves actually flying up and then coming back down on the thinner top armor, the NLAW does a funky thing where the warhead detects whether a turret is beneath it using optical and magnetic sensors, then fires the explosively formed copper lance downwards as it passes over.

I've been thinking that there have been very few POW tankers shown, yet, and when they are it's in one's or two's. Also, by the look of them they're the surviving drivers of javelin struck tanks.
@maddogpham98152 жыл бұрын
The Javelins has a 2miles wired optical video which allow the soldier to guide the missile to its target, that is why it has high hitting percentage and leave no smoke trail, so it's very hard to spot the shooter. Made in USA! 👍
@andrewsutton70072 жыл бұрын
Wire guided? Javelins use infra red guidance are fire & forget?
@TheGeneralWorldofTanksReplays2 жыл бұрын
No - the Javelin has no wire guidance. The missile is updated by the launcher and once fired, it is self-guiding to the target. The Javelin operator can seek cover immediately the Javelin has left the tube and does not have to guide the weapon at all. The guidance system is so clever that the missile seeks an altitude hundreds of feet above the target and then dives onto it for the top armor attack when it sees the target at the appropriate angle. The missile can also shoot at a target in direct fire mode so it can attack helicopters and aircraft. The operator selects direct mode, captures the target in the launcher window and then fires and can seek cover to load a new missile. The missile will fly direct at the target by sight - and by doing so avoid a top down dive through the blades of the helicopter which might deflect the missile and cause a miss. The wire guided missile is either the TOW or the Milan. Both very old, but with upgrades available. The big drawback is that TOW and Milan require that you keep the target in sight so that the missile can be guided by the wires that spool out behind it.
