So glad I found this. My parents were both in the Canadian Infantry. My mom I'm unsure of how many yrs she did cuz she got out when I was young & never talked about it. My dad did 25 yrs and only retired cuz he was forced due to a knee injury. It gutted him. He NEVER wanted to retire. He had worked his way from the bottom to Chief Warrant Officer. His Career meant evrything to him. After his retirement he started gambling and then his marriage to my stepmom crumbled. It was the breaking point for him. He left a note which had said he lost his family once before (his marriage to my mom) and he wasnt about to have it happen again. He hung himself in his garage. Sadly, I found out that in the same yr my dad killed himself 7 other military personnel from the same small mostly military town had taken their lives as well. This documentary is helping me understand my father a bit better. I thank the creator and all the BRAVE military personnel who came forward to shed a light on the scars we cant see. The sadness & chaos inside that torments these poor souls. We all lie underneath the blanket of freedom they provide us but exclude them from being able to truly enjoy these freedoms also. They're so tortured mentally that just existing is exhausting. God Bless Y'all I am soo sorry for all the horrors you've experienced. I promise to do whatever I can to help change the way you are all treated. I thank you for your service and your sacrifices. Sending lots of love & respect from London Ontario 🇨🇦 PEACE

@@Ripper7620 The use of hallucinogenic substances under clinical guidance for treatment of PTSD/anxiety/depression is currently being studied by the VA. As a therapist now retired (my career was spent working with VietNam vets-not the VA) as much as I wasn’t a fan of pot I had to conclude eventually marijuana *did* indeed help many of my patients without the deleterious side effects of many of the psychotropic meds historically prescribed to this cohort. I do believe the VA will eventually routinely use these far more widely than currently. There are clinical studies regarding the use of hallucinogenic drugs currently being conducted through the VA. For the vets who are interested, please contact the closest VA and find out where they are being used and how to participate in these programs. No one should suffer needlessly and alone.

When I was 20 In 1989 I joined the US Army as a Canadian citizen. I had lived in the states since the age of five and the U.S. provided great opportunities for my Dad who became far more successful when compared to his peers. I wanted to show my appreciation to the United States by serving the country which I loved so much. My father warned me not to choose a combat role if I were to join, as Saddam Hussein was threatening Kuwait at the time. I chose to become a tanker and I trained with the M1-A1 Abrams tank. I loved that machine and the men I went to basic with. I was shipped off to the most Northern part of Germany and I settled into a exhilarating life while making lifelong friends soon turned brothers. We were notified of our unit being chosen to go to serve in the Middle East . I arrived in Saudi Arabia on New Years Day 1991. The next thing I knew I was waiting and waiting in the middle of the desert for war. I was in a unit on the front line and saw and did many things that I had some PTSD from. When we got back to our Post we were never asked if we needed help with our problems, we were left confused , angry and untreated for mental issues. Pretty much all of us went wild with our alcoholism which was already getting bad pre-war. Nine of the men from my company failed a piss test for weed and were summarily put on 90 days of extra duty and were kicked out dishonorably. I was glad I didn't give in to temptation but I was a full blown hardcore alcoholic by now. Needless to say our morale had reached new lows and even the NCO's didn't seem to care anymore. Still no help for our plight, just training and drinking were on the agenda. The years after the war were filled with risk taking behavior and drinking. I could care less if I died much of the time and I partied harder than ever. I had major guilt knowing that I had killed many men by driving over them as they rushed into bunkers and our tanks main gun killed many a tank, truck, APC and men. I drank away the pain of thinking about their wives, children and parents pain of loss. I had a good life by 1994 as I met a woman who loved me and helped me through my PTSD and alcoholism. Though my experiences kept haunting me and suicide was on my mind for many years however. I'm glad I'd never purchased a gun when I was younger. I survived the war but I have suffered for it. I feel so badly for the families of the men who can't take the pain and choose death over carrying on. God bless you all and I hope you can find some peace with your loss. Each of us combat veterans experience so many different things during wartime or combat situations. Some men can kill and be fine when they get home trusting the theory of "It's me or them and I'm going home". Others can't take the pain and use alcohol drugs and or behave in a manner unbecoming to push people away. If you know a veteran and you care for them listen to them when they need to talk. Talking about my experiences was key to my healing. I've even spoken in front of high school classes of the darkest things I've seen during my war. It was hard to talk at first but it was great to just be heard. If you are a vet suffering from PTSD I highly suggest that you stop bottling things up and speak to a trusted family member or military brother/sister. People will listen most of the time. I pray for your peace when I am asking God for my own.

God Bless YOU SON You deserve better s do all Young men women that give their lives for their country . I know all to well of the suffering my own son was in The parachute regiment Para 1 then later the Elite British SAS . As a young soldier he served in Northern Ireland and saved the lives of two police men .when Two men dressed as women came up behind the Policemen and as they got near They got out Knives and my son and a Lance corporal was patrolling the streets and saw this . incident . My son raced to assist the police officers punched the one attacker in the face knocking him to the floor , stabbing the other one in the foot with his bayonet , He looked around for his pal, he was still stood on the opposite side of the road . with a look of utter shock on his face . The policemen one about 52 had his throat split open but not the main vein the other a young lad of 18 , had stab wound to his back but his belt took the brunt of it . My son did not hesitate and the Lance Corporal . had a breakdown after the incidence . he was no coward as my son said . he was in such shock he was literally rooted to the spot could not move even when the incident was over . It was NOT a war like Iraq In Northern Ireland . but patrolling the streets on day night duty was terrifying knowing a sniper could kill you or a bomb . My son received a bravery award . but like most soldiers . thought nothing of it . . and just wished he had got across the road a bit quicker so he could have stopped the older policeman having his throat cut . But the training in the British army is like no other . and It is cruel ruthless and a strict regime . and many young soldiers . at first find it hard . and you get hard bitter young me joining up because they can do nothing else so they bully others that are doing better than they are . As a family we were horrified what went on and very little or nothing done to stop bullying . and someone attacking you because they believed someone had looked at them wrong / Not many men ladies come out of the army unscathed . they are not taught a trade so on leaving the army they do not know what to do where to go . manty are suffering NOTHING DONE . They are OUR HEROS > THEY ARE OUR COUNTRIES HEROS EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM NEVER MIND THEIR GRADE . Most Soldiers believe that the General Public Never think about how they suffer . how they defend our country . and our people . The shocking thing is the wages . My son was paid less than a traffic warden . what qualifications do you need to be a Traffic warden . No I am not doing traffic wardens Down . but to think they are earning more than a Highly trained soldier makes me feel sick disgusted . America sees their men as gun fodder . Same as Britain Europe in WW1 sending thousand s and thousands thousand of men to their graves . I say to ALL YOUNG MEN DO NOT JOIN THE ARMY FIND A TRADE > EARN GOOD MONEY > YOU ARE ALL HEROS JUST FOR BEING IN THE ARMY > BUT TO GO TO WAR THAT AMERICA . ALL TO OFTEN CAUSES ,BULLYING OTHER COUNTRIES . . SUPPORTING PAYING MILLIONS OF DOLLERS PAYING FOR WARS IN OTHER COUNTRIES eg UKRAINE GOD BLESS YOU ALL THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING YOUR DEAR PRECIOUS SELVES ON THE LINE. REMEMBER EACH AND EVERONE OF YOU YOU DO COUNT, YOU ARE LOVED , YOU ARE BRAVE., YOU ARE OUR HEROS ,

Wow i can honestly say that this is one of the best documentaries about war that ive ever seen, and thats saying something. What i found really telling about this doc compared to a lot of others that predominantly focus on the actual battlefield was just how fucked up the military treats these poor men and women once they've come home. The fact that people are literally killing themselves because they are traumatized and are being threatened with prison time because they have a moral objection to murdering innocent people really shows you where the upper brasses priorities are... Like that one veteran said they literally just see these soldiers as "products" to be used up and disposed of when they're no longer useful. Thats fucking shameful. America really is a beautiful country with a lot of great qualities and incredible people who call it home. Unfortunately its also a place that is synonymous with violence, greed, intolerance, oppression, exploitation and more and more willful ignorance. I wish I could say that it seems like its problems are getting better with time but im pretty sure the opposite is true, and at an ever more alarming rate.

Were like Rome was. We have our client kings. We have our trade networks. Citizens on the dole. Christ saw Rome from the perspective of a citizen of a client nation with a Roman military police presence presence. Trouble makers were rounded up and executed. That created more trouble that warranted an eventual Roman take over. America has largely gone in, stabilized and moved mostly out leaving a base behind in the defence of that country. In history, thats unprecidented. In return we get trading partners, first dibs. Stabilized supply sources. Part of the problem is the changing presidents. Every 4 to 8 years a new administration comes in. Okd deals are out. Its not like dealing with Putin who stays Putin. But maybe its also like a gambling casino. Every 4 to 8 years, you can play lets make a deal all over again, looking for a better deal than you had. With Putin, once he's mad at you, he is always mad at you. With America, you have a fresh start to build a new relationship. We do seem to demand loyalty still. We look the other way when funds are diverted from the people into a bad leaders personal bank account. Now we are in competition for allegiances with Russia and China. We need to be better to compete. We need to up our game and provide real help to emerging nations. They are going away because they cant fully trust America to be good anymore. Look and listen. Our leaders are without humanity. Psychopaths are the last people to know they're psychopaths. We all need to learn how to identify them and their behavior characteristics and stop them from doing their heartless work. We need to stop them from dragging us into do it for them because they are so good at pushing our emotional buttons and getting us engaged to do their dirty work. Dirty work is it! If your doing someone's dirty work for them, they are a probably a psychopath. We need to stop listening to them. We need to stop following psychopaths.

In 2005 I was stationed at Camp Lejeune N.C and one day in the morning, there was a commotion down the street. There was a side road with a lot of tree's and as the sun comes up, someone saw a body hanging from one of the trees. I believe he committed suicide bc he had PTSD and didn't want to deploy again. There were a couple rumors of course, and some said he was bullied, some said he was getting kicked out of the Marines, but I believe he didn't want to deploy again bc he had mental health issues. The suicide rate is worse when the men complete their service and they don't have their buddies around, and then you add in PTSD and possibly substance abuse.....it's a recipe for these things to happen. ** If your a Veteran and you are dealing with anything at all, please reach out to any other veteran. It truly breaks my heart to see the hardships that many of our military personnel had after coming back from Iraq. I spent twelve months in Iraq from 2004-05 training Iraqi Army soldiers. I feel so blessed and honored that my my time in country was a positive experience. The nineteen months my Army National Guard unit was mobilized away from my family was one of the hardest things I ever faced. Thankfully my faith and sense of humor helped the time fly by. Additionally, having my job waiting for me once I got back was also a big stress relief. My wife and I watched this documentary together but l was the one with tears rolling down my cheeks. Everyone had that uncle or grandpa in their families. The quiet family member in the easy chair that was never seen celebrating or talking yo anyone,.. just quietly drinking lots of booze. The old timers numbed the pain with alcohol. The new generation of soldiers numbed it with lots of opioids and benzo’s. The VA was very good at giving out dangerous scripts instead of real care.

Fort Hood is where Lt. Jackie Robinson was court martialed for refusing orders to sit in the back of a bus in 1944. He was found not guilty, but was honorably discharged from the army. They did him a favor. Lt. Robinson's outfit was sent overseas later and they suffered heavy casualties while serving in Gen. Patton's 3rd Army. Ft. Hood has historically been a hell hole.

My grandfather's brother was Paul Laverne Bates, Commander of the Black Panthers, Jackie Robinson's unit, he put his neck, rank and possible curt martial on the line in defense of Jackie Robinson & the bus fiasco at Fort Hood. Black Panthers had an outstanding record of service in Germany. Even though the bigots & racists at that time didn't think Black folks could fight, Patton took a chance on them & my grand uncle, The German "master race" soon learned how formidable and lethal the guys were. the SS feared the Black Panthers like no others and The panthers did some serious damage showing incredible bravery whever they fought,, It's a shame though these guys were treated like 3 class crap while in the service, and got the same treatment when returning home from that war. My father was a Marine in WW2 serving in the south pacific for the extent of the war, Insane losses his guys took over the years in all those islands. Hacksaw Ridge was a movie made about one of those battles he fought in,, though only a hollywood movie it did depict much of the trama and loss. My father had a bad case of PTSD though that was not a diagnoses or term until he was near the end of his life He had a split personality, at work i heard he wasthe nicest guy, At home as a father he was a pissed off gunny, a drill sargent jerk, no humor and he didnt drink either just a workaholic with a mean streak who hated being questioned about everything that he didnt know anything abou in life. At 16 i moved out of my parents house, mostly to get away from my father and his expectations , IHad a full time job, Finished high school 1 1.2 years early and graduated with a 3.8 gpa, At 13 i knew i didnt need mommy to do my laundry or cook my meals. or need daddies weekly allowance for mowing his grass or washing his cars or cleaning his swimming pool. By 15 i had l already been thru boot camp, and knew that life had no real future of happiness for me. I feel for these guys who get so beat down that they drink themselves to death then take themselves out.. or scarier yet, the fat guy who wasn't suicidal and admittedly said he wanted to go out and kill happy people. He needs some serious help before he does snap and becomes a mass shooter.

I have no idea why these young heroes are doing this? I personally tried many times to end it. Every time I was revived. I suffer PTSD from a traumatic event in my life at 29 years old. I drank like a fish and led to becoming an alcoholic. I was drinking 2-3 5ths of vodka a day. For like 6 months straight. That didn't kill me either . I finally had a moment of clarity between two ticks of a clock. I can't keep drinking like this when I'm a father to 10 & 2 year old. I opened a brand new bottle of vodka and dumped it down the sink. See I never drank when I had my daughter on weekends until she went to bed. And even then I'd only have a couple. I've been sober for 21 years and come Feb will be 22 years. Between AA and counseling my life has gotten so much better!! Until recently I was diagnosed with cancer. Even then I haven't drank. I wish all these soldiers could experience what I have? Bless everyone of them ❤🙏. If you want to be sober that's all up to you? My youngest has never seen me drink and as long as I keep doing the right things she'll never see me drinking!!! Young adults/teens need a different option other than military to pay for college or to make a living. It still doesn’t solve the PTSD/mental health problems our soldiers are returning with after their tours. There has to be a way to help them if our gov’t has to intervene in foreign war/conflict.

What is horrific is thst, often those same ‘wars’ are instigated covertly by Western Governments in order to seize control of those countries and their resources but putting a spin on it in order to ensure that their young healthy and fit men and women, go willingly to fight, wrongly trusting their own Governments - then returning home broken on the wheel of spurious wars. It is their own governmentd that are often their true enemy. It is the entire system that needs to be broken - and not the lives of these young people which is criminal irresponsibility.

I live in Malden MA and we have a lot of veterans from the older wars. When you see them you can just tell they’ve been through a lot! I’ve seen young men missing both arms and legs, one time I picked up a lighter one of them dropped and handed it to him. I can still see how intense his stare was, idk if he wanted to kill me or if he was going to break down crying because he couldn’t even pick up a lighter. I kind of look like a Muslim so idk what it was. When I was younger I just thought these dudes are idiots for putting themselves in a pointless war. Now that I’m older I realize most of them don’t have any other options. It’s not rich kids going to war because they love their country. It’s the poor kids who’s family doesn’t have much who goes to war. It sounds great to someone who can only get jobs that barely pays for your rent. I’m 35 now and I’m thinking what if I joined the Navy like my uncle told me to. Would my life be better now or would I be all messed up. Who knows but I have a lot of respect for these young men. Life is hard enough as it is, imagine waking up to the thoughts of your friends dying every single day!

A man named Gary Craig invented a counseling method called "Emotional Freedom Technique". He made it free to learn. Eventually, he made Gold Standard EFT. He applied EFT to helping veterans, you don't even have to talk out loud about what you went through, so there is no security risk. In a very short time he had remarkable results. There are direct and indirect ways to look at severe incidents. It should be taught so that troops can constantly handle things they go through as well as to people as EMT's , medical staff etc. that deal with crisis situations.

Because they come home to a VA that refuses to recognize traumatic brain injury and calls them weak for having psychological trauma after seeing things we can’t imagine. Because they come home completely different and unable to turn off the adrenaline and we expect them to get training and get a job and be “normal” but they have to fight the military for months to get the job training they are owed. Because we sent them as children to war before their brains were even finished developing. Because the army throws antipsychotics at them and tells them to have a few beers instead of treating injuries and ptsd and acknowledging that they are human beings. And…when all of the family asks the VA docs to please take their threats of suicide seriously, they hand that broken human being back his weapons and don’t even keep him on a short mental hold. He loses his wife. He has no connection to his own children because he’s been away for 19 years before he finally met that roadside bomb, he hugs his dad one last time. He tells himself we are all better off without him. And he’s gone. A year later his 19 year old son commits suicide. His father has been reduced to a shadow of a man, who doesn’t know his other children. Who rages at the slightest stress. Who is about to lose the rest of his family. His young siblings all struggle with ideation of their own. His mother holds all of it together while wanting daily to lay down and never wake up. But she can’t rest. She has to be ever vigilant, given the changes his death has caused. His death will be felt for generations to come. No Anthony we are not better off without you. We are annihilated. All thanks to the filthy apathy of the VA. After that the greedy apathy of our politicians and their voters. All in the name of money for the rich, who never have to wipe the blood off their own hands.

I remember a colonel's wife saying to me, "This place is worse than the Philippines."Even then it had a high suicide rate, at least high for that time and place. What you must understand is that Fort Hood is located in one of the most desolate places in the United States...it had to be so that the tanks could churn up the environment without doing economic damage. The town itself is godforsaken and BORING. Most of the soldiers had to go to Temple (30 miles away) to get liquor by the drink. (The town elites of Kileen had their own private club where they could get liquor by the drink.) Every payday we lost a car full of soldiers on the road coming back from Temple. There really isn't anything that can be done about the place except to SHUT IT DOWN.

I spent my whole childhood fearing the draft- because the WW2 vets told me “don’t throw your life away on this Bull…t” These guys were truly messed up. They drank themselves to death. So- I paid attention. At the age of 10 I realized that America would lose the Vietnam War. When America went to Iraq I knew America would lose. Afghanistan I saw the same. I shoot Steel Challenge every Tuesday and Friday with Vietnam Vets. One was a high ranking officer. He puts it this way, “We were kicked out of Vietnam. And Afghanistan. We did not choose to leave.” Since I have been aware of that all my life- I am also aware that America left those countries in worse shape than when America arrived. I am haunted by a bumper sticker I saw in 1972. “Join the Army. See the world. Meet Interesting People. And Kill Them” Soldiers slowly realize they did not serve their country. They did not help anyone. They just killed. They believed a terrible lie. And did terrible things. A decent person finds that impossible to reconcile. There are people in this country that promote forever wars. Because they make money on forever wars. Here is what I know- War is when your government tells you who the enemy is. Insurrection is when you figure it out for yourself.

People should also stop telling military personnel and Armed Forces combat veterans. Thank you for your service because you have no idea what these people went through and to just wave them off with the simple thank you for your service is bullshit slap in the face. How about you get to know them, talk to them ,asking how can you help?

War should be our last resort. We should have never been in Iraq and Afghanistan. But most politicians don't think about the things these men and women have to go thru.

To think that we pay our taxes to do this to our young men and women. My father returned from WWII a broken man, never to be restored. He died at 52, penniless and drunk. This is unjustifiable.

War sucks... Edit: The part about cleaning up hombres brains and not knowing if it was a piece that remembers their childhood or getting married having kids etc...that really hit home! I mean that's a lot to ask our young heroes to forget about and move on....idk what the answer is.... stop fighting senseless wars would be a damn fine start tho

I served 12 years as a Combat Engineer in the Army, including 28 months in Iraq, over two deployments, 2005-2007. I lost friends in Iraq and I have lost friends to suicide and I’m glad to see people paying attention!! However, please vet your sources Better! If we are going to hear some supposed Soldier(around the 15 minute mark of the video) talking about taking a sniper shot to kill an innocent woman and her child…can we at least see his lying face?! Because I can guarantee you he is completely full of dogsh*t!! Sounds exactly like something these Stolen Valor cowards come up with….and did he kill them both with one shot, or did he reengage to get the baby?!😂 I mean…give me a flipping break!! Flipping scumbag….don’t know what he has to do with Veteran suicide?!?

The early 2000s was a different time for young minds after 9/11. Of course these wars were meaningless in hindsight, but at the time, people thought they were going over there to truly defeat evil. Everyone was still pissed off after 9/11.
