We have local ranchers in Missouri that claim to cut out the middle men by butchering and selling from their location. Their prices are 30% higher than the grocery stores. Something else is happening that no one is talking about.

Sounds like ranchers need to unionize and agree to sell at the same prise in a given area (like salmon fishers). But that could be a challenge. The culture is very individualistic.

I've had cattle for 60 years and I will keep enough for me,it sounds selfish but the people have had a chance to get behind the small family farms and they only want to buy from the Big producers.in the future only the people with money will eat real meat in the cities.

I'm torn on this one. Obviously I want the cattle ranchers to have enough money to live a normal life. But the meat industry going down because there isn't a new generation of ranchers coming is a good prospect. Cattle ranchers should get supported but simultaneously, there shouldn't be a next generation of cattle ranchers for meat production. Both things should be true.

Packing plants cost tens of millions of dollars and Rachers don't have the capital to do that. Best thing we can do as consumers is educate ourselves and buy as much as possible directly from ranchers.

Pray for the cattle ranchers the corporate stores are also helped by ebt sales , high mark ups , counterbalancing drug addict, or career criminal customers who are shoplifting without reprimand as well, due to lawyers who are able to sue stores if we try to stop someone from stealing claiming they were hurt or abused

Another *possibly* interesting note about beef prices, eating meat is the cause of the THREE LEADING causes of death in the developed world! Cardiovascular disease, cancer and (T2) diabetes are all caused by diets high in meat (and animal products)
