Why are Bloomburrow Singles so Cheap?

Alternate view: In order to get people to accept play boosters, they artificially juiced the first few sets... surveil lands, bonus sheets, BIG score, etc. to justify the price increase. And now Bloomburrow is the end goal they wanted the whole time... higher base pack prices for selling what are essentially the same draft boosters. Over the course of a year, they have slowly transitioned draft box into play box being exactly the same, except you are now paying drastically more and getting fewer individual cards. This is just plain simple shrinkflation, not some grandmaster stroke of genius.

Bait and switch. Many people see it for what it is, but too few choose to vote with their wallets. I loved the red wall books as a kid and was prepared to shell out for this set but saw the pricing and EV and did a complete 180. I will take the money I intended to spend and buy the singles I was hoping to get.

I think this and bloomburrow not having many "staple" cards that can be shoved into multiple decks. You got the lands and patchwork banner, and outside of that it's pretty limited, everything seems to be internal to the set.

I have been saying the same for months, glad someone else is also seeing through this. Their argument of merging set and draft boosters due to "too many products and SKUs" is a joke when they are also releasing beyond boosters and now "value" boosters. 🙄

I have a tradition of buying a prerelease pack for each of my toddlers so someday (maybe) they’ll have some ‘vintage’ cards to open. I have the last 15 or so releases packed away. Rethinking that based on an 80% price increase for each prerelease pack…

No joke. out of more than 300 cards in thr booster box i opened, maybe 5 are going into my decks. Maybe 10 legendary creatures in the entire box, no plainswalkers, no notable mythics. I may never buy a booster box again after getting burned by both assasins creed, which was a weak and small set to begin with, and now this overhyped set.

It's high synergy, it felt like modern horizons once your board got online, prerelease had some absolutely crazy boardstates. I get it but I think l people will come around eventually

My own hot take to counteract your own, but what makes Magic better than other trading cards in sales, is that it’s a playable card game before it’s a collectible. When value is the selling point of a product, you end up with sets like Double Masters where it feels like we as a consumer is being used for money. I think Magic going back into its roots and making it a fun, affordable way to play (especially with such a cute set!) is the PERFECT way to bring us back to Earth, and remember why we love this game so much. I want to emphasize that I don’t mean to bash on the secondary market, I actually have a business there myself, but even we support sets like Bloomburrow because selling sealed product is way less risky than selling singles. These products are SELLING. Store owners like it, the casual player likes it, and the only people who should be against it are those looking to get lucky from packs (not sustainable) and those who whale out and buy hundreds of boxes. Wotc just learned that they don’t have to appeal to whales to make a profit. This is a GOOD THING, and if we had every set like this, with a summer collectible set every summer, this company would be in a much much much much better place

This was my set for the year and WotC DESTROYED the set with its greed. As someone that actually wants the entire set this time, buying a box is a waste of money when I could get the the entire set for much cheaper. I won't be buying any more Magic product.

@@ashemabahumat4173 dont really get what you mean. Boxes are around 130-45, for what used to be a 90-110 value. How do i have "more money" toward sealed when im spending more on the same or less. And your suggestion that "actual players" dont also collect or i guess open sealed is silly. Why would being an actual player mean you should want less cool stuff in a set, or less value for what you are spending? People freaked out when video games went up 10 bucks for the first time for like 15 years, and yet mtg players are supposed to be happy paying an extra 50% of the total cost for essentially the same quality of product (which unfortunately isnt even consistent, half my box had foils corners crushed in the exact same pattern, likely from loading or sorting machine in packing.. you can feel and see the fucked corners even through sleeves so you cant technically play them. i just have 19 garbage foils.) And im not saying its bad for those who dont buy sealed, but acting like "real players" dont buy sealed is ridiculous when theres a format centered around buying and opening packs is ridiculous. How does everyone get their singles if everyone stops opening alltogether because theres maybe 3 pulls in the set worth $10+ and like 8 at $5+ TWO DAYS BEFORE OFFICIAL RELEASE IS HERE..

Brother old sets had playability and cards with value, a 30% card to box value is a joke. Mtg has upped the price of a box and given less value. This will just allow them to up the collectors box next. Don't foll yourself this is bad for the game.

I bought some single for paper commander, in arena I bought 0 pack (free to play) and I have the gold to buy it. I don't like the set, art is fine but the power is not there. I keep playing my mono black and my golgari.

In fairness those are not the cheapest versions of those cards and are highly unlikely if not impossible to come out of the play booster - the box that the majority of the community interacts with. My focus here was that the singles in the play booster don’t come with a ton of value - yet the set is still performing incredibly

Even 110. My local stores are at 140 and 160. Juicing the packs is an issue, it creeps standard hard. So your other knob is price. These are back to being draft boxes with the drop chance chances, bring the prices back to draft box prices.

got a Sylvan tutor at pre-.release, all the rest of the cards combined don't make half of it. but I'm happy Af with that beautfull card, don't even had to sell it fast as its price could only raise in time.

As a ex yugioh player this set got me interested and into magic due to its synergistic feeling. That’s why I picked playing/collecting yugioh for so long because of decks based around archetypes and card synergy. I am approaching this set with that in mind. I’m hoping I will find some cool combos and synergy with strongly themed bloomburrow decks :)

Going from draft boosters and set boosters to play boosters came with a price hike for draft and sealed games. Now that the number of rares per pack is going down as per the Bloomburrow release (which is provable with only 1.5 percent chance for what used to be the list card slot), as well as the number of alternate frame cards going down (none that are common or uncommon), there's no real reason for the price to stay this high. They're basically play boosters with 1 less common. And an added foil card, I suppose. For the people that like to collect pringles. I'd even go as far to say that the collector boosters are taking a hit with only foil commons and uncommons. No alternate frames for the non rare cards makes it really boring to look through that second half of your collector boosters pack.

Well I pulled a raised foil yesterday baylen the haymaker sold it got a none raised foil version and 97 in store credit payed for the pack and still walked away with a baylen for myself. Can't wait to go back next weekend and use the credit to help pay for my birthday box ❤❤😊

It's a standard set, the cards are good but mostly specific to tribal synergies, lots of people are cracking packs leading to lots of supply, and finally commander decks are canabilizing singles sales. Buy a commander deck, it's already good to go, you may only need 1 or 2 cards from bloomburrow.

This is the healthiest trend for the hobby and the cards as finance guys are the only people who lose. Stores sold boxes, the product is moving from the primary sources and the community is engaging with the actual game. Expensive cards are expensive because nobody bothered to buy the set and scarcity is driving up demand. Bloomburrow should keep happening if we want magic to keep going. Cards should naturally become valuable over a period of decades because of obscurity and time from the last print, instead of artifically through distribution and manipulation by Wizards. The game is better when they act like the secondary market doesn't exist.

I agree with u to a point. My issue is the chase cards are now that much harder to get because now they are collectors only (majority ik but still). I want to pull those new mythic out of an affordable booster. Doesn't need to be special art either. Ex. 2 boxes and 3 pre rerelease kits I still did not pull Maha and those that did (from anywhere at lgs) were held for their one friend. Only I think 3 people pulled it. This to me is an issue
