Why are Expats leaving Spain?

The term expat irks me.Everyone else is described as a migrant.I am an economic and meteorological refugee who obtained sanctuary in the Valencia region before Brexit a thing I have not been back.In UK I rented and would have struggled.Here I enjoy a cottage on the edge of a vibrant small town that is green all year with orange trees.The river is clean and safe for bathing.People are friendly and if needed there is a doctor on duty in the clinic 24hrs a day.I could go on but suffice to say I would not even change planes at Heathrow.

It shouldn´t irk you because there is absolutely nothing wrong with the term expat whatsoever. An expat is an expatriate. ´ That´s all it means. A person who lives outside their native country.´ All migrants, immigrants, refugees etc can also become expats, though it may be that when they initially arrive in a country other than their own, they may have had circumstances other than those of an expat who has had the money, job, resources etc to be able to fund their travel, living expenses, and so on. It may that they have had to come to this other country due to persecution, war, and difficult/desperate circumstances, but at some point, they may be able to get jobs and look after themselves and their families in the new country and contribute as well and then they could be considered to be expats, but expat usually means that you have the means and the choice to move to another country because it suits you for whatever reason such as climate, cost of living, and so on and not due to desperate circumstances such as war persecution, abject poverty etc. The word migrant is the one that I find to be problematic and even derrogatory. It´s only in recent times that this term began to be used, mainly by people on the far right to whip up anti-foreigner sentiment around the time of Brexit to serve their own political agendas.

@ Fair points.Having overstayed my USA visa in the 1980s I was an illegal immigrant for a few years.Being white I got away with it

Good one Shaun. Most of the people I know of who moved back to the UK did so to be closer to grand children

Interesting as always Shaun, top man.👍 We just had the kids and grandkids over for the last week. We did so much more quality of life in that week than we could have done stuck inside the UK house trying to get the kids to behave in their boredom while we wait for decent weather to do some interesting stuff outside. One week's memories are probably beyond what we could achieve in 3 years back in the UK.

Hola! Mister ingles 😂 me alegro verle tan activo y positivo. La sartén de España, Andalucía ,está entre Sevilla y Córdoba . Una vez estuve allí y creí que me moria😂 salimos corriendo... al anochecer 😂 Uff! En Murcia también hace mucho calor. Yo soy de Barcelona y no es tan fuerte el verano. 😊
