As an employee who got laid off from one of these 'Well Funded`,`Hyper Growth` Ed-tech companies. I must say your analysis is absolutely spot on. The in-organic customer acquisition along with low profit margins is what is digging the grave of these companies along with the fact that social media ads have gotten much more expensive during/post pandemic due to a high surge in demand (since more and more people are going online). Also such companies have no 'business moat' because they dont bring anything special to the table (compared to personalities like prashant dhawan and aman dhattarwal) so someone can easily undercut them if they have deeper pockets.

I think the success of PW was because of two reasons- 1)The price disruption (first course was launched at 999rs,and now courses are at 3-5k per year) before that no one had that price point 2) very strong person brand because of emotional connect with students as he taught free on yt for 3 years before that when no one was teaching.

I hope they do go down. I've come across so many people in tier 2 & 3 cities being mislead and getting into contractual obligations and in-turn hurting them financially. And internally, the Business Development Associates being under massive pressure to deliver their targets and they resorting to unethical practices to lure in targets. This has to stop! But it is very rare to have doubts if you are studying from them. Their crash courses are almost free for high performers . If you need question solving material then you can either buy their material which is 6k or you can buy/ download resonance material since both are same ( since teachers are from resonance ).

I have personally worked at byju's, extramarks as well as unacademy ...What have I realised in all of that experience is that these people considered the students as clients and the leads as parents.... they just calculate how much money they can drain out of the parents in order to make their student any "better version" of themselves... that is literally impossible to achieve because they just are there to sell their products....and after they are sold we were told to just f*** off...and Not handle students problems...Because of the weekly sales target...you have to focus on the next one....And the next one...And So on... Its a vicious cycle...which hardly has any benefits for the students...Only further burden and Utter confusion because of the plethora of books and study materials.

I have used both PW and Unacademy. I can confirm Alakh sir and all other teachers really cares for students. You can feel the connect. Where as Unacademy has mix of teachers where some cares and some not. And surely both produce quality content much better than offline.

Completely relatable video. Being a MBA entrance exam aspirant, have followed the edtech space for a while for CAT coachings. To be honest, I feel the KZbin channels, coachings that operate through facebook, etc. are doing better than big players like Byjus, mainly because their overhead expenses and CAC might be less than Byjus and they offer cheaper & good quality content. In the end, you forgot to add Think School's name while mentioning about Study IQ and other channels 😅. Even you guys are doing an amazing work, great business / geopolitical content everytime, now it's like I wait for your videos every Tuesdays and Fridays.

Lot of equations change once you are funded. Biju’s was also built on personal brand where Byju used to take CAT coaching classes in a rented auditorium. If you dig unacademy you’ll find similar stories too. Most of the Edtech’s had the humble beginning. Problems came with the funding and the unrealistic scaling desires.

Brands like PW, apni kaksha will always succeed due a strong word of mouth advertisement (considering they also adapt to change). Also students have seen their journey from the start, and these people have gained so much trust from the students. Each student recommends the course to other people. Also the people who started the company were themselves teachers, so they know everything about the industry and the student's problems. One more thing noticed in unacademy and byjus is that they offer so many teachers that the student just wastes time in just selecting a teacher. Yes options are good but not much. Also people have claimed that the teachers leave in the middle of a course, so the students are left hanging in the middle of their syllabus. These companies treated students and parents as a customer to aquire money, and not merely just as a student.

I took one course from BYJUS due to my college I was unable to give much time to the course .... They never called me or gave me guidance ... Only I used to call and it remained one side study .... Unacademy gets a lot of bad reputation for seemingly no reason.... Its often clubbed with byjus, but tbh Unacademy has always been playing honestly..... I started studying from their coaching KZbin channel back in class 8 (2018) since I wanted to study class 11.... And not only I was easily able to understand concepts of class 11… I also got a self assurance that things might not be as complicated as they seemed because the teachers were always supportive.... Now 4 years later the edtech industry has changed a lot, new players are coming into the market but still the Unacademy KZbin teachers are teaching with the same passion as they used to..... I don't watch their channel anymore since I bought PW lakshya batch but those 2018 times will always be something that will come to my mind when I think about Unacademy....

True, people say unacademy bad and stuff. But they teach so good. People like these watch first lecture and leave saying its bad. Probably the reason why first lectures of playlist have more views.

Unacademy has done many such things so that no one could reduce his business, due to which he has dropped his reputation (like buying teachers of other institutes). The intention of "PW" is to give education to the children at a low price.

@@pradhumnverma2139 True, Unacademy has a bad record for fair competition. Blaming the works of officials on platform is also not right I suppose. Unacademy is high priced but pays off if you know how to use it. Whereas PW limits you to the course you've purchased which makes sense. PW does a good job at providing content at cheap prices, we shouldn't forget that they're making money not helping atudents for free. Channels like mohit tyagi, physics galaxy provided free content for almost an decade yet somehow PW somehow claim credit for giving it free for first. Anyway we must not waste our time to defend edtech corporate anymore and study hard perhaps.
