I just put sword on order from them. I was told it would be 4-6 months before it's ready, however, the estimate was months less than off-the-shelf sword from malleus, or sigi forge, or Albion. Maybe I'm just unlucky but most of the European sword manufacturers that I've used have lead times that are 6 to 12 months. Very excited to get my hands on one!

Good morning Mathew, and thanks for a great video! Been a follower/subscriber for more years than l can count, and this is probably the first video that l can sit down with a cup of coffee and finish the video - and the coffee - at the same time! Bought some used swords from you via ebay a few times many many years ago. Love your videos and your approach to the products that you test and comment on.

I remember buying their off the shelf $267 DH unokubi zukuri back in the good old days. From China to my doorstep in 10 days. Quick edge touch up and strop and shes in my top 10 sharpest katana i own. Steel has held up to me beating on her long before i became a decent cutter. Had Adam do a custom tsukamaki on her. I've also gotten the opportunity to cut with Karl's deep sori (1.5") katana. That was well made and very fun to cut with.

Matt, I completely agree on your take of Huawei. I tend to buy katana in the $800-$1,000 range, and would place my Huawei swords at or above my Cloudhammer, Shadowdancer or even my ZSey, in terms of both tsuka build quality and their blades. The fittings are a bit simplistic, but well done. Their copper habaki are the best I've ever seen. Highly recommended to all if you can get one. My three Huaweis can't match my Kaneie though, with an even higher quality finish and some usable niku. Keep up the great work!

Since it’s not easy to get a Huawei, what other sword would be your top pick if your budget was around $300?
@WhatIfBrigade4 ай бұрын
Sounds like they need to hire a good customer service rep. Lots of high quality manufacturers have slow delivery times. Just need to a hire a person who makes the waiting fun by proactively sending you updates of where your sword is in the process and some fun corresponding behind the scenes videos.

Oh yes! Very good swords. My 9260 unokubi from them is one of the best cutters I've ever had. Love the lack of so-hi on the unokubi. Tsuka shaping, mount quality, tempering. All very good. Got lucky and bought before they got expensive. Only paid $260 CAD ($200USD) incl shipping. It's not perfect, but way above price point. Holds up better than 51CrV4, takes a fine edge, and cuts like a goddamn demon! Excellent stuff, man.

Also, Matt, check out my best cut : Freestanding Paper Difficulty Lvl 8. Got that cut with the Huawei 9260. Not a lot of swords could pull that cut, and only got it on my best day.

I bought one early on before there was a waiting list. I spent about $380 if I recall correctly and was very impressed with the quality. Not as good as my Evolution Blades sword but not far behind and easily my 2nd nicest sword.

I have a Hauwei 9260 that I got about 4 years ago. We had just got done deer hunting and were butchering our kills. Decided to try cutting them down with it once we harvested what we could. The edge was fine cutting through the neck of a small buck I shot, but rolled terribly on my friends large buck while cutting through the spine of the beast. This was a big deer and the spine was probably around 5 inches thick. The blade sailed through, but the edge was damaged pretty badly. I love these swords, but I'm going to get something DH from them next time.

Huawei used to be great until they started getting backlogged by like 2 years and refunding people just for asking where their sword is

How's that make them "not good" I would be glad for a refund vs. me never getting my money. It just sounds like they can't keep up with demand.

I bought a practical elite a month ago for a tameshigiri seminar for my dojo. ( I live in Australia and managed to find one from "War Sord" in Queensland). It's a nicely put together Katana, nice weight and Balance, well up to the task of tameshigiri. A nice sharpness, and I only give it a light sharpen before the seminar. The only thing that stood out was the transition from saya to handle was huge, but it is a wide blade for the purpose of cutting. Overall, I was impressed 👍

Siwode, on Amazon, offer a decent product in the $300-ish range. They were popular with a "walking dead" replica sword in T10, but they offer several decent swords. I'd love to see a review!

Agreed on what makes HuaWei good. The TH unokubi they have is $229, and the DH unokubi is $298. Looks like your TH has a different tsbua than their current listing. I saw somewhere recently that Jacky (HuaWei's rep? owner?) said they are currently making around 3-4 katana a month and are struggling to be able to produce more.

I feel blessed to have a Huawai sword. The only thing I did not like, and hence changed, was the Tsuba. Mine was sharp edged water jet cut and ugly. The rest of the sword is top notch, I even got a custom rattan saya when I asked for it...that was 2019. Now...I do not even get an answer to my mails and I told them I would want to a buy a top of the line sword this time.

Well TBF the Huawei phone company are 'good' too. Dutch experts with atomic microscopes and ties to ASML; say Huawei by 2021-22 had their own novel 5G modem and are producing SoCs on chinese native 7nm+ silicon from SMIC, bypassing past reliances on TSMC. Funny thing is I hade a Huawei phone almost a decade ago and hated it, but a lot can happen over a few years in China, A LOT to Washington's chagrin. Huawei Swords do look lovely and well made for the price btw, shame about the availability, but given the unbeatable price no surprise.
