One more thing that the system failed to acknowledge is that a majority of students does not rely on their parents/family 100% financially. In fact, my friends who are still in college are supporting their parents. I myself suffered tremendously but experience adulting has been gained so no complains. I’m just sad that my parents have to keep giving me allowance when I didn’t get any work because they themselves are farmers and sells vegetables and freshly caught fish in the morning markets. Now that I’ve completed my internship, I’m looking for a monthly income wage but the pay of RM1500 minus epf + socso in the end only goes to grab, ptptn, uni debt, rent and so on. Can’t even save up any money or help my parents at all. I envy fresh grads who do not need to take care of their family’s welfare.

I have to agree that most of the Malaysia local industry is stingy in paying a good salary. I end up working with oversea companies that setup here with better salary few years ago and now working remotely in Malaysia with a Sweden company with 3 times higher than the salary I have here in Malaysia due to payment in USD. However you better be ready to have a competitive and up to date portfolio to get hire by the oversea companies.

In Malaysia, you have few options to make a 'great' living: 1) Be your own boss, do business online 2) Work oversea (eg: Singapore) after you graduate, then save money to retired early or do business in Malaysia 3) Find a remote job from overseas which pays you in USD, while you can work from home. Most of the IT jobs can work remotely 4) Be patient, give yourself 10-20 years to climb the ladder in the corporate world 5) ....

Option 4 no longer feasible. World's changing at very fast rate & some 20-30 years old guy can become MD or CEO. Experience meant little nowadays, often those who are older with higher salary has higher chance of getting the axe if the company chose to slim down the operation. Even profitable companies often use "slim down/going lean" as an excuse to rejuvenate their companies. No more ladder, nowadays if you're talented you use lift.

Becoming the cook at the local restaurant with only SPM certification on can even earn more amount of salary than the average one for the fresh grads like mentioned in this video. In order to avoid from misunderstanding, pursuing the further study is not wasting the time. However, during the pursuing the students should investing their time to learn any skills even art design from zero or nothing and gain some experience from starting a small business so they could know how to earn extra money along with their main job or as a backup career. For those who are graduated, believe me it’s still not late to do it so, just start do it when you have a chance of time like free time or holiday. Bro it isnt so simple just to simply increase minimum wage, there are many factors to consider and the impact it has on the economy if inflation continues to rise and cost of living is high and stagnant. Supply and demand. A large portion of our economy depends on SMEs which are struggling due to bad economic downtimes now. You need to open your mind to the bigger picture. What you re doing is just comparing in your head large companies/international companies to impose the minimum wage but you forgot who the Malaysian's MAIN economy providers are, SMEs.

@de0509
@de0509 2 жыл бұрын
May I add one more point that seems to be missing from the discussion here? Changing jobs strategically. Theres this one guy who grad in engineering. Get salary 2k basic and then over the course of 3 and half years, he gets RM300 raise and 300 allowance (RM600 raise la). Then one day he switch jobs and almost double his salary from before. Changing job is seriously more lucrative than offering loyalty. Changing jobs isnt merely disloyalty. Its also sharing of new techniques to implement in the new company. Theres so much knowledge in the world, changing jobs once in a while lets people know you have a lot of skills, learnt from multiple organisations. And always make sure to enter a job from a position you can bargain. If cannot tahan, do not quit and only then figure out how to find another job. If you cannot tahan, you still have to tahan just for a while more WHILE looking for a job. Your bargaining power comes from the would be employer knowing youre not coming to beg for a job because you already have one. And most importantly, do not ever accept the counter offer from the current job. If they want to give you raise they can do it one year ago, and now they can mark you and try to throw you away. Plus, you being able to tahan shitty job is your selling point. Being jobless is red flag. Theyre not gonna give the opening to a currently jobless guy thats potentially gonna resign after 5 months simply because they can offer that jobless guy RM500 cheaper than you. Plus, (this is logic la) they wont offer you same salary with what your current salary is now. They have to entice you to jump to their company. If old job RM2k new job offer RM2k, whats the point. Its not like the recruiter too idiot to understand this. Id suggest for young people, 2 years between jobs is logical. Once you 40 something then job hopping not a good sign la. So between 20 and 40 you can afford to hop between 10 different companies la. If everytime you hop you get extra RM500, thats like extra RM5k in your salary la (and thats with assumption one job hop gives you extra RM500, in reality could be more). Imagine now your salary RM2k and someday it can become RM7k. I know people who gets a RM50 raise every year. Peanuts weh. Hes actually losing money to inflation. Dont be this guy. Job hop, but strategically, while learning unique skills along the way. Theres only so much that one organisation can teach you. Thus, go out and "merantau" while youre still young. Good luck guys

Previously, local talents were shipped to the Europe office and getting "Europe salary rate". Then the company thinks it is cheaper to just form a local company and hire local employees and pay cheaper using Ringgit even we are doing the same jobs as our European's counterpart. You can see this happens with other MNC too. But I don't know if it is fair since we are doing the same jobs and serving the same overseas customers whose paying in Euros.

Not only it will be the future of high demand career with big pay, it will give you alot of value when running your own business. For those wanting to restart their career for better income, I strongly suggest get into sales.

Choice of courses offered doesnt match with aspirations of candidate who qualify under the quota system. A cousin siater of mine got a course that was literally taylored for SPA management. Can? She didnt listen to my council that she is better of taking professional certification rather than just look at a degree. She, along with most of her Malay coursemates who graduated in managing health Spas are today regretting the fact they wasted 4 years doing that stupid shit. @@amaleyganja6418

The sad truth behind Malaysia economic condition. At my small family household income level, I still feel like there's not much room for improvement for our kids future. Always hovering at the back of my mind, how on earth people could live with the minimum wage level at this point in life. Those who are new to the labor market, I've always push them to try and find opportunities outside our local market. It's just too damn saddening.

About 20 years ago when I took some part time job while I am pursuing my degree, I can earn around 1300-1500 per month. At that time, a roti canai cost around 0.60, kopi ais around 1.20, a pack of cigarettes cost around 7.00. 20 years later today, our minimum salary in Malaysia is 1500, a roti canai cost 1.50, kopi ais almost 3.00 and a pack of cigarettes almost 20.00. When a country poverty line was at 2298 with a minimum salary of 1500, it's not surprising at all 70% of Malaysian live under poverty line. Malaysia has undoubtedly fallen into another "Corporatocracy" country, and of course with additional of long history corruption from top to bottom until today. I never worked a single day for Malaysia corporate after my graduation. After 10 years working oversea when I come back to Malaysia, I did try to submit resume and got couple offer. What they offer were about 20% from what overseas country can offer me and the interviewer looks very proud of what they consider as "High" and even said will regret if I don't accept because it's senior management scales. This also explain why there's a report recently show that Malaysia are famous for exporting "Talent". Of course someone can argue or giving an excuse because of foreign exchange, that's why you earn more overseas. Most Malaysian post graduate gets about 2500 on average and it's about 2-3 times lower compare to a lot of country. In fact, you still pay around RM 20 for McD or Starbucks regardless of the so-called foreign exchange rate but you earn way more compare to Malaysia. If this kind of broken system continues in Malaysia without any changes, there's no doubt the rich will get richer and the poor will become even way more poorer. Malaysia is stuck at cheap labor system as selling point that works very well during the industrialization era 30-40 years but not anymore today.

Study Master, get a job overseas as ROI from Malaysia sucks. Just RM2,800 a month for Master where you spent years and thousands of thousands ringgit oversea. That's why Malaysians started their business. And also always look for a foreign international company to work as they pay more than kopitiam knowledge local company. Any lucky local who got into the foreign company will stay for very long if that company going to be stable in Malaysia. So no chance for others. As for digital jobs, don't waste your time and money in the Uni system as their teaching method were too old to catch up with the ever-changing new technology. Get into good overseas online like Team Treehouse and Design+Code. Do up a few personal projects and off you go to look for a job. Nowadays a lot of open-source software to use for free.

Let me ask for a while,which company of Malaysia can paid RM20000++ for the fresh graduate employee.I am absolutely say no. Compare employers/business owners high expenses to Singapore. Plus the "grease money" often needed for them to get things done, projects approved, stop the authorities from hassling them for no reason. Business owners often face this : authorities from fire safety department, environment dept, telling you that your biz needs various permits, and that you don't comply to x y z requirements based on their illogical interpretation of the books. They yearly come inspect and tell you you need to install super expensive automatic fire shutters for each window in your factory OR if you let some consultant friend they know to draw a plan of your factory for rm15k they can magically approve and deem you comply. Or you own a shop and they come to say your products need lab testing, and they take several boxes of your chicken essence and other good stuff etc, load it up their truck and never hear from them again. These are all too common everyday stories you hear from msian business owners, and basically their business regularly bleeds money.

Raw materials, parts manufacturing and agriculture industries are either controlled by foreigners or struggling to maintain themselves, making the inflation even worse. High tech industries are also mostly foreigners, leaving no technologies and resources to Malaysia. People rushing towards higher paying servicing sectors, but they are the least productive industries (can you grow food by just talking on the phone?) and acts mostly as administrative functions. Keep living like this, Malaysia is doomed. (Haven't started with the latest IPCC report, Malaysia is definitely dying)

My first official job which i left back in dec 2021 offered me RM1,200 during probation. I am a degree holder in hotel mgt field. Probation is supposedly 8 months but in my 4-5th months, my one and only senior in my department told the HR that they should've just make me official before i angkat kaki. Hence i was confirmed and my salary was RM1,500. Do note that these digits i'm mentioning are *without* *deducting* *epf* *and* *savings* *AND* *responsibilities* . I didnt bother consider spending anything on myself and i would feel SO BAD and wasteful to actually treat myself even to this day. Hotel and tourism, dont get me started. everything mentioned in this video mainly revolves in tourism. Do you guys even know how imbalanced the pay and work of housekeeping? I did my internship and was placed in that department because muslim women wearing scarves *cannot* be placed in frontlines. (at that time. idk about now. I heard its more allowable depending on hotels). Witnessing fellow colleagues working quadruple as hard, resulting you to a long term body pain especially your back. Most of these people are around young. What my lecturers said were true, this course is the last choice in your list of choosing the courses you'd like to learn in university. A LOT of related-field graduates *did* *not* end up in the industry because we were all well aware how suffering it is to stay. Those who pursued further would usually become lecturers .

My new job now is more stressful and depressing but at least the pay is better and im staying for the ever-changing episodes this job offers + very helpful colleagues + and ofc the salary. Not to mention we need bigger pay to find a house, car, etc.
