patek have high auction results because they send people to auctions to make sure they don't sell below a certain price. its a known thing in the industry and all the big brands do it but patek is certainly the most agressive

This works the same way as limited edition cars. You produce limited edition of something and sell it only to those you find to be collectors. Collectors aren't those guys that actually collect stuff but actually resellers that have a deal with company they are buying goods from that they won't sell it in certain amount of time or for less than at least a double of its official resale value, making the prices skyrocket and demand to go up while supply remains limited. That is a proven way to sell your stuff at much higher cost than its actually worth. You know when you see a new limited edition lambo or a ferrari, they don't even get built and are already preordered and sold in advance. Yeah right. That is just a way to make artificial demand to boost value of you regular products from which you actually earn most of your income. Thats like diamonds yeah demand is high and supply is low but try selling one you have and you won't get half of the market price if you even find a buyer.

Because it was about vintage watches, and because the topic of discussion was the incomparable Patek Philippe brand, it must be remembered that this brand, which started from jewelery production, introduced on the watch market an invention, currently used by most watches in the world, namely the mechanism for setting the time and arming with the crown. Until then, the clocks, which were usually wall or table clocks, were armed with a key. Patek Philippe facilitated the fitting and arming of the mechanism by hand.

I agree 100%, I see people now days buying a watch and barely touching it. Then again, I also see individuals who would pay more for a watch with a nice "worn out" look. basically a nice patina. I also disagree with this. at the end of the day, to me personally, what makes watch collecting so dan fun is, in large part, the intrinsic value each watch carries. you get it new, and along your lifetime as well as the watch's lifetime, each scratch... each and every scuff should tell a story of the many adventures one has been on with his/her watch.

Antoni Norbert Patek coat of arms Prawdzic was a Polish nobleman. Antoni Patek took part in the "November Uprising". He was wounded two times, he became second lieutenant of the Augustow Cavalry, and on October 3, 1831 he was decorated with the Golden Cross of the Virtuti Militari Order (to this day it is the highest award in the Polish Army). He was Polish patriot. He fought for Poland's independence. He would certainly not want to hide his Polish origin.

Patek may be technically superb but a lot of their men's watches look too delicate. I would be scared to wear one for fear of knocking it. And in the real world the movement cannot be that much better than a JLC, Zenith or Lange..

There are two things missing in Patek Philippe watches though, things without which I don't feel comfort and serenity. These things are 1) battery 2) tunning fork shaped quartz crystal vibrating at 32,768Hz. Okay, I can also have solar powered cell, or kinetic movement charging the capacitor, but I definitely need quartz in my watch. If there's no quartz, I feel conned by the corrupt greedy watch dealers :)
@stuballs429 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Piatek Sorry you may feel that way about mechanical watches ,but for me the wind up mechanical watch is still the best! Modern quarts watches are indeed more accurate , but most are not worth repairing because the repair cost more than the watch may be worth. A GOOD mechanical watch ( wind up ) can last for years, and parts are still available when it comes time to repair it. A watch with the name of Waltham, Elgin ,Bulova , Hamilton, etc. still are some of the best American watches ever made !. ps. Watch brand names mentioned here are NOT the new models ,but watches made in the 1920 through the 1950 es.

+TheWATCHES.tv yes i find both LANGE and PPGC (patek grand complication collection) to be the best , both are very well finished , timeless ( wear it a century in the past and a century in the future , it will be normal ) , both also can be found in a medieval european castle , However , i feel that patek is recently taking a very dangerous direction away from these traditional values , look at those monstrosities from the so called Nautilus collection ? absolutely ugly , Lange will never have those , if you want a diver , go for a Rolex , but a REAL watch from a REAL brand should be the medieval one i discussed . out of Lange and PPGC i have very few watches that interests me , i have to say , my favorite complication is perpetual Calendar , i have narrowed it down to 2 watches , Patek 3940J ( a PPGC member , Prestige , finishing ) and Glashutte Original Senator Perpetual Calendar black dial ( king of legibility for a PC , less prestige and finishing but very cheap , only GO i like ) , what do you think i should get ? i care also ( not mainly though ) about price retention , however , for a Patek it NEEDS to be either extremely rare &/OR unique &/OR extremely Complicated for it to keep its price , all of which i feel are non applicable for the 3940J , What do you think ?
@watchestv-com8 жыл бұрын
+Mina Kamel Yes, you're probably right, though it will always keep some value and one has to remember that PP produces more than 70,000 watches per year, so only a small portion of these retain and/or better increase their value...
@minakamel66838 жыл бұрын
+TheWATCHES.tv EXACTLY , only an extremely small portion retains value , and then there are those vintages , i once saw perpetual calendar only complications from them, pre 3940 , extremely legible ( month and day in windows , date in place of small second, very clean uncluttered dial ) , however it turned up to be in million dollars or just south of it a bit ,,,,,shame patek stopped producing those legible PC , when the only legible one they produce is coupled with a minute repeater and tourbillon and costs 900K$ ( 5207P ) ,,,,, your channel is great by the way

Patek is the haute horology equivalent of Rolex. They experiment in terms of engineering, but rarely do they change design. And thus, the watches they produce are timeless aesthetically, yet relevant mechanically. This is also why I will never be a Patek or Rolex man. Their resistance to creativity and dogmatic conservatism mean that they will never produce anything that really harkens back to a time or era (other than, maybe, the Henry Graves Supercomplication). Vacheron Constantin is, arguably, the only one of the "Holy Trinity" that continues to push boundaries and make designs that set themselves apart. AP has seen fit to sit back and coast on the laurels of the Royal Oak. A. Lange is as dogmatically conservative as Patek and Rolex. JLC and IWC are primarily relying on throwbacks to older models. And, even the futuristic Richard Mile has stopped innovating in terms of design! Only Vacheron has continued to show that making history requires making bold decisions. That is why their 250+ years of horological history makes them worthy of the title "best watchmakers."

Geez... you type so much yet knew so little. Rolex, however famous/innovative/historical is not on same plane of existance of Patek. One of the indicator is price. Another is availability of any models of the brand. Furthermore, A. Lange only established after the fall of Berlin Wall. However exquisite their watches are, surely not on same plane as well. I don't know whether you are a snob or a knob......
