Searches on the internet asking "Why Are People Leaving Florida" are trending up. This begs the question, is it really that bad?
It's no secret that more people have moved to Florida over the past four years than to any other state besides Texas. But why are more people than normal deciding to leave Florida?
Is it the cost of living, climate, weather, insurance, property taxes, politics, education, and culture?
Today, we'll discuss why people move to Florida, why some are forced to leave their homes in the Sunshine State, and why others are just choosing to leave.
If you're considering relocating and buying a home in Florida, we'd love to guide you through the process.
If you're considering selling your home and leaving the Sunshine State, know you're not alone. And we would love to be your real estate team of choice.

@@ent1311 HOA fees and lot rent that has no limit. If you buy a condo, the HOAs have come up with astronomical fees because of insurance and improvements they neglected. You don't pay and they take your property. (Thank you to Rick Scott for making that possible.) Many of 55+ communities seem affordable, especially the manufactured housing, but the lot rent is already over $1,000 / month with no limit. You are better off being a snowbird and renting for a while. The Republican Florida legislature does nothing because they are too busy making "morality" laws.

No fire sale and it is far different than 2007/2008. WHY, because condo fees have doubled and tripled, insurance costs have gone through the roof, repairs and reserves on most buildings are out of control so no real estate agents are willing to say that if you think you need $1500 a month then double the money to meet all the other expenses so you actually need $3000. I had no mortgage and I was priced out of my condo just because of the huge increase in condo fees, insurance, repairs, and taxes, huge. Just moved to Europe at 73 years old since USA is out of control.

Lived in Florida from 1962 to 2020, when I relocated to another state. I will never return to Florida! It was once a truly wonderful place to live, not anymore. As for estate tax the IRS tax only kicks in when an individual leaves $13 million+. Just check the state you want to move to, to see if they have an estate/inheritance tax. Florida is too crowded, roads are like parking lots, people have grown increasingly nasty, taxes and insurance costs are ludicrous. And frankly after all those years I got tired of preparing for hurricanes every year and yes, I went through way too many on the East coast. Took my state paid pension, Social Security and 457 account and am enjoying spending it elsewhere!

I left Florida (Tampa Bay) 4 days ago after living there for 27 years & only regret not doing it sooner. Jobs & pay suck, housing crisis ignored by state government, cost of living has skyrocketed despite said jobs & pay, sweltering summers that seem to never end, hurricane anxiety (Category 4 & 5 are the new normal), worst drivers in the country, perpetually angry people, outrageous insurance (home & car), toxic politics, proudly ignorant & outspoken population, Ron DeSantis….how many words/characters does KZbin allow in the comments section?

You hit the nail on the head with the 80% increase in home values since 2018. In Pinellas County, you can't find a decent home for under $300k. Couple that with flood insurance, and it's not worth it for most people. Those who come to Florida and think the beaches are clean and empty find out quickly that it is crowded as hell, especially on weekends and holidays.

I was born and raised in Kissimmee, FL. I left in 2023 because I was tired of the heat and humidity 7-8 months out of the year, flat swampy boring landscape, hurricanes driving up insurance costs, and no seasons whatsoever. Besides the amusement parks and nice beaches literally FL has nothing to offer in my opinion. But even those two things become overrated when you’ve experienced it your whole life.

I have seen sellers drop their ask by hundreds of thousands of dollars in some markets. There are extreme problems in Florida where home owners insurance is concerned. I own part of a small infosec company based in Cape Canaveral where I spend anywhere from a few weeks to a few months a year so I am very familiar with Florida. I have two things to say about Florida; only rent, don’t buy. If you buy, make sure you are not catching a knife.

First, we lived on the east coast, Boca Raton, but then fell in love with the Gulf Coast and, therefore, relocated to Tampa Bay last year. @@trulivingtampa I know there is a lot of value in Anna Maria. It's very unique in a lot of ways and extremely beautiful. I guess by reasonable I would say this: I get the market has gone up since covid. But I feel it has peaked. There are many houses 3, 4, 5 etc times asking prices / values of 3 years ago. I think that is unreasonable. Yes something is worth what someone will pay for it. But imo it's not realistic of actual value. Maybe we won't see big reductions in asking prices (would be nice tho), but maybe cash will become more and more valueable and have a little more power as time goes on. Some prices are just not worth what they ask. Time will tell I guess.

I can’t wait to move to Florida! The biggest question is when. I’m hoping to move before retirement… which is 8 years. We have 10 year old twins. I’d like them to go to college in Florida. I heard you mention an article about Florida having #1 colleges. So my husband asked number one in what? Do you have a link to that article? I know there is a great college scholarship program called Bright Futures…. Unfortunately they changed the requirements and now you need a 1350 SAT score. Ugh!

I relocated from Atlanta to Suwannee, Gulf coast big bend area, I live on a canal and my back yard is water and a boat house, The natural beauty and wildlife in this area is amazing. Juan is very accurate with this podcast. For me 300 days a year of Sunshine carries a premium I will pay, Also living on the coast is a constant breeze, so the humidity is tolerable, vice say Orlando. Suwannee is a remote fishing village and there is very little traffic, schools are very low end, Cost of living is above average. All things considered you are going to have to drag me out kickin and screamin.

@@trulivingtampa being born and raised on Long Island and living North of San Diego now plus many visits to Florida I think all the beaches are nice. I don't think you can really vote one over the other . Out here they don't want to do anything about crime but in Florida they have more crime. But the fact I can carry kind of makes that okay. Our groceries are cheaper but your gas is cheaper and you have no state income tax so that's good. We have no humidity but I should be able to re adapt to that. So if I could sell my place now and going to the Retirement Resort here I'll stay here if not I'll come out there and buy a townhome cash that I won't have to keep driving the truck 60 hours a week I could get some little old job. I don't think you understand what the word "freedom" means. Having your state government limit what a woman does with her own body and what you can read is not freedom. Also, your governor just slapped that word onto his anti-marijuana program offering more evidence this term means something else to many Floridians.

Lot of BS youtube clickbait titles with no data to backup (thanks for your early spoiler about your title, i almost stopped listening 😂). The people leaving are ones that never became established OR cashed out on the amazing equity and are moving to spend that money or take advantage of that equity elsewhere. If you sell here you are just replacing that equity in a similar home with higer interest rate. We are blessed to live where others vacation. LfG!
