The lakes are amazing here. I don't mind the heat but I know it's not for everybody. At least we have places to cool off and it's dry heat vs humidity.

Sorry you feel that way. We don't attend but because of the different traffic in/out, and the mega volume of attractions it brings in, it does have a factor in supporting the economy i.e. the airport, local businesses, and whether somebody is opposed on the church or not, it's just facts.

People move to nice city > State DOT turns it into a sprawl-y dump > People move to next nice place.
