That's actually a great point, I've never thought about how people see it like a sports team thing. Dear foreigners, Let me explain something about American politics. Whenever you get a "first Black [X]" elected to a given office, the next person to hold that office is usually the white candidate who is perceived to be the most racist. Thus, the 2016 Republican presidential primary was a competition to see who could be the most racist, with the winner very likely to also win the general election, because racists who normally don't vote come out to the voting booth in great numbers on election day in this circumstance. What shocks me about the 2016 Republican presidential primary is that none of the other Republican candidates seemed to understand that they were in a competition to see who could be the most racist. This is surprising because Republicans are usually very sophisticated about using racism to get elected. Either Trump was the only candidate who understood what was needed to get elected, or he really is more racist than the other Republican candidates and didn't bother pretending otherwise. Anyway, those who voted for Trump will always see him as the "great savior" who rescued America from the "shame" of having a non-white president. Trump voters will remain loyal to him until they can no longer vote for him, and they will always see the Democratic party as the source of their humiliation because Obama ran as a Democrat. We Americans are really bad about saying this stuff out loud because, well, most of us are more racist than we realize. Denial tends to obfuscate things.

@@Shinobi33 Interestingly you don't substantially disagree with or object to any of the things I accurately pointed out. Mainly, my contention is that the man has always evoked a deep cynicism and that the quote cited regarding the malleable nature of "truth" should be considered with that idea firmly in mind. Any statement about truth from a man who specialized in dissembling truth as one of his primary tools in life, while perhaps insightful many levels, needn't be regarded as an insight about the nature of truth. Clearly that point eluded you. As for your request that I find you an honest, truthful head of state, that's a bit of an odd non-sequitur given that I made no claim that such an animal exists. As for your condescending use of the word "kid" thanks for the laugh.
