The RPG-7 also fires 82 mm mines from an 82 caliber mortar. The mines from the mortar are twisted instead of the usual RPG-7 warheads. The landing place and the thread of the standard RPG-7 warheads were specially unified with the thread on the bottom of the 82 mm Soviet-Russian mines. Sorry for my English.

Why do Americans assume RPG stands for rocket propelled grenade. It actually stands for Ruchnoy Prototankoviy Granatomyot or handheld anti-tank grenade.

Seriously....."Why are RPG-7 so popular".....I take it you never military served in a USA or European country. If you did that, you would know know that the RPG-7 gives the individual soldier his own personal 105mm-class short-range artillery weapon. Given that modern battle fields are dominated by armored vehicles and artillery of all types. Where as the 5.56 X 45 NATO rifles are useless against them. Far heaver weapons are critical to staying alive. RPG-7 can do that for 5 rounds which is what the average soldiers can carry. It is better than nothing, which is what the M-16 / M4 is.

Thanks, but the RPG7 does NOT lock onto anything, it is an unguided projectile weapon, thus the name, rocket propelled grenade launcher.

If I wanted a weapon with which was lighter, far more accurate and had far greater range with more ammunition variety I'd pick the latest Carl Gustav, the M4. If I wanted a weapon that could penetrate 67% more Armour (over 1m) I'd pick the Panzerfaust 3. Panzerfaust can also be fired in doors unlike RPG-7. RPG-7 is cheap, that's all.
