My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer have lower volume number than Naruto, Bleach and One Piece, but if we go more back in time, the 3 most popular titles of Shonen Jump in 90s were Dragon Ball which had 42 volumes just like My Hero Academia, Slam Dunk with 31 volumes while Jujutsu Kaisen (if really the current arc is finale) will have about 30 volumes, Yu Yu Hakusho ended with volume 19 which shorter than Demon Slayer 23 volumes. So these series are not very short compare to other popular titles of Jump from different eras.

Personally, i believe it's great that so many anime series are ending, it'll give more space to new stories written by different authors to get popular. All i hope for is that the authors get the ending for their stories right and we don't get another "Great story but terrible ending" situation during this time period.

but tbh, series like Naruto or One Piece have a deeper lore and really fleshed out to its highest potential thanks to the long running serialization. it cement them as a Legendary, instead of one of many. and people still talking and have a discussion about it. 15-25 volume manga is just not enough for worldbuilding and explain all of the lore. nowadays, we live in a work life balance society, people no longer strive for greatness, Ambition is dead alongside with Attention span. therefore i have little faith on the future, they won't be able to produce something as great as the past long running series, because people demand for shorter, instant gratification series maybe it sound wrong, but, self sacrifice is necessary to become one of the greatest. if you don't put part of your soul into it, what you feel just won't come across to the audience

I think it’s a natural progression. If a story is truly complete and not just filler, there is nowhere to go. In MHAs case *Spoilers*, the story has been dragged out as far as it can feasibly go. Every lesson the author wanted to have has been taught, all of the narrative points are wrapped up, the main bad is defeated and the world has shifted how it is meant to go. In my opinion, it’s better to end on this high note than take the Naruto approach where you just add random elements that aren’t foreshadowed, and ruin the prior established integrity of the show just for the sake of more chapters.

Another great example comes from the same creator. When Hiro Mashima wrote Fairy Tail, it ran from 2006 to 2017 during the height of the Big 3 era. It outlasted Naruto (ended 2014) AND Bleach (ended 2016). But when he wrote Edens Zero, it lasted from 2018 to 2024, not even 300 chapters. It's his shortest series ever, even more so than Rave Master. Now, Fairy Tail: 100 Year Quest, the sequel series has a much stronger argument for still being ongoing than Boruto because it's literally the same characters all doing something like moments after the OG series ended, but even it's reaching its final arc.

I see this as a win, honesty. Big anime like Demon Slayer getting towards their end will give a chance for other anime to shine. It's all too often we get banger adaptations that come out to just not get enough recognition. With bigger ones out the way like Demon Slayer, One Piece & MHA, other anime will be able to garner more attention with the spotlight not constantly being on the few biggest shows; especially One Piece. [Disseration warning ⚠️]: Now anime is as big as it in the west now, maybe gen z and even the generation younger than them (my nephew is in that generation and he loves DBZ, so I assume one day he'll get into anime) will explore anime properly instead of just following, like, the 5 biggest shows per year and that's it. For me, Hell's Paradise is a good example. It's a Shounen anime and it's cool af in my opinion. I thought it was the best shounen to come out in some time, but for some reason, it was slept on. Maybe it was overshadowed by other anime, I can't remember, but I just wish it was more popular, as we'd probably have another season by now. Plenty of great anime exist, but good shounen seems to be hard to find these days, and it's no surprise why. To anime fans that watch all sorts, they tend to avoid shounen as its tropey, but will still watch the big ones, and people that keep up with the biggest shows will just watch the biggest shounen anime on the go & that's all. Then, even some non-anime fans will keep up with one shounen they may have been convinced to watch. I feel this is why the top shounen shows do so well. I feel like the anime industry is going through a weird phase where it doesn't have a status quo of what's popular within the actual anime community. Whilst shounen is popular, it's not as popular as it used to be, and only pulls the numbers it does due to non-weebs watching these shows and boosting the numbers. Then you get about 15 new trash isekai every season that's completely oversaturated the industry (maybe 5-10 of them a year, that are new, will genuinely be good). Then, as for the unique, great anime like Made In Abyss, Undead Girl Murder Farce, Call of The Night and genuinely good romance anime etc, which there's plenty of demand for from people that keep up with the latest anime, for some reason, they just get slept on so hard, and idk why. I just wish studios would put the effort it takes to make 3 trashy isekai anime into a season of something great & unique. In fact, I'm actually really happy that Dandadan is trending at #1 on so many places right now, it could be a sign that people are waking up to more options. The great thing about DanDaDan doing so well is that it's a really weird and whacky anime, it's not something a lot of people that keep up with the latest top anime would usually watch, so it _could_ start something new. That and the last two shows that really popped off bot being isekai shows is a win too (Freiren & Dungeon Meshi).

Well honestly filler is good depending if it's made well. If it's some random side quest that does nothing to build the characters I would call that bad filler. If it does build on the characters it's good. For example dragon ball z has some good filler tho also some bad filler. It's a mix of stuff so I think what anime companies should do is make a long anime with filler and that stuff and then make a shorter version which is just the original but cut up not reanimated but cut up like dragon ball z kai

Having an ending and executing the ending well is crucial! Writing a conclusion is the hardest part in writing. Next, difficult is just beginning the introductory paragraph. It’s hard ending a story because not only do you have to remember key points that happened in the story, you have to closeout anything still open and the ending you create have to make sense before coming to a complete stop! It hard remembering the key points in long story and something will be missed to closeout. A true fan will ask a bunch of questions if thing aren’t closed out properly. They may ask what happens to a side character that the story mentions heavily about but the author ended the main story without explaining how the side character story ends first. Causing the author to go back and fix it. This is why many people are disappointed with ending for long stories. I love that demon slayer is a very straight forward efficient story. It has a clear goal, it’s short and they can’t mess up the ending! People love a satisfying ending. You’re satisfied with an ending when you’re not disappointed or wanting more story. Everything must comes to an end, no matter what!

We are getting many more good manga that are shorter, but you have to look for those titles. I love candy flurry, and it looked like it could be very good and looked like it was going to be pretty long. But it was cancelled in about 30 chapters. But my favorite current new manga is called wild strawberry. It's kinda like chainsaw man kinda and kinda like JJK but there's something special about it. Nothing completely new, but executed so well it deserves a read.

Personally I think this is a good thing, I understand long drawn out stories are a popular format, but imo this is good for the industry because it gives more anime/manga limelight well deserved that are just as good or sometimes higher quality because they aren’t being overshadowed by a big 3 and people have limited attention spans. Not to mention this is better for a mangakas overall health instead of being worked to literal death to keep producing a story that could have ended some time ago.

I honestly think the death of Kentaro Miura really reminded manga authors of their morality. Berserk will never be complete and whatever we get going forward will what his assistants and apprentices give us, not his vision. So they probably want to finish their stories on their terms and write new stories then having their whole career tied to one single property.
@Drums_of_Liberation4 ай бұрын
Bruh Miura trusted Mori with his vision. He's not going to sully his best friend's memory like that. Otherwise Miura never would have told him the planned ending for Berserk.

I mean long shows are fine, but keeping on for too long is not good for the overall quality as it feels forced and padded for no good reason. Its only natural for an show coming to an end, however the next big 3 is going be just sales number and not how "influential or unique". Given how everything has been explored or overdone nowadays in the whole entertaiment medium (games, shows, books), the standard now is just must higher to standout while keeping a whole different style from the rest.

Because most of these shows can have a genuine ending and don’t need to go on forever. It just happens that their time has come now and besides all of them still have their anime adaptions that aren’t finished ( Mha, Demon Slayer and JJK for example ) so fans can still enjoy it.

remember when no one knew what dragon ball was (rip Akira toriyama) now its completely normal for a kid to throw a blanket while yelling Kamehameha. Remember when no one knew what one piece was? Now its normal to see fans of the anime collecting Zoro's swords, or luffy's straw hat. Remember when no one knew what naruto was? Now kids are making hand signs yelling out shadow clone jutsu. Right now, no one knows what these new animes are, were in that phase again, but its amazing to see the legacy they will leave behind in just 5-10 years that will last at least double that.

you’re looking at it backwards, bub. the new series aren’t the outliers, it’s the big 3. most battle shonen end around 42 volumes likely because that’s how long Dragon Ball is. (43 if you’re Toriko). it’s rare for them to go passed that. Dragon Ball, Reborn!, Prince of Tennis, Seven Deadly Sins, etc. 42 volumes.

I want to make 2 manga or webtoon for fun, Its about this boy who died the minute he was going to tell his crush he liked them, from class A1 on the upper roof someone dropped a heavy object that hit him in the head, fast forward to the funeral, A pale dead white haired boy was being taken away for burial and the girl gets to say their last goodbye laying A single red flower (for the panel which angle seems to draw more sad mood?) 5 months later the girl sees the boy outside of the school window in class. (Phase change for pallet), trying to meet him the girl goes and skips class so to catch up with him (mood change). The other story is about a re incarnated boy who was a god of the sun and now has fire powers and has to deal with being chased by bounty hunters and then passes out, wakes up in the Infinite Opposite, A different parallel universe

First off fantastic video, and second your thoughts are just like mine. Manga continues to grow; instead expire like rehashed comics. Because passionate artist exist. Who imagine new tales driven by monumental characters. I also like to add Dandadan, Centuria, Sakamoto Days and to the list. Three manga totally different but with wicked plots and exciting new art styles. Manga is not alone with Manwha clinching at its heels with inspiring series like Tower of God, Solo Leveling, The Beginning After the End,Elceed and one I hope also gets adapted Mercenary Enrollment. As long as artists strive with their hearts, souls and imagination, this industry will continue forward

I think it's more complicated and a bit darker and a bit more reasons: 1) Currently there simply might be more and more artists that want to become mangaka each day, so with more variety it seems logical to get some new titles 2) I don't think big manga/anime companies are worried about the author health, if they were they wouldn't request short stories, but rather slower production lines, like they could simply double the published manga numbers and have all of them biweekly so artists can sleep. No, simply what they want to avoid is artists burning completely out to the point the quality of the story and the art is affected, and thus their money is affected, that's why so many long running series have bad endings, most ended because the artist simply couldn't take it anymore, some started to hate their work. So, basically they still want to overwork their artists to the point of exhaustion, but just before that exhaustion is affecting the manga material. Adding salt to the "wound" of the big manga companies (irony coming), the younger the artist the less likely it will be he will want to deal with the unbearable schedule for long period of time, which I'm all for, these people needs to respect their life more. 3) To the last point, younger audience simply eat materials that are shorter, short videos are common, short games are common, everything gets faster with these kids, not necessary in the good way, so the new generation is simply less likely to sit and watch 1000 episodes of the same thing. Like it or hate it, it's a new demographic and Shounen Manga is still made for Shounens so it must be adapted to what the new kids, growing up with unlimited fast information and dopamine everywhere, with attention spans of a fish, can consume. And so, I can't help but be a bit worried about the future of manga in general, we can just consume as much manga as possible and make the world request and buy good seinen manga, as shounen manga will be more and more sugar-coated, fast-and-easy to understand, with zero philosophy and predictable to appeal to the younger audience. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised to see in a few years anime coming in episodes of 1-minute-lenght short vertical format, with kids watching tens or hundreds of this kind of "anime".

I hope that even after this ending in MHA the writer will do something more about it...
@dontphazeme94775 ай бұрын
This is nothing new. Weekly Shonen Jump has always been driven by reader popularity polls. This is also why so many series just kind of end suddenly or anti climatiacly, usually the writer wasn't planning to end it there. A series has to be a consistent hit with readers on a weekly basis for it to remain in the magazine.

Honestly,I think that it's a good realization. I mean nothing lasts forever including our favorite anime and manga. I think this will give people more opportunities to make brand new and interesting anime for the future. :)

well for the new big 3 i definitely see 1 of the slots being taken by solo leveling in the anime department and solo levelings sequel called solo leveling ragnarok in the manga/manhwa department (esp since the anime has near perfect pacing and is adapting the SL manhwa faithfully), the other 2 slots are open to be filled and alongside the series u mentioned theres also kaiju 8, hells paradise and choujin x (this 1 is done by tokyo ghouls creator) that have potential to be big hits and in a new big 3 and recently we got a new anime called wisteria wand and sword which has been making waves with how good it is so theres alot of contenders for a new big 3 once jjk,mha,BC and KnY animes finish airing there final seasons and/or manga chapters.

Been saying this is a good thing since Assassination Classroom ended at the top of its popularity at around 21 volumes. It’s better for mangaka to end their stories where they want to end it and not needlessly milk series long after they could have ended like with the big 3. I love the big 3 but those were always the exception. Manga of the 90s,80s and beyond usually ended around the 25-30 volume count minus a few exceptions like jojos and dragon ball.
@Jussomerando6775 ай бұрын
I believe the factors that made series long in the past is a combination of push from the editors as well as the fact that anime wasn’t seasonal then. Something else I noticed is that a lot stories don’t create a whole fictional world. They’ll just add a “twist” to the world’s logic and keep moving along with their characters and plot.

I'm certain that Blue Lock will be one the big 3 because, it's only hitting U-20 cup arc soon, so after that we will have just a word cup too, so it at least gonna last 5-6 more years. In my opinion, i think every anime shouldn’t be too long, but also shouldn’t be too short. I think every anime should have at least 6-12 seasons, like MHA for example (8 seasons). Because if an anime is too long or too short, it just kinda ruins it. Because id like to see the conclusion to an anime while also having a good amount of time to enjoy the show, rather than it ending with just like 2 or 3 seasons like JJK, or it going on forever and never finding out the conclusion for a very long time like one piece, and possibly eventually getting bored of the anime before finding out what the conclusion is.
