I am new to your KZbin channel. I find it insightful and useful. I just wanted to share, I had left the church for many years, for many different reasons I chose to leave, and I was determined not to return. Over a year and a half ago, a life changing event occurred in my life and the lives of my immediate family. I would have never imagined this devastating event that left my heart shattered would be the reason for my return to the church but most importantly back to Jesus and Mother Mary. Thank you for this episode. It's been an inspirational topic.

Welcome back home! I just like you had been away for over 20 years. Sinful in everyday, then my life went sideways. Came back to the church, started learning the faith. Went to adoration and heard a voice say " I love you always have my son" totally committed my life to christ and mother church, happiest I've been. Once you learn what the church truly means, and mass you would never leave! Catholic talk show has helped learn in a fun way about the faith. But as I've grown ready the suma, Scott hahn, trent horn and more deep catholic scholars has helped deepen my faith. My God bless you and keep you. May our beloved mother pray for you and your family.

I'm sorry for your suffering. Jesus and Mother Mary was always with you. God is always with you. You just needed a shoulder to cry on. A good friend to talk to. Meditation, like the Rosary does help, writing in a journal does help. All I ask you is to be careful in who you trust. There is Good and Bad in all organizations, in all cultures, in all countries and in all people. But the Vatican is corrupt. Our Lady of Fatima, told the 3 shepherds that many priests would go to hell, in 1917! So, that is about over 100 years, that priests have been abusing children, those priests are the devils.

I just came back to Catholicism and I brought my husband with me. We’re currently in RCIA classes and feel thankful because we have a good team teaching us and our priest is a very good priest also. I left initially because there was so much judgement against everything and everyone and it didn’t nourish my soul. It smacked of the Pharisees of Jesus time and He was not supportive of how they acted and treated people. I like that the church is making efforts to change a bit. The reason I came back was because I did really miss the Eucharist and other sacraments. I do wish the homily was longer. Lol. I enjoyed the hour long sermon in Baptist church but I also felt like a lot was lacking because the Eucharist was only given occasionally and it just wasn’t given the same value that is is given in the Catholic Church. Anyway, your show really helped my husband and myself(I’m stubborn) to join/rejoin the church. Thank you!

I grew up SDA - sermons were mostly like a Bible Study. I started going to Mass with my fiancé, I brought my Bible to Church ( pre-RCIA). Got odd stares… So, I mentioned later to an in-law in a very Catholic family. He explained that the purpose of Mass was to worship God, and there are (should be) other groups, meetings, LOVE YT, so I can get some help that way. But

From a former protestant that just entered the Church this year: One problem is the blender of frog parts that is modernism, relativism, and accepting the values of this age - a la critical theory and the "enlightenment" and wrapping those and politics in a Catholic bow and expecting people to accept this in lieu of objective truth. In the words of Saint Paul, if you preach Christ crucified, people will be convicted. There is a lot of confusion because too many things other than Christ crucified are the subjects of conversation. Some of the topics I had to endure in RCIA really highlighted this. People are afraid of offending the sensitivities of pagans. Less environmentalism, conversations about walls, married clergy, and politics. More Christ crucified.

So many converts to Catholicism are better Catholics than Catholics! I’m so grateful to them for making the sacrifices they make to come to THE EUCHARIST. Welcome to the family. I apologize for the confusion that is going on now. Too bad the bishops tried to get “fancy” after Vatican II. My dad never left the Latin Mass. i went grudgingly with the new church and now after 50 years of seeing the terrible failures of the modern Church we have just signed up to be members of a Latin Mass parish church. It takes about an hour to get there but one mass was all it took to convince us that we had to come HOME!

I was a non-practicing Catholic for many years, but in 1998 when my grandfather was dying, I became very aware that I wasn’t only helping tend to my dying grandfather, who was in him and with him, but I was also tending to Christ suffering and dying on the cross too. That was the beginning of my journey. Jesus found his lost sheep and brought me back home to the Catholic Church. 🙏🏻

Great show. We raised 8 children from 1979. Weakly catechized! My wife a convert in 1978. All 8 kept their Catholic faith. Two are religious sisters. Lots to share. Not always sure of the impact. Will never quit even when alone. At times reaching out as are our children. Lots of excuses I could have used to leave Catholicism. 🙏🤓💪💗. I do find it smelling of evil with the attack/suppresion on TLM.

I left the Catholic church at the age of 17 at the inception of what we called "guitar masses," Vatican II changes to the liturgy,,,the whole nine yards, the dumbed down language, silly music, taking communion in the hands, communion rails gone, altars turned around, and the faithful flapping their arms. I became a member of the Episcopal Church. I recently learned about TLM and watched Latin masses while locked down for Covid. I discovered there's an FSSP priest in a not too distant (small) city, I FLEW to meet this Pastor, who is brilliant, kind, understanding and truly holy. He welcomed me with open arms. Anyway, his sermons are inspiring. The Holy Mass is brilliant. I will never look back. Thank you, Jesus.

Beside with so many illness now days, I do not do the wine and put my mouth in the chalis behind people. I was told all I needed was the Euchrist when returning to the church and doing the RCIA. I think responsibility falls on both the church and the parishioners to maintain attendance. When the whole thing about priest abusing children came about and how the church handled it by simply transferring the abusing priest to other parishes was the dealbreaker for the majority of parishioners. It’s like a relationship between two people. The effort has to go both ways for a relationship to work. How can we have faith in the church when all this child abuse is swept under the rug? That trust needs to be built again and that will take a long time.

Then the church should start teaching the Magisterium again and it's leaders should stop worrying about how much they are fussed over by the press and like by the media. Or how much money they can fleece from flock and government to continue with the life style they have been accustomed to. Remember folks this is how the reformation started with the financial and moral corruption with regards to the hierarchy.

Amen. My children were born in the ‘70s. Their cathacheais was so liberal. My one daughter made her First Communion before her first Confession. I repeatedly questioned the content and I was told I was too old fashioned and I needed to get with the program. Well, I have3adult children who do not attend any church. They also do not believe that there is a difference between denominations. Doesn’t surprise me when the Holy Eucharist was given so little respect and the beauty of the Catholic Church was not stressed. I went to Mass and tried my best but culture and poor cathechesis had their toll

Good evening Father well I haven't heard that in my church .. and I will never and had never left my Catholic church .. because I have strong faith in God , keep my prayers, mass , rosary .. but ,what the churches should do is have priest teach bible classes, preaching, talk of values ,everyday problems,.prayers, all this should be done on KZbin . Like a priest named Father Mark Goring , from Saint Mary's Church in Ottawa Canada .. and he has followers from all over the world and even people of other faiths , who praise him for preaching to people the word of God and give talks of different things that happened in our every day life .

Sure Francis will plant another tree whilst the forest dies. Lots of reasons. But never been said more to the point as you..Why has the church left us. Maybe it was closing the churches. kinda sent the message the sacraments dont matter especially JESUS in mass and then trying to put a band aid over a gaping wound. Maybe it's in fighting among bishops. Its obvious the modernists with lust and passions are attacking the traditional and orthodox among them...the list goes on.

I would like to thank you for your show and your hard work. This is the first time I watch it and I notice that you have a true zeal and love for the bride of Christ. Father and brothers, one thing that really pains me are how many millions are leaving the church for Evangelical and pentecostal churches in Latin America. Recently I read that in countries like Puerto Rico and Honduras, Evangelicals are actually the majority of the population and Catholics have become a minority. There are entire towns in Guatemala that are full Evangelical. This means not a single person is Catholic in an entire town. And the problem is, people are very happy and joyful for having left the Church. I have a friend who left the church in South America because when his mother was dying, he asked the priest to come to give her the last rites and he said that he wasn't available. The lady died without the last rites. In his case, I don't know if he left the church or the church has left him.

The worst part of it is that the Vatican did absolutely nothing to isolate the matter, but instead spread it over the whole Catholic Church. Priest have gone from figures of authority respected by the community to old creeps that parents won't ever let be near their children. The media has a lot to do with this, but the blame lies on the Church not caring about abuse.

Remember those were people with human feelings. They are not the Church it self I have been a Catholic all my life, I did not go to Church for about 12 years lately. I'm almost 70 now. I never stopped praying or not believing in God or the trinity. My wife of 50 years and I go to Church every week now. We are once again true Catholics. My wife converted from being a Baptist to a Catholic before we married. I love this women very deeply.

These guys want to blame the "sexual revolution" for what the priests were doing. I happen to know that it precedes that time. I grew up in an area that was predominantly Catholic, over 70%, but I wasn't one. I had a classmate who was so excited to become an alter boy and told me all about it. Months later he told me what a priest was doing to him. We didn't really understand what was going on, but it didn't seem right. He only told me because I wasn't Catholic because he knew that nobody else would believe him. His parents were "old school" and I knew them. They were sure that priests were God personified, something my parents scoffed at. He wanted to know what he should do and I had nothing for him. He ended up telling his parents he didn't want to go to church anymore, but he wouldn't say why. He had to go to talk to guess who, to tell him that he didn't want to go anymore. His parents wouldn't leave him alone at home, so he would stay in the car during mass and they were not understanding. In fact, they gave him an amazing amount of trouble about it. Before people start popping off, not my parents, not the teachers, nor the police would have believed him because that was the way things were then. If he had come forward and complained, he would have been in even more trouble. My family moved away, so I never knew what happened to him, but looking at his miserable family life, I doubt anything good.

I also had a small problem with a priest. I was married in the church to my first (abusive) husband. Got divorced a year later. Tried to annul my Church wedding and the Church asked me for a lot of money… I did not have. Then, went to church and spoke to the priest. He was rude and told me not to get close to “his” altar. Wow! I spoke with another Priest and he was very kind; remind me how much God loves me. Years later, met my now husband, annulled the first wedding and remarried in the Catholic Church. I love God dearly, I love the Catholic church and here I’m, serving the Lord as much as I possible can! Love you guys 🙏🏼

I agree wholeheartedly, we definitely need more catechist. I firmly believe that any catechist who teaches confirmation should do a course in theology so that they can better understand what they teaching. Study the CCC and Vatican 2 docs cause the young people of today have technology on hand and if you as a catechist cannot answer them , they will leave the church. Also the main catechist are the parents , everything starts in the home. Most Catholic homes nowadays don't so much as have an altar , or prayers are not being said at home. Another sad part is that the evangelical churches attract our young with their disco type music that they play.

Wendy Jansen you are so right about the music in evangelical churches and also no bible teaching with correct interpretation. Just verses taking out of content and chapter to make a story line by the pastor. Which story line use by the pastor has nothing to do with what the chapter or Book of the Bible is teaching. Yes you are so right about the altar in the home. I am 58 and remember my mother who was raise Catholic having one at home. I did not understand it at all but it was there. All those image and question from my home was what brought me back from the Protestant world, questioning which church was the original one establish by Christ and what kind of worship was used in the early church since many of the bible passage of the early church did not look nothing like the Protestant churches in 20 Century Western Culture.

Thank you so much for doing the Catholic Talk Show. I always love to hear the very important discussions you make. I pray every single day that our Pope will not close down the Tridentine Latin Mass. There is so much pressure from the Vatican to do this. 2,000 years of Catholic tradition will be wiped out. So many will feel alone if this is done. Overturning The Council of Trent, the acceptance and embracing of our Extraordinary Mass by literally hundreds of Popes since Peter. We have been to Mass since childhood every day during the weekdays and Sundays. I am so used to the Latin Mass and I am so so sorry to see what is going on in the Church. When I attended Catholic college (76-80) homilies were engaging and in a teaching tone- I loved it! When I went back home, the homily was dry I felt without a tie to the present day and no teaching was involved. It was hard to to be excited. I asked my priest to start a group for young people my age. His response was: Won’t be any interest. When I got married we asked for a couple group in a different parish, got the same response. This might be part of the problem. I never left the church, but ashamedly was away during the scandal. Then I realized; You don’t leave your best friend (Jesus) when He’s in trouble! I’ve learned and understood more online since COVID and felt closer to my Lord in the last year, than the last 40 years. Why aren’t things addressed in the parish??? 💖🦩

I am a follower a Catholic. Approximately 10 years ago I was in a physical and emotional crisis. I tried to find a priest to talk to. I was given the runaround and told to come back on Saturday for confession. I didn’t want to wait till egg so I went to a parish and approached the priest who is not one bit happy with me. But he didn’t give me some time, and I guess feel better after talking to him his last statement, which to me was come back for coffee. But he refused to make a decision for me and told me it was up to me, I was surprised, but I was really glad. I go to a protestant church now because there’s a sense of community that I am sadly lacking in my life I don’t find this in the Catholic Church. I Joe find this shepherding experience that comes from pastors as opposed to pre-. My mom always said “we are all go in the same place, but we’re taking different roads close. That was a very wise statement. I spent a lot of time being angry at the Catholic Church, but no more it just doesn’t meet my needs.

Then a priest in a 300 member church helped me make everything right and I'm back, married in church and a productive member in my church. This is among the BEST shows you have done. You hit all the points that rankle me personally about the Church with the scandals, abuses etc. Before watching your program (and this ties in with the exact topic you were discussing at 43.00) I read a CNA report on the fact that RETIRED Cardinal Whuerl had received $2 million dollars for his personal use from the Archdiocese of Washington DC. This is slightly more than he received in 2020. When asked about this, his office told the reporter to contact the Archdiocese. So far, no response from headquarters.......and I'm not surprised. I'm a lifelong practicing Catholic layman and (retired) from 31 years as a Rel. Ed. (American History & Theology as double majors at DePaul U. in Chicago) teacher. I'd never leave because of the very truths of Faith that you all so wonderfully described. I've never heard it expressed better. But as I said in my first sentence, I'm "rankled" and what faithful Catholic isn't?? I'll be sure to follow you on TCTS "religiously" (pun intended!). I hope this presentation hits home with many people....especially family/friends of the NONES.

You are naive. God did not create the church. And, St. Francis understood it, very well, that he left his fellow monks, found a cave and there in prayer became close to God. You love Community. You can find Community at school, at work, with family, in any social clubs - like the sewing club, and with your neighbours. Our Lady of Fatima, told the 3 shepherds that many priests would go to hell, in 1917! So, that is about over 100 years, that priests have been abusing children, those priests are the devils.

Re-watched this video 2 years later...I think it's natural for many people to leave a Church where they were baptized as infants with no say in the matter. Obviously, as they grow and learn more, they may feel that they don't agree with what the Church believes, or they may just feel like they get nothing out of participating in it. I'm 47 and have taken 2 decade+ long breaks from the Church. I'm currently driving past 2 closer parishes to attend mass at a Jesuit-run parish. I'm glad I discovered them and am hopeful that prior issues will no longer occur. :)

I'm one add left to church the reason I left the church I did not know what I believed in even though I had the classes I still didn't know if someone asked me what religion are you how to say Catholic. I did not know what practicing Catholic was I've never heard that term. I baptized 1979 and confirmation confirm didn't go very much Mass because I got mixed up doing things I should not be doing doing drugs drinking too much hanging around the people I should not be hanging around. Then I started going to other churches. 2006 me and my wife got married in the Catholic Church I was off to a good start unfortunately I started going to other churches again cuz I did not know what I believed in the same things I had doubts before. Something I forgot to mention I was baptized at age 22 and I got married at age 50 me and my wife did Stay Together even though I left the church for 13 years that was the main reason I didn't know what I believed in so I came back to the church I've been bad for 17 months now I go to mass every Sunday holy day. And I took the classes over again at KZbin why we believe in that has helped me to know what we believe in before I thot Eucharist was only a symbol come to find out I learn it's the presence of Jesus Christ's body and blood I don't know how I miss that. When I would go to confession I thought it was the priest that forgave sin I found out that's not true I found out when I say bless me Father for I have sinned that I'm actually talking to God the Father the priest is there is to guide me give me pendants. And I don't know how I miss that. I didn't know what a mortal sin was I thought Sin is Sin all sins are the same that was something that my mom taught me but she wasn't Catholic. I learned you have to go to confession when you have a mortal sin. There is also venial sins I did not know about that one either. I also did not know if you do not want to receive the Eucharist Cross Your Arms there was so much I did not know the reason I had so much trouble with learning all this stuff I have a learning disability so I'm in I'm slow on learning

Reasons I left: I reached out for help as a troubled teen from a broken family and was met with rug sweeping, blame, and hellfire from ministry and ccd leaders. I longed for a relationship with Jesus and was met with long winded unrelated homilies that bored me to tears. I honestly don’t feel the priests in my hometown after our good priests were driven out could even consecrate the Eucharist anymore. My disdain and apathy for Sunday Mass made me feel more resentment at God than I was comfortable with. So I stepped away to save my relationship with God. I went to a baptist Church that gave me the tools in scripture I was longing for to understand what it was like to have a real relationship with Jesus based in faith and love. I feel the Catholic Church I grew up in was based in fear and obedience. What I am missing in the reverence, worship, and structure, that I have in the Catholic Church and that is what makes me consider coming back.

All the faiths pray to the same God, only their devotion is different. Here's a tip: Go outside, close your eyes, feel the wind against your face and know that God is with you. It's that simple. And, I don't have to go to church, to be with God, we are inseparable.

Over the past several decades I've met many dozens of people who have left the Church, and it has nearly always come down to one statement: "The Church wasn't meeting my spiritual needs." And every time I have pressed the question further it became very clear that these people weren't actually talking about their spiritual needs; it was their emotional needs -- which needs are not the Church's primary mission. We live in a spoiled, shallow society that confuses feelings with spirituality.

Well, if they feel alone, if they don't feel God in others, I can see it. Some talk of the pious ones who think if you don't fit one mold, you are out, others go out of tradition, but don't understand the faith. I think many priests on youtube and other social media understand the need to feel part of the church family. That can take time, not everyone is at the same point. If they weren't taught things correctly and MANY misinformation's existed since I was a child in the 60's and 70's, I can see being confused and feeling alone. They need a good guide and not feel overwhelmed

Two major reason I see as a former Presbyterian are: 1. Protestant pastors are better at spreading hate and lies about Catholicism to their congregations than the Catholic Church is at disarming their propaganda. Catholics don’t often offer proof other than ‘you’re wrong’. 2. We’ve gotten away from tradition and tried to be closer to the world. It was a mistaken in my opinion.

We are here to help, others, to serve. Not to take. At the same time, not to be a burden, to our friends, family, society, but to lighten their own crosses. Forget about 'Tradition', that is far gone. It's what is in your heart that counts, the love that you have for others and God, Jesus, Mary. Here is a tip: If you want to be close to God, go outside, close your eyes, feel the wind against your face and know that God is with you.

I grew up in the Catholic Church in the Caribbean. The mass was alive, priests operated in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, our choirs led in worship and praise and people wanted to go to mass because we walked away nourished and empowered to share the gospel. I came to the US and was shocked and horrified at how devoid of the Holy Spirit the church was!!! The Catholic Church is hemorrhaging people because the Holy Spirit has been exorcised from within its walls. Another reason is because people are more aware now than ever before about its historic as well as its more recent sins of the church. It’s swept under the rug and not openly and honestly dealt with it. Another issue is brining politics into the church. I remember dragging myself to church even though I wasn’t feeling well. I needed spiritual nourishment instead I got a 45 min lecture on how I needed to vote Republican...I got up and left. I haven’t been back. That was the last straw for me....

In Trinidad and Tobago my experience has been persons leaving after confirmation. I was on fire for Christ yet the confirmation programme was sooo boring... it felt like school... no relationship was developing between me and Jesus nor me and the catechists. I stayed because of the youth group that was basically my home. It was fun , relationships were developed, everyone felt at home and comfortable and we were learning so much about Christ and ourselves. This is what confirmation should be like.

Don't tell him anything, just lead him to the hospital. If you can't drive, get a taxi. No excuses. We are here to help one another. To serve. Not to take. Don't force him to go to church, don't say anything about church. Let him choose, and you have to respect his decision. Right now it's all about getting the help he needs. For me, I think a lot of it has to do with feeling: a) invisible in the Church; and b) there's no programs for me to join in which we men partner with each other and promise to help strengthen each other's Christian walk. I became Catholic in 1998. Since then, more things have happened in my life that I have dealt with by myself, and still do, as a lapse Catholic than as a regular church going congregant. In all this time not one person from the church has called to check up on me. This has made me think I'm better off staying home than making the effort to go to mass.

I grew in a Catholic home but my parents basically neglected me as a kid as they had a failing business and martial problems. So nobody was going to church. My grandmother tried but she got to old to drive. I do remember being in 2nd grade catechism classes. The older boys said never be alone with the father. I was to young to understand that warning. A good friend and I were attending church together but we had a fight and ended our friendship, so I lost my way out of the church. 15 years later the church scandal over little boys being raped came out. Then that warning flashed back and I understand the warning. My angry towards the church grew. I still have an issue with church as they still are covering up these crimes. My sister worked for the church and she did not believe me about this warning. Years later she started to ask questions and found out it was true. How can I trust a church when the church has committed some of the most awful crimes. I understand individuals did the crimes, but the churches allowed it and covered up the crimes. Who should really be going to hell? That is why I have stayed away.

Just the opposite. They are leaving because they don't understand the Catholic Church, and don't take the time to learn anything about it. Chesterton said that the Catholic Church has not been tried and found wanting, it's been found hard and not tried. It takes a certain level of intelligence and honesty to be a Catholic. You must be intelligent enough to search for the truth, and honest enough to accept it when found.

As a devoted catholic, I have left the church, because the sexual crisis. It is one thing for a handful of priests committing an unforgivable sin, and another thing for the Vatican to cover it up for decades and decades, for hundreds and hundreds of priests. My heart goes out to these beautiful children from around the world, who has suffered. I have the FREEDOM to leave. Although I have missed the Eucharist and especially the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, I know that within my very being, God is with me. I know God loves me, because he has actually saved my physical body, on several occasions. My Faith has not faltered. By leaving, it is my way to fight evil. And then there is Emanuela Orlandi, the girl that went missing within the Vatican City, in 1983, and it was covered up, to this day. Vatican Officials failed to investigate and report on the teenager, Emanuela Orlandi. The 3rd Fatima Secret is about the Vatican and the flaming sword with the angel saying: “Penance! Penance! Penance” (incl. all other sinners). No one is above the law, that is why The Crown, of A Good Name ~ is greater than all of them. I feel sorry for the good priests, who are suffering, because the Vatican’s decisions. I will always follow the 10 Commandments, read the Bible, say my prayers, respect the Holy Trinity, honour and respect my parents and in-laws, do good deeds starting at home, and ask God for forgiveness, for my own faults.

I think the one of the biggest and good reasons people leave the Church is that they don't see their lives improved through the sacraments. That and, because there are many who know Catholic teachings and practice they came to a point that its just not for them. It's a genuine means of soul searching and if a christian came to them saying that's a "bad reason" then it would give more evidence and reason to leave the church and any faith that would assume such soul searching is a bad reason. I did read a quote that said "just because I'm on a different path doesn't mean I'm lost." I don't believe that people who leave the church misunderstand it in one way or another. It's a highly inappropriate thing to say to anyone who genuinely left but with no hard feelings against the teachings and its people.

You are not accurately describing the non Catholic tradition, at least my beloved background. I came into the Catholic church 7 years ago because of the theology. But not for a minute do I see the Catholic church doing all things well. The Reformation split and tore apart what should have remained intact. This left everyone missing something vital. The Catholic church I see is riddled with poor teaching and poor community. Most homilies are thin and read like a poor school speech.
