I've owned many Boats, not Super Yachts but pretty high end Fishing Rigs. They are fun, also Money and Time Pits. I'm building my own Sailboat now. Never had my own Sailboat. The maintenance cost appears to lower than Power Boats. I suppose I will find out.

The ultra rich hardly ever keep anything like a Yacht for a long period of time. It's more for show than something to keep. Never keep anything for long periods of time that you can't profit from.

Money being backed by oil and being printed out of thin air has allowed Banks, Intel Agencies and Energy industry to suppress certain new forms of energy that are not only cleaner than oil and coal but more powerful and extremely cheap if not almost free. President Trump moving money back to the Gold Standard won't just fix our financial system but will lead to release of energy technologies that will make life so much easier for the average person. The cost of living for the average person would become extremely cheap. The problem with trying to sell a +$100 million yacht is that all the guys who can afford it can also afford to build a brand new yacht.

That’s true but they have to wait 3-5 years whilst it’s being built. With a ready built yacht they can get it right away. Usually they will then take it back into the shipyard for a refit to make it to their personal taste but that’s maybe 4-6 months.

The average ownership of a yacht is a little over three years. I think they sell them for three reasons. 1. That was great but time to move onto some thing else, not worth what it costs. The cost is always more than anyone tells you it will be. 2. That was great let's get a bigger one. 3. the owner dies or gets sick. The time it takes to sell one is about a year. A lot of American yachts, sail and power, are listed "for sale" for tax reasons, even if they don'tchater-out. Also many marinas give discounts on the annual slip leases if you list with their in-house broker, let's the broker plump-up his listings as the dollar-volume of his listings increases his prestige in the industry. A flashy or prominent yacht can get quite a discount this way on the dockage ...and if you really don't want to sell you just give an unreasonable price.. Insiders know the game,, but it works on the rubes!

I worked for a really Rich business owner and he went to Florida to have his yacht fueled up it cost him $120,000.00 just in diesel.. .......so i imagine people with money buy a boat have it for a while realize how much it cost to maintain and realize they only use it a few weeks out the year and the boat became a hole in the water they throw their money into and it would be cheaper to rent one for a month a year and not have to worry about it

You get it. You've got to be able to pay for it from a recurring passive income that far exceeds the annual running cost. These are not budget items. They are luxuries. You don't buy caviar to survive. Yatchs are for money is no object billionaires. Not millionaires on a budget.

I think I would prefer to rent one and be on the show "Below Deck", LOL. Ownership vs Rental and the savings on something I maybe would use for 8-12 weeks a year seems the way to go for me, even if money wasn't a factor which of course it isn't for the majority of these owners.

That’s because just buying the yacht cost does not end there. They have to pay for a crew to run it So basically paying out of pocket for people. Then there is fuel, lubricants and also maintenance and upkeep and docking fees

Marc Marse this is a really good point. But the super rich always have household staff. And their affairs are too complicated to handle alone. They need a full time personal assistant at least. I am confused how they maintain privacy. One way is to have loyal, long term staff who are well paid.

I know why there are so many yachts for sale! The owners simply get bored and look forward to a new yacht then get bored again! We are all the same, be it a super yacht or a new kitchen!! We all want a new "fix" The only TRUE state of happiness is being Content, with your lot! P.S> I'm a Yacht owner and get bored with sunbathing drinks and boring chit chat, pulling up the anchor going round and round and coming back into port AGAIN!! Now where is MY next Fix????
