Do you know what the name Oscar means? The name is comprised of two parts. The first one is Ase which means god. The second part is ger, the word for javelling. Ger means something thin travelling fast, a bullet, arrow, spear, thunderbolt. Put together As.ger or later Os.kar meant the javelling of god - or thunderbolt, if you wish. In the Canadian movie show Stargate they employed the name Asgard for Asen(plural of Ase) which means the garden of the gods or even the guardian of the gods. They did that, because Ases wouldn't have resonated well with the audience ;-))).
