Very helpful. I was just about to sew side seams in my drapes. I was thinking of leaving the selvage edge on (figured it was hidden in the double hem). You just saved me from making a mistake! Thank you!

Just bought curtains from a big box store and they have this exact problem. going to take out some stitches from the side and see if that works. thank you!

Also maybe add some draper weights in the corners that may be all you need. You can buy them at Joann or you can use large fender washers from Home Depot.

Thank you so much for this! I recently bought some curtains from Target that have this problem, and it makes them look terrible! Now I know how to fix them.

Yes, this is exactly what I have noticed. Thank you so much for teaching what the problem is and the remedy. Also a funny side note, I was wearing headphones when I watched your video, I suddenly heard a noise and looked out my window… it was the thunder in your video… ROFL.

that's funny! I've done that on my own videos before when I've heard my goats or chickens in the background.

Wow! Just the video I was looking for to take me out of my misery! LOL. I couldn’t understand what accounted for the take-up. Mystery now solved. Now I know I’ve made a cardinal error in not cutting off the selvedge. Thought I was saving myself time. 🙈🙈🙈. Now I know it was at a cost. So, I’ll cut them off and do the stretching technique that you suggested. Hoping for far better results for the remaining curtains I’ll be making over the coming days.

Thanks for this. I've just made 3 sets of curtains and they all have take up on each edge and I couldn't figure out why. I was so careful to measure them and make sure the edges all matched up.....
@MimzyandCompany2 жыл бұрын
I know...it's really annoying. cut off the selvage edge for sure and use a walking foot if you can.and then install drapery weights in the corners will help too.

Do you have any tips for hemming curtains that have the shorter edges? Would you just want to make a bit of a diagonal hem towards the edge of the panel to compensate for the difference in length?
@MimzyandCompany10 ай бұрын
mmm...possibly. But i would try putting drapery weights(or big washers) in the corners first and let out a few stitches toward the bottom and see if that helps. it should do the trick.

Thank you for all the info--so very helpful. I love that you have your sewing machine set into your table (like an industrial sewing machine). Was that a DIY?
@MimzyandCompany2 жыл бұрын
Yes. It was a DIY. It’s a desk with keyboard tray. I cut a hole in the desk and my machine fits perfectly level with the desk now. It’s great!!!! Best thing I ever did

We purchased “joint repair plates” or something from Home Depot (little metal rectangle pieces) and my dad left the seam at the bottom Open/hollow and I put the metal piece on either end to weigh down the lifting edges! :)
@MimzyandCompany4 жыл бұрын
Well done! probably cheaper than drapery weights. I've heard of people using washers before but not mending plates.

I’m sitting here in my living room looking at my beautiful drapes and I simply can’t look past the inside, bottom corner of the left drape. The corner is about 1-1/2” higher than the rest of the drape. I can’t thank you enough for this video. I’ve gone so far as to put a 2 pound hand weight in a plastic bag and used safety pins to attach the weight up a little above the floor, so it stretches the fabric somewhat. The only thing that achieved was a good laugh from my husband🤨. I’m going to do as you suggest and take out some of the stitches and see what that does. I didn’t make the drapes, I purchased them from Bed, Bath & Beyond. They weren’t the cheap ones that they carry. These are the high quality ones, brushed silk. Of course, I’m somewhat disappointed that this happened. I’m curious to find out if in fact the salvage edge has been used on this particular panel. There are 4 panels total and only 1 has the uptake issue. Thanks again for the great suggestions, I really appreciate it. BTW, I have a serious case of craft room envy! What a lucky lady you are✂️🧷📐✏️

Very informative. How would you fix this issue on a store purchase?
@MimzyandCompany2 жыл бұрын
you could try to weight the bottom corner with drapery weights, or you can use a couple large washers instead of drapery weights. That might just enough to even out the bottom.
