The only neat fact I know about Cooking Mama is that the 3DS games reuse Cooking Mama 4's splash screen audio, you can even hear them getting cut off on saying four if you listen carefully

Watching Ichigo struggle in the latter half of the games just made me laugh so much. Imagine everytime as a child your mom made you take out the trash even after you tell her about the cars, crows, etc that are actively trying to kill you

That one reviewer that said that it's obviously made for kids and parents is so wrong. I remember one day in elemantary school we had an open day which means we didn't have any classes and because a lot of kids just skipped out they combined us with the other kids and we were allowed to bring our eletronics and this one girl had cooking mama 2 and she couldn't for the life of her do the ice cream recipe without failing. The ice cream recipe, where you just slide the cone and get the scoops on it 😭 She was pretty shocked when I did it for her and got a 100% lmao cooking mama is not an easy game for everyone

Imagine: figure skating was honestly so difficult. Even later on as a teen when I tried to get through the competitions, I still failed 🥹 It's hard to make 3 circles at one time with a lil DS pen

The "Imagine" series is a weird one, because it bundles together a lot of games that have nothing to do with each other, aside from being targeted at girls. Some were localisation of preexisting Japanese games, they tended to have 2D art, intricate (and weird) plotlines, and generally were higher on the quality scale of the series. Others were made "in house", I think, they tended to be kind of shitty mini games collections, with rather ugly 3D art and not that much in terms of progression and difficulty scale (many were generally really easy, but sometimes, you'll get a stupidly hard minigame for no reason). I pointed the two ends, but it is a spectrum, there were just so many games, the quality really varied.

the first cooking mama game could definitely be pretty difficult to figure out. i have all gold (except for this stupid recipe that requires you to circle rice but you cant circle too much or too little. hate that step) but it took me forever to figure out some things. like for the spaghetti where you have to saute? when it tells you to add the ketchup, DO NOT ADD IT. keep flipping the pan until you have 1/4 of the time left, and then add the ketchup. if you add it too early, it'll burn no matter how much you keep flipping the pan, so you have to add it in later than it tells you

I remember the hight of the Cooking Mama craze. My first DS lite was the lime green one bundled with personal trainer: cooking, and one of the reasons I chose that model was because I wanted a game with my new console, and I thought it was cooking mama or cooking mama adjacent lol. I still have that console, and even had my own fun with the pack in title. Never actually got Cooking Mama on DS, but did play it on my sister's ipod.

I’ve played Cooking Mama Cuisine! I get Apple Arcade included with my phone plan, otherwise I’d never have known it existed 😂 I really enjoyed it, you pick ingredients and it’s a surprise what recipe you create if you’ve never used that ingredient combo before. Every day of the week has different ingredients and recipes, and they included holiday recipes during holiday seasons. I had a bunch of fun with it ❤

Tip for peeling eggs, use a spoon! Crack the egg a little, get a spoon, put the pressure towards the shell and go around the egg. Not sure if I explained that well but it's such a time saver and usually the eggs come out nicely :)

I’m not ashamed that I learnt how to cook by playing cooking mama games 😅 My real mama just mainly made frozen food so I had to learn from somewhere and some recipes are ingrained in my head with the hands doing the thing and that’s how I remember how to do it 😂

I grew up playing science papa because I wasnt huge on the cooking games. I LOVED IT. I have no idea how much of the motion controls holds up, and I know I struggled greatly with the brush scrubbing sections. I'd kill to see you try it out. They aparently had copyrighted "Math Papa" too, but I've no clue if they ended up making that.

The problem that every video game franchise faces, from the most casual to the most hardcore, is how much variance to include between entries. Too much variance and fans complain that the series has lost its way/forgotten its roots, and to little variance and fans complain that they're all samey. The worst part is there's no way to please everyone, so the "sweet spot" is simply the one that upsets the fewest fans. I've never played a Cooking Mama game before, but it sounds like they decided to err on the side of caution and go for a low variance approach, at least with the mainline titles. Cooking Mama (2006-2022) is one of the most greatest video games of all time. It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and theme such as the spin-offs. It was decent. To this day I still play it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old.😍😎💯👍🏻

I saw the issues you were having with this vid on Twitter, seems like cooking mama wanted you to WORK for this vid just like she worked in each of these games. Edit after watching: even though a lot of these microphone features seem annoying nowadays (ex: blowing on the mic to cool it down, using voice prompts in nintendogs, etc.) it's actually really cool to see how the game developers tried their best to incorporate all features of the DS into gameplay. Even modern consoles with mics don't do that nowadays
