Why are there so many technologies for web?

Using a game analogy to explain why there are so many frameworks, tools, and libraries for web. The main goal of the analogy is to help new developers not get so overwhelmed by sheer number of technologies out there but to know how to organize these different technologies into mental buckets that help simplify what they are seeing.
