What’s up Brad I have a couple questions. What causes “ orange peel” on some spots after applying the clear coat? I’m not talking about flash off. What causes small little pin point holes after spraying the clear coat? It seems to happen on the top portion of where the clear coat is layed down and even after respraying the little holes with not fill in. Also I noticed you only shake the cans for a couple seconds. The issues I’ve had above sometimes happens even after shaking the can for 4 minutes and the lens being completely milky. And thanks for posting another video I know you’re busy 👍🏼

Hey brother! Orange peel can be caused by a few different things. Temperature, humidity, but in this case it can be the texture of the surface. If not sanded with 600 thoroughly, you can see some slight orange peel. I've never had issues with orange peel before. I'm not sure what you're referring to with the pin-point holes. If you can email me over some pictures I'm sure I can shed some light on it. It may be too light of a coat. If you miss some areas, you'll see some tiny little spots, that or not sanding with 600 long enough. So for the can, I shake them periodically during the drive to the customer. So its getting some really good shake time before actually spraying.

Have you ever experienced areas of hazing after the clear coat has cured? Like the next day? It is extremely rare for me, but it does happen on occasion and I can’t figure out why. Also, what’s the remedy is after the fact, if so? I just start over and resurface the lens and restore the lenses again.

Yes, that's more than likely the humidity. A few things to take into consideration. Make sure you're mixing the can before spraying. Remember, it's a liquid chemical in a can, so at rest, a lot of the mix sits at the bottom. If you're not shaking the can and mixing everything up, you can see some hazing in certain areas when spraying. Think of how putting sugar in sweet tea. If you don't mix it well enough, all of it just sits on the bottom which can cause some issues. But humidity can play a factor too. If there's a lot of water in the air it can make contact with the lens, causing the solvents to evaporate even slower. The only option is to sand again and reapply.

The grit of sandpaper
@grandmastert019 ай бұрын
Hi Brad thanks for the video. I’ve been using 3m Wet/dry 12”x9.5” sandpaper off Amazon just because it seams like the least expensive way to go then I just cut them to size. Have you ever compared your sandpaper to 3m ? What’s the difference between the 2 ?
@StartRestoringHeadlights9 ай бұрын
Hi Tommy! Every manufacturer's sandpaper is different, even if they are both the same grit. I can say the 3m is pretty coarse, and I had some issues with it leaving scratches. This is why I switched to a silicon carbide. After doing a lot of research I found it was easier on the lens.
@grandmastert019 ай бұрын
@@StartRestoringHeadlights maybe that’s why I seam to always have scratches. I’m gonna buy some of your sandpaper and try it.

If you did't use the light to help it dry, how long would it take to dry on its on? Thanks
@StartRestoringHeadlights9 ай бұрын
I'd say maybe 15-20 minutes tack free. The wind started coming through as I was cleaning the driveway floor. Wind can help dry it too, not just UV

Sorry just thought of another question. Older cars like for example 2006 Toyotas sometimes after spraying are still cloudy/hazy I’m guessing it’s because the sun has just burnt up the lens all the way through. So I don’t know for sure this will happen till I spray so my question is have you dealt with this and how do I then charge the customer? They are expecting crystal clear lens when I’m done.

I don't remember if I mentioned it in the video, but he had another vehicle in the garage that his was was going to be leaving in soon, so I couldn't park next to it.

Put your tools and the equipment you need in something you could carry instead of going back and forth. What a waste.
