I spent 12 years in Boilerrooms as a BT2 and retired with a blue seal in New Jersey!

I am a retired GSM. We evolved out of the BT and MM ratings. The BTs and MMS that cross rated to GSM or GSE were some of the best and smartest Navy engineers I ever met in the navy. They were way more skilled and hands on than we were and everyone I met taught us a lot. Much respect to you and all BTs out there!

As an FNG RMSN reporting aboard the Wainwright CG-28 I was assigned to B & A berthing 😮😂. They made my life hell for a while but later I was one of the few “twidgets” welcome to join the snipes for a beer in bars oversea!

A guy on the Saratoga stood watch in "the hole" butt naked back in the mid '70s.Nobody ever said anything about it.Hell,it got to 115 F down there,cant say I can blame him.(Do nukes ever get that hot in the engine room?) Anyway,if they had women down there back then they probably wouldnt have batted an eyelash at the guy,just go on about their work like everybody else

Gas Turbines and Nukes have huge blowers that ventilate the engine rooms and they don't get that hot. On Gas Turbines cruising in the Persian Gulf temps can exceed 100 and get hot. I remember a guy going down to his underwear and T-shirt until one of the Chiefs saw him and chewed him out. 😆 Never did that again.

I lived there all the time. Great Lakes doesn't have anything that compares to Snipes Castle today.

Thank you for the history lesson, served on tender back in the seventies as a snipe . Still in the steam field to this day.
