I was petrified before I told my boss I was retiring at the end of this year. I pretty much couldn't sleep for 2 days beforehand. I just knew it was time. A massive weight was lifted off my shoulders after telling him. He took it well. The stress and routine of the job was sucking all of the happiness from my life and there was no let-up in sight. I'm relatively young to retire but I'm more than ready. I have more than enough (27 years of VTSAX has been kind to me), and I have countless hobbies and interests I want to pursue before it's too late. I'm tired of being locked to my desk when the sun is shining outside. No more wasted summers for me. I didn't retire to do nothing, I retired to do anything I want.

I retired 2 months ago and really regret it. The reduction of income and too much free time is difficult. I feel broke even though I've saved enough. I don't like the dependency on the stock market. I am now looking for a job and unretiring. Retirement is overrated!!!
@muniondalenewyurk6777Ай бұрын
@@janethall8475it’s really a personal choice, if you feel better going back to work that’s your prerogative. But don’t knock folks who did retire or plan on retiring and enjoy their free time. When you do retire you should figure out what you would like to do with yourself to feel comfortable. Retirement doesn’t mean sitting at home and never going anywhere or doing anything. You should set goals for yourself, to keep your brain healthy and active. For example volunteering at an organization in your community to help others in need (ex: volunteer once a week at a food pantry, hospital, senior center, Veterans Hospital ect ). Or choose or learn a new hobby, knitting , painting, gardening, join a ymca or recreation center to do moderate exercises (senior Zumba, yoga, aquacise ect). What most active retires discovered is that they aren’t forced to work 40 hours a week at greedy uncaring corporations that don’t value us as human beings, only as another number. When your retired you have the FREEDOM, CHOICE and PEACE OF MIND do whatever you want and live your best life! Life is what you make it! If a person is miserable and toxic they will be that way whether in the job or retired! It’s about being positive and learning to accept that the job/career doesn’t define who you are and your purpose in life! If you always see the glass as half full, you will never be satisfied with anything! Working at a job to please an employer and be unappreciated, overworked and underpaid is also overrated! 😅😂 Most of us were brainwashed to believe that we must work until we are too old to enjoy the fruits of our labor or worst disabled! I have seen many people at my job pass away before retiring and never got the opportunity to enjoy their golden years! Guess what our job did when they passed away? Nothing and no one remembered them because they were replaced by another younger employee! Everyone has their own path and journey, so respect other’s personal decisions ! Best wishes to you in your future endeavors! ❤️

What are your thoughts on the stock market for the next 4 years? I’m terrified of a crash and losing all I’ve worked so hard for.
@HappyonMondayАй бұрын
I use the bucket strategy in case if a bear market. The market goes in cycles and you have to be ready for that. I have 4 years worth of expenses to ride out a crash in bucket 1! ☺

@@HappyonMonday so would this look like a 4 year emergency fund bucket? Just cash, cds, no stocks in this bucket? Sorry to bother you with this, but I really appreciate your insights.
@HappyonMondayАй бұрын
@@zb2363 Yes, I have a high yield savings, CDs, and I-bonds in bucket #1. ☺

What will happen to so many people wanting to retire early and health insurance. After the outcome of the election, on the agenda is doing away with Obama Care. How will people be able to afford insurance if they are not eligible for Medicare. Very frightening.

@@jodihawley2024 It is frightening! Idk what will happen. I guess we wait and see!

I have seen many people retire without strategy after retirement. They live broke and die broke .

Early retirement with only $500,000...by the time you figure out it's not enough it'll be too late.
