I have personally raised both Timber Wolves and guardian breeds. I love both equally and personally have no preference as my animals are my children. As such just as with my human kids I have no illusions as to who and what they are. Could a guardian breed if exceptional take a large male North American Timber Wolf one on one? Yes they can. Would it be likely? No it would not. But they are the absolute best option to keep both livestock and the wolves safe. Actually combat between the two is not as prevalent as people think as in nature predators always weigh risk vs reward. If wolves see guardian breeds they know humans are not far away and will just move on to something easier and safer. All that said, there is no and I repeat NO single guardian dog that can take on and kill a Wolf pack. It is ridiculous to even say. A large wolf pack can kill a large male Grizzly. Complete frenzy killers. They don't care if they lose an eye or an ear. They keep fighting. Wolves aren't fighters, they're hunters. @@FeatheredFosterBirds Himalayan ones can reach 120lbs, but it's very rare. That's close to max timber wolf size for big males. The largest one in the wild in the last 60 years was like 139lbs. The biggest wolf of all time was found in 1939 and was 175lbs. Their size is overblown. They're tall and long, but very slender. Only in captivity do they generally exceed 120lbs. Himalayan wolves are more like 70-90lbs average. Rarer examples get up to 120lbs sometimes. Though I do actually appreciate you mentioning this, because if you'd hear Americans speak, you'd believe Himalayan and European wolves are all 25-35lbs, while timber wolves are all 270-350lbs. In reality, the difference between them is marginal. 15lbs Average, 10lbs maximum, and about 50-100psi in bite force. We have wolves in germany again, but some farmers are complaining to no end. The wolf proof fences are to expensive, the shepherd dogs could mistake a tourist and their chihuahua for a threat and blah blah blah. Other countries have to deal with wolves, why are they pretending that there is no way a country could deal with them. A farmer at the train complained that others blow wolves out of proportion, so there is obviously a way to make everything work. There was also a case where a bunch of sheep were killed and everyone was "see this is why we should shoot wolves again!!!11!1" and the culprit turned out to be a german shepherd dog...

A wolf is a different story. Some dogs can beat wolves. But they are rare, likes of Kangal, Alabai, Caucasian shepherd etc. can only beat a wolf in 1v1 fair fight but with no collars. Without collars there is no dog that can beat more than just 1 wolf. And with a collar a good shepherd for example a Kangal or Alabai can bring down a pack of wolves. Because wolves just simply cannot bite it

You cannot compare a natural predator with a domestic pet... A dog can have a bite like a Tiger's size and reach 100kg, but it has no chance even against the smallest Carpathian wolf. The wolf hunts in the pack and very intelligently and cruelly.. You can buy any strong breed and they tell you fairy tales but they have no chance against a pack of wolves! A shepherd's dog is not a race, a breed, but a long period of learning, training and growing up with the herd, even such dogs retreat before a pack of wolves or get killed... Shepherd dogs are not even like these dogs in the city, on which you throw money and from which kennels make money with of course, for some fairy tale... Shepherd dogs don't comb their hair, don't bathe, don't have collars, and rarely eat healthy food😊
@olukenyosamuel36582 ай бұрын
you knw that some dog breed are bred just for that purpose ? breeds like kangal, alabi, e.t.c the are bred to protect farms and herds from wolfs and other wild animals
@laganobrate32082 ай бұрын
@@olukenyosamuel3658 Let me explain it to you in a simple way, you buy a Kangal or Alibaji or Šarplaninac and bring him to look after the herd, what do you think if he could and would he last 2 weeks alone in the wilderness?... Of course he wouldn't! they are city dogs with the name Pastirski ovčar or whatever... Shepherd dog is not a type of breed but a long process of selection and learning and growing up with the herd. I currently have 7 mixed dogs that are only 61 cm tall at the withers, but they were selected so that not a single dog from the city would be a real threat to them, so whether it was a Kangal or a Pit, go around the normal world and ask the old shepherds to give you a dog that has been living for generations. performs a job better known as a shepherd watchdog
@Gambit7712 ай бұрын
@@laganobrate3208 You have contradicted yourself. You talk about wolves being in packs and training but you conveniently ignore that sheep dogs are trained and usually in a pack. Trained and bred over centuries for this one job. You haven't explained anything.
