Ironically, most wolves would make horrible “guard dogs”. They’re extremely shy of people, unless it was in a big pack or cornered it probably would just run away.

A friend of mine has a gray wolf, he’s seven now and so tame, affectionate and lovable. He’s calm and plays gently with my friends kids but he’s also HUGE! Their behavior has a lot to do with how their raised and treated, if you treat them with an alpha dominance, they will learn to challenge you for rank. If you just love them with positive reinforcement training, they take on a completely different demeanor.

We raised a 98% pure artic wolf-dog. Nikita helped raise our infant daughter, she would curl up and we would place our baby on her like a living boppy, and she was the safest baby in the world. Later, she would lie down next to the crawling baby, and as our daughter grasped her fur she would raise up and walk slowly, helping our daughter balance in her first steps. Nikita was so proud to show that she taught the baby to walk. No other canine like a wolf, incredibly smart, insightful and loving.

I've seen people with wolves walk around (Live in Quebec, Canada). You can tell straight away that they are wolves and not huskies/malamutes as they are HUGE and their faces are structurally different. I have never been attacked by any of them. They just followed their humans faithfully (leashed, mind you, but never tugging). It takes a special bond to forge such a friendship and a special person to understand how to maintain it. To those who lack reading comprehension: Wild animals are case by case, but the ones I've seen have been fine. If YOU saw one that wasn't fine, congratulations, you've found a case that was typical of a wild animal doing wild animal things. Do you want a cookie? Also to those saying it's a common occurrence, it's NOT. Again, learn how to read. Saying "I've seen people with wolves walk around" does not equal "EVERYONE walks around with wolves". Go back to school, seriously.

Like I said, I wasn't attacked or shown aggression by either the one I was certain of or the wolf looking ones either.

Lies. This wolf's name is Akela and Andrei didn't find him small, but bought him as a puppy. Didn't find it but bought it. Akela is a ferocious wolf and there is a video of Andrei warning against acquiring wolves. He transported Akela to St. Petersburg, keeps him there in the aviary park. There is also the wolf Bratish, also dangerous, there are several wolves and wolfdogs, there are no coyotes. Andrei said that wolves are not affectionate, he just knows how to behave with them, he is a martial artist, otherwise he would not have coped with them. And the wolves appreciate it.

@Grant Archer Of course the human must remain the Alpha, that goes without saying! The wolf is in the home of its pack leader, the human. The wolf always knows that this is the domain of the human! The wolf is reliant on the human for food, again, their respective positions are clear, the wolf relies on the human for its home and its food, this is the ABC of caring for wild animals. I do not believe my comment to be inaccurate or ignorant, just because I didn't spell everything out from ABC doesn't mean than I'm unaware, it just means that I expect that the viewers are capable of reaching their own conclusions and are not unaware of the relationship between the human and wild animal.

Also know you are formidable and pissin you off is not a good idea. That is a demonstration best done when they are pups. It also only needs to be done once. But having said that my 12 pound terrier is 13 now and seems to think she should be the boss. Got that way after having puppies. But does head for her cage when she knows she went to far. I was always told that a dog is the best judge of character in the world, they can sense whether someone is going to be kind or not. Wolves are, as everyone knows from the dog family and like human babies, if they are shown love from the start, then their loyalty and affection in unconditional.

I love wolves. They are one of my spirit animals. We used to raise Samoyeds, which, as you may know, are a primitive breed, i.e., very genetically close to the white wolves of Siberia. I used to love to run with our pack. I've also met wolf companions of friends of mine, both half and full on wolf. I just love them. I miss howling at the full moon with them out in the desert. 💖💖

Why go back in time when we alredy made dogs outta wolfs....Dogs were just a loose category of wolves until around 15,000 years ago, when our ancestors tamed and began to manage them. We fed them, bred them, and spread them from continent to continent. While other wolf descendants died out, dogs grew into a new species. We invented the dog.

Beautiful! I wouldn't expect anything less because all dogs come from this big fella. Watching him play and interact is a mirror image of my young, 9mo (shepherd?) pup. And looks a lot alike. I still don't know what it is, but it has that fur. What a beauty! Hope it's all real and not bullshit. What is real is that furball is in love with his human and that you can't fake.

I get the same response with my German Shepherd Dog Thor. He is big even for a GSD (120 lbs) and everyone asks if he has wolf or is a bear in disguise. But he is gentle with people and small dogs, and even gets along with most big dogs and just wants to play with them. His best friend is a 4.5 pound Chihuahua named Chica.

I believe that there might be a deeper connection here. I think that it is the connection of the universe. Even the smallest molecule and atom, Rotate at a 360゚ circular motion, the the same way everything rotates around their sun... It gives us all the connection to not just each other but to the very celestial bodies that we have never even explored. This shows that we are all connected, whether it be man and woman, human or animal, animal or planets..

I had a Timber Wolf Doberman mix. When we played chase he would run & grab me around the waist, pull me down and while holding me to the ground hug & lick my face. He jumped our fence one day to protect my neighbors son from a pack of abandoned dogs. They were circling him growling menacingly. He fought half of them & the rest ran away. He then jumped back over the fence like nothing had happened. Loved him.

On the American plains there was once what was known as the Buffalo Wolf. Up to 250 lbs. But with the disappearance of the buffalo, so also went this predator. I used to know a hybrid named Lenon. He was 127lbs and magnificent. I am over 6', 3" and when he was up on his hind feet, he could look me straight in the eye. He ended up going to a sanctuary as neither his owner nor I could keep him. He was too strong for her and her kid was a monster that would have abused Lenon. I hope his life was good and better than I could have provided him.

This goes to show that its in the love thats shown and making sure that they know it. I have a great dane whos been through 3 different owners before me. She was treated poorly and abused, she ran at the sight of a root beer can and flinched at even a twitch. She was also very aggressive and stand offish and wouldnt let anyone touch her, she hated guys (myself included). Tenderly and and calmly growing closer to her has helped her to become one of the most angelic dogs you'll ever meet. She loves anyone and everyone now and is a blessing of a puppy. However this does not exclude the fact that sometimes discipline is needed, but have and show the right motive for the discipline, canines can understand a lot more than we think. Love them to death and be good to them and they will reciprocate it.

Wolves have more loyalty than a house pet, but that's why they deserve respect and kindness. A wild wolf won't attack you unless it feels threatened, in all honesty if you were to sit down with the jerky you've been eating on the hike and hold out a piece, it'd investigate a bit, and after a while trust you enough to take it. I know, because I've done it. It wasn't no coyote either, damn near as big as me at the time. I recall every time after that, when I hiked that trail, he'd come out if I howled, because the first day we bonded we howled together, his pack was okay with me, but seemed to not trust people fully, but trusted me enough from what they saw. Nicknamed him Gus, when we'd play he'd physically be gentle too, like he knew his strength. Ps: if you ever give a wild wolf jerky, make sure it's sun cured with salt only, it can also be smoked. But no pepper or jalapeno crap, that's food they haven't been exposed to. Could make em puke later. Think about them as a full on person. They need to trust you before you ever get to be around them. And part of that is understanding 2 simple things: 1. A wolf with a growl is talking, otherwise it would be howling. 2. A wolf bearing it's teeth with shorter more violent growls, is going to kill you. And a pack with cubs you should always avoid, unless by crazy chance you stumbled upon the cubs and already bonded with them a bit by playing, because they're more likely to play, the adults will see it and stand down. They will mostly only see you as a threat before you prove anything. This is the way the native people were, and it's a wise way to follow. You get less deserters, criminals, and lazy people. Funny how the so called "primitive world" was far more human and civilized than we thought. Pretty much anywhere any time, but Europe. Europe was just greed incarnate led by a fleeting doctrine that was altered on the Kings behalf so he was involved and had a golden pass. And that's trickled into modern society. I wish we all were a bit more like wolves. Stick together with who you know and trust and survive together. Only you and them. And anyone else has to earn that place with trust.

All animals go about their lives with intelligence and make decisions based on that intelligence. An animal can come to view any other creature including humans as family, if we take the action toward that animal, that it’s family would take. Family help one another survive, family care for one another, and family always have one another’s best interests at heart. If you treat a wolf or any animal this way, it will come to return these gestures and think of you as family. That’s been my experience and I truly believe that to be the case. I love this video. The bond between animal and human animal can be an amazing, beautiful, and fulfilling thing. It’s always nice to see.

Yes, but some of us wish to hunt and wild game to as part of our diets although to a lesser extent than wolves do since we evolved as omnivores. Unless, that is, we want to be completely domesticated. Domesticated animals are nice by pet standards, but inferior to their wild original ancestors by Nature's standards. And so it is with ourselves although sadly most humans today are grotesque forms of our former selves before the invention of agriculture.

Although protective and very capable, it’s giant size was enough to keep uninvited visitors on distance. Well trained and taken care of, those “dogs” makes perfect family companions. They are natural born family dogs, not altered into any thing else. They do haul. They are big and need a lot of space, food and general maintenance. Get only one, if you do.
