In today’s video, we seek to understand why women tend to report higher levels of religion and spirituality than men, as well as the historical role of faith for African-American and other minority groups. We speak on broadening research to include more qualitative & experimental studies, having a broader definition of ‘religion’, the role of mystical/spiritual experiences and positive outcome variables (as opposed to solely focusing on reduction of mental health symptoms). Finally I touch on maladaptive processes or negative ways that religion impacts adolescents through parental-child conflict and environmental mismatch (living in a country that is highly religious when a person is not). I use clips from ‘Bruce Almighty’, ‘Witches of Eastwick’, ‘War Room’, ‘Joan of Arc’, ‘The Rite’ and ‘We Bought a Zoo’.

This video didn't seem to be mostly about "why are women more religious." Seriously, this isn't a difficult question: In the US, women, along with poor people and minorities, tend to have a lot les autonomy and control over their own lives, and thus are much more amenable to believing in some sort of Big Man in the Sky who can intercede on their behalf. Also, it's extremely difficult to listen to you talk when you end about every sentence with the question, "....right?" Edit, or practice.

C’mon now, does anyone believe women can truly be religious? Here in the US I have a hard time finding anyone that’s religious unless they were born in another country or had family that were religious . And yeah as a Caucasian I do believe “minorities” are more religious here then my peers, but even then it seems to be that self worship and “do as thou wilt” mentality is still highly sought after. It’s honestly sickening to say the least. I genuinely don’t believe women are more religious from everything I’ve seen and all the hedonism going on. I am apart of a pretty terrible generation when it comes to religion though. I’ve seen most people fall into the traps that plagues GenZ and become completely toxic human beings. I definitely think things are getting way too secular

I don’t think things are secular enough. I find it hard to make friends, because almost everyone I meet is religious (and I live in the supposedly secular San Francisco Bay Area.)

@kova1577 Are you serious? I rarely meet anyone who isn’t religious, though I wish I could. And I live in the (supposedly secular) San Francisco Bay Area.)
