There’s a new surgery that everyone from Miley Cyrus to Lea Michelle, to Chrissy Teigen is appearing to undergo. It’s called buccal fat removal, which means they are sucking the fat out of their cheeks. I have some thoughts...

Doctors work for money and don't care much about the well-being of the patient, as long as they keep returning. A sick patient is a returning customer, as far as they're concerned. My best friend has multiple chronic illnesses and cannot get doctors to listen to her concerns, and her current physician has given up on her. But some self-absorbed actress could come in wanting an unnecessary procedure, and she'd get it in a heartbeat. I don't like or trust most doctors.

This is so sad. When I was younger, I was really insecure because of the media. I thought that celebrities all naturally looked beautiful, and that I would never look that way. I was saving up for plastic surgery as I got older, but then realized that I was never the problem. I became confident. This whole trend with heavy plastic surgery for celebrities has been taken too far, and is hurting our youth. This needs to stop.

A LOT of woke therapists out there these days who would view a rejection of plastic surgery as a superiority complex of some type because many have been under the knife themselves. If it's natural, it's attractive. It just isn't natural all that often. Michelle Pfeiffer still looks like she's in her mid-forties. At least in that godawful Ant-Man movie that just came out she was even though she's in her mid-sixties. However, I think that's her being smart and not taking a knife and chisel to her face every chance she gets. Drinking a lot of water, cutting down on seed oils, and protecting your skin from the sun will keep you looking younger than ripping out fat from your body. Why do women think looking like a Heroin addict is attractive. You know what I see when I see those sunken in cheeks, a man-faced woman.

This is one situation where I think following the money applies. There are people who make a lot of money from plastic surgery, any other cosmetic product, and from the health needs of unhealthy people as well as many of the products that cause obesity in the first place. If the marketers can convince someone she needs this or that product to be attractive or praised in some other way, they have made money, which can pay for more advertisements or more subtle influences, which we consumers then see portrayed as the beauty standards, etc. There is no money to be made off one’s natural self, so it won’t show up in marketing materials or such.

She's also smiling, and she smiles alot! So she has smile lines! So what? I have those too, it's no issue, and a couple of friends have made comments about my "eye wrinkles" that shouldn't be there in one's 20s. It makes me sad how focused with idealised looks so many people are nowadays. You cannot fight aging forever! It is what it is. I like mountain climbing, camping, being at the beach, drinking beer and partying. All of these things add stress to the facial skin. But that is life - it's called living it and enjoying it. Anyone who literally just lived their life and spends time outside and laughing in the sun will get some wrinkles and facial blemishes eventually. That's ok. Its a sign you're living. I see the people with plastic looking doll faces, no mark or fine line at age 35,40 and I think...is that really living? A clownish time we live in.

It’s so sad that women in our society are taught to equate their beauty to their worth. No one is going to love you because you’re beautiful. They may lust after you, but that’s about it. People will love you for what you have to offer and contribute to society and how you make others feel. Even when I think of my favorite characters in movies, it’s never the most beautiful one, it’s the one with the best personality, the one that makes me laugh and inspires me the most.

This IS the feminist high horse you should get on though! When you were talking about Emilia I completely remembered the Emma Watson story and I'm glad you brought it up again. I'm not gonna blame the pAtRiArChY, but it's so painful when voices in society, the media, etc., not only mock women for aging naturally, but also for getting plastic surgery to stop that aging process. It's nuts. Modern feminism focuses on all of the worst things, but this is one of the things that really needs to be called out more. THIS is what we should be talking about when we talk about body positivity.
@Bonesawisready926

Women could just stop being crazy and stop getting them, then the beauty standard would shift to a more realistic space. Why would you need feminism when it's completely women that are the problem. When women do dumb shit like take their facetune pictures into an office to get work done, that's crazy person behavior. If you can't take jokes about your appearance, get off social media. Everyone gets shit online. I don't see anybody writing stories about how bad it is to fat shame Russel Crowe or Vin Diesel, yet tons of people online did when unflattering pictures came out about them. So if we can't make fun of women for their appearance, stop making fun of men then too. But if you're gonna keep making fun of men, we are going to keep making fun of women. You wanted equality, stop complaining when you get it.

Beauty is like an arms race with thousands of participants. Maybe you could get everyone to agree to no makeup, no filters, no plastic surgery and no waxing (equivalent to signing a treaty). But there's no way you'd actually get people to stop. The personal advantages of winning are worth selling out the sisterhood. A lot of calling women out is trying to enforce the treaty. If artificial beauty has advantage and you don't rip people for it, then it's only upside. Then you get the toxicity of insisting women who are pretty are vacuous or weird fantasies in which they're bulimic and tortured. And the dynamic isn't the patriarchy. We don't have the level of attention to detail and it isn't men who buy magazines of celebrities highlighting food stains and cellulite and poor outfits. So a lot of it is trying to enforce a social order ("Jean is a bimbo", "Emma probably has her surgeon on speed dial", "Brittany's face would melt on a hot day" etc). But you could shortcircuit that if you created an idea around the dignity of an ordinary life and a kind personality. I think it means something that people would rather imitate a model than a modest life in which a person did okay and was loved by their family and friends.

@@a_hoodie What is this insane victim mentality? Men get viciously bullied by other men at a much higher rate than women do. It is crazy of you to assume that he probably hasn't been bullied because he's a dude. MOST PEOPLE get bullied, to one extent or another. The reality is, the bullying generally (not saying all the time, don't twist my words here) stays within the genders. The women usually bully other women and the men bully the other men. You might perceive the men's bullying, which is usually more direct, can resort to violence etc. as more "vicious". But I'd argue that the bullying that women usually do, talking behind their backs, reputation destruction, manipulation etc. is just as vicious in my mind
@a_hoodie
@a_hoodie Жыл бұрын
@@Luke-ud8et I don’t think you fully understood what I meant so let me try to clear things up. There is no victim mentality, I was simply stating that a lot of women’s insecurities can be caused by immature men ( some women yes, but not most of the time ). I’m not blaming men as a whole but immaturity, however men mature slower than women which is why it’s a bigger issue with men. You proved that by saying that “men get bullied by other men at much high rates then women” which is true, men do bully other men more then they bully women, but immature men outwardly bully women more often then immature women ( most of the time ) I never accused him of not getting bullied because he’s a man, everyone gets bullied. What I was saying was, that because he’s a man he wouldn’t understand the this issue as it is a women’s issue, that SOME men experience. He was quick to dismiss what was said about women being bullied by men simply because he hadn’t seen it or heard of it. Some guy friends of mine had posted a picture of a woman’s body in our group chat and absolutely tore into her appearance, they’re teenagers and immature. This kind of bullying is predominantly done by men to women. Yes women can destroy reputations but that is only done by immature women, and there is a lesser amount of immature women than men because women mature faster. I’m not blaming men, I’m blaming immaturity, which can be found in men more often than women. I too was bullied by men, for my small chest and butt, my pale skin, and my height. I’ve never been bullied by women though. Of course it happens to men, but usually from other men. It’s not in women’s nature to compare or compete. Insecure women compete and compare whereas confident men compete and compare. Confident women do not compete or compare because it’s in a woman’s nature to uplift and support. Confident men compete with other men for the love of a woman or just in general which is why men compare and bully more so than women. Insecure men however don’t really bully others, they usually put themselves down, most of the time. Men are also more straightforward, honest, and less agreeable and all of that combined with immaturity creates bully’s. When men mature they grow out of it, it just takes longer for that to happen. I hope that makes more sense

I'm a film director, just starting out and making my first film. It does have a female protagonist. And want her to look natural, be feminine, be normal. I do not want the actress playing this character to have work. There will be scenes where she won't have make-up on, she won't look her best. And that is okay. That's real. I do not want to portray plastic people, playing plastic characters. Realness is what the world needs right now. Real. Natural. Kind. Good. Don't be something you're not, don't hurt others. Art isn't perfect. Ladies aren't perfect. As a heterosexual male I am aware of this fact. I like normal, natural looking ladies and an occasional wrinkle on the face is okay. I can still make that look beautiful on screen. Beauty isn't about plastic surgery and looking perfect, beauty is shining from the eyes and being good, being so kind that you are loved by the people in your life. If a man doesn't like you for what you are in that moment. Don't get plastic surgery, move on and find a better man. Because that guy is an idiot! Don't change your appearance to please others. Be who you are in that moment. That is beautiful. I wouldn't just tell my daughter this, I don't have children at the moment. I would tell actors this I work with. My films will be beautiful because of the natural look of my actors. The realness is the appeal. Let's change this junk and let's all just be real, natural and kind. Kindness is what makes you beautiful, not the shell.

I've been saying this for years with all these new cosmetic trends, e.g. botox - people (particulary, but not exclusively, women) keep trying to make themselves look more beautiful and in the process end up making themselves look hideous. It's tragic

I’m 36 and I feel like I look 50 because of seeing influencers and actresses. I get Botox (since I was 26) and I got filler for the first time about a month ago. The girl doing my Botox said if I didn’t get filler I’d need plastic surgery ( which will never happen bc I don’t have a lot of money) It’s so sad for women. I can not afford these procedures, they don’t last long, who knows what we are doing to our bodies and I still feel old bc I don’t look 21 anymore. I know I’m not the only woman my age who hates all of this. I love watching old movies bc a lot of the women look normal.

One of the most frustrating things about being a right leaning woman means it's hard to critique stuff like this without being lumped with feminists. Like I've heard all my life that guys prefer "natural women" yet the guys that say that were always the first to be critical of woman's natural faces. I've had horrible acne for most of my life. After I finally got my acne somewhat under control, im still stuck with all the scars. There were plenty of critical women but at least they'd judge silently. A lot of guys told me I should wear makeup.
@mrscharmless

Just ignore them, they don’t know what they want. They realize makeup is deceitful because it warps your facial features, but they also want your facial features to naturally look like you have makeup on. There is no winning this unless you’re extremely beautiful, which most women by definition just are not.

I gotta agree with this. I haven't called myself a feminist since 2005, been critical of the current movement ever since, but in this case just because I disagree with someone in general it doesn't mean they're _always_ wrong. I hate that the left and right seem to have taken such black and white stances on issues such as this one. Almost as if to just spite one another. It's just a childish game of "Oh, the other side believes [this]? Well I think [complete opposite]!". I can't believe we've gotten to the point where "hey, don't bully a woman for looking/aging like all normal people do" is somehow considered a feminist/leftist stance. Wut? Just can't win. While I am right-leaning, this is one of the dark sides of it that I am baffled by. When did such a silly thing become a stance associated mostly with the online political-right? I hope it's just a vocal minority and not widespread. Either women get mocked for looking fake with plastic surgery, or they age gracefully with what they were born with and are still met with a yuck when they develop a few extra lines. Which is it, people? Can't be both. Emilia Clarke and Emma Watson look like completely normal human beings, exactly the way they should be. And to @Kendra Braun, kindly point me in the direction of the people making you feel awful for your acne scars. I'm about to channel my inner GrandpaDecember and give them an awful verbal lashing...

@@LadyDecember I was also very taken aback by some of the recent tweets about Emilia Clarke hitting the so-called wall. There is quite a bit of vitriol (I think inspired by a general sense of resentment towards women and the current dating sphere) in certain right-wing spaces, which is very unfortunate, especially when they identify as Christians. Is it really that surprising that women physically age with the passing of time? Why are we making such a fuss about fine lines?

I thought the Emilia Clarke part was a continuation of the surgery convo. I paused the video to figure out what was wrong, cause she looks great. After continuing the video to find out it's because she looks just "bad" but likely all-natural, I went back. And she looks a bit older than she is, but a couple of aneurysms will do that to someone. And even with a few lines, she looks beautiful and more importantly, happy.

8:42 i genuinely think that this woman with her big joyful smile, kind smile eyes, bed hair and wrinkles looks much much much more beautiful than the women who have changed every natural feature on their face to look more beautiful now do. Those wrinkles beside her eyes and on her smile lines tells me that she is a happy woman who has smiled and laughed a lot in her life. Every single wrinkle that u have on ur face from aging are the signs of the experience u had throughout ur life

I have this look. I didn't get it done by a surgeon. I have a cheek biting habit and it's real bad and the indie of my cheek is gone. I also have dentures because my teeth suffered while growing up and it gives the look. I have to say I hate it. I've always hated that I look like that and now it's a trend.
