My social media feeds are filled with women getting every kind of injection filler, and surgery to alter appearances. What was once a secretive and less talked about phenomenon is becoming increasingly popular and normalized in our generation. Is social media to blame for this rise in plastic surgery?

A generation so focused on body positivity, yet so insecure about their own looks that plastic surgery becomes the short term solution to the problem 🤔

I’m small chested, and was always self conscious about it. However, I was successfully able to nurse 3 children for 12-15 months each, and they were all healthy and thriving. Having children gave me such a deep appreciation for my body in ways that plastic surgery never would have done.

The more people get used to changing something easily purely for vanity, they will spiral at some point. Its harder to deal with aging and all the things that come with it at increased speed later, when you erase every little flaw early before that right away...at some point you cant fix stuff anymore...and then you get Madonna, who is still trying instead of letting go. We age in stages so we can get used to the change in our look. We dont just wake up one looking 80...that would be brutal. But people who try to look 20 until they are 80 will have a melt down for sure.
@unit38421

@@calistafalcontail Exactly. Because they don't learn how to deal with it in a 'natural' manner, and they risk becoming more reliant on surgical intervention to solve those problems. Eventually, the surgery can't keep up any more, assuming it ever could, but acceptance can. That is without even getting into the direct side effets of cosmetic surgery.

As a 25 year-old, I am only now starting to feel confident in my body. I’m finally starting to leave the awkward young-adult phase where I didn’t feel quite like I fit into my body. Social media absolutely is feeding into this and it’s so sad, especially when a lot of the women who have plastic surgery ALSO USE FILTERS AND PHOTOSHOP. And it’s lazy. Don’t like the size of your butt? Instead of working on yourself either mentally or physically like going to the gym and building muscle, they jump into surgery.

You know the worst part about all this cosmetic surgery to me, is that it doesn't work. Here's a warning to any women who are thinking about it. As a man who is atracted to women, 9/10 times you were much prettier before the surgery or botox. Us guys like a woman who is able to smile much more than one with no wrinkles. We like one with body parts that match and were grown normally than one who is out of proportion. It isn't worth it. You're already pretty, you just need to learn to see it. And if you start down the road of cosmetic surgery, do you think you'll ever stop? If you can't learn to accept yourself, no amount of surgeries will be enough. You will always be able to find that 'one thing' that 'needs to be fixed' over and over and over. It's just sad.

PREACH BROTHER. I have made this point a few times myself. While attracting us shouldn’t be a woman’s only goal, if that is the goal the plastic surgery is not the way. Trout pout is a MAJOR turn off. Botox makes people look like cretins who can’t even control their own face anymore. I don’t want my daughter subjected to that. Godspeed natural women out there you are still winning.

As a woman, plastic surgery looks awful to me too most times than not. I mean, you see fresh young girls turn into fourty year old corn stars and for what reason? I get that there are some men who like that look but I'm 100% certain that most men prefer the pretty girl next door look than the bimbo barbie look. I dont know, I think as a woman you grow up thinking that men only like women who are 90 lbs with ridiculous curves and so you think that your "average" body is not enough and this is a hard mindset to break. I myself am on the chubbier side and although I've had men interested in me i still feel undesirable. I get why those women do it because unfortunately the pressure to be beautiful is tremendous for women but it makes me sad.

This plastic surgery issue is seriously out of control. I have a downturned nose and even though I had come to terms with its existence, people keep talking with me about it all the time like "You have a job and money. Why don't you get plastic surgery?" and it has started to effect me all over again. I used to be a very sickly kid and I have went under the knife for many lifesaving procedures for my heart and kidneys. I don't want to experience that trauma all over again just because of the way my nose looks. I don't want to mess with a properly working, healthy organ but seeing that even a 15 year old kid is telling me to get plastic surgery is starting to get beyond draining. People should just learn to shut up and let others live peacefully.

The way I see it is that people function as mirrors and therefore they will reflect their own insecurities, hatred on others. on others. When I was younger I also felt insecure about my nose because it wasn't perfect like everyone else's. and then I grew up and started to love my profile and my imperfect nose. At that moment I stopped caring what people could tell me. I know it's annoying when people criticize you but you have the right to tell them to stop talking about your body as if they had the right to an opinion, it's called setting limits and it's healthy. Don't change because of other people's criticism, people will never be satisfied with you or with themselves. 😁

Living in the UK and being around europeans was one of the best confidence boosters about my nose. It was so refreshing to be around people who looked beautiful without having the perfect nose, lip, face or even body shape. Honestly I recommend watching more European or English films or something. It's something I do when I'm feeling too down about my looks because seeing a bunch of girls I think are pretty but wouldn't be put to screen in the US really boosts my confidence. Also no one ever commented on my nose when I was in the UK which is something I was used to hearing from strangers in the US. Although I did have an old lady rage at me and the US culture for making European girls feel like they needed a small button nose, blonde hair, big eyes, and perfect teeth. Ironically I don't have any of those and kind of agreed with her

To each their own, of course. I am thankful to a friend I had when i was in my 20s (she was in her 30s) who asked me, “Do you really want to look like everyone else?”, when I mentioned wanting a nose job. The grossest part to me is that people have shamed me for saying that it's not good for your mental health to get cosmetic procedures like this done, that's how deep the brainwashing has gotten. I always hear the argument that it's empowering for women to fix their insecurities, but that in and of itself is such an insecure perspective. The empowering thing to do would be to accept your flaws and love yourself anyway. Unless in the case of some sort of disfigurement, I don't think people should be getting any plastic surgery done to themselves. It not only affects their own self perception, but it also affects the self perception of others, especially young girls. I appreciate you talking about this topic. I always see a lot of young female viewers in your comment section, and they really need to hear what you're saying. From a 26 year old woman, it does get better! We all hated our bodies growing up, it is perfectly normal and you don't need to change your body to be beautiful.

I'm 21 so GenZ and I have changed my body. How? By fucking working my ass off. I'm a trail runner and climber, I've just today finished a skyrace and I've taken 17 minutes less than last year. Three weeks ago I climbed the hardest route of my life. The real problem with our generation is that we don't wanna work for stuff. We want change immediately, without the pain, the sacrifice, the struggle. I have been training so hard to get these result, and my body has changed. I now feel much more at peace with my looks, I can say I have a great body that I'm proud of. And I'm proud of it only cause I know how much time and money and effort and suffering I've put myself through in order to get to this point. Getting plastic surgery doesn't solve your self-esteem problems cause you don't work for it. Get into the hospital, get anaesthesia, go back home. That's it. And then you expect to have all your problems solved. Nah man you just made them worse. Bet 99.8% of people who get plastic surgery don't feel better about themselves after a couple of months. We as a generation want things to always be perfect just because we feel like we deserve it. It really pains me. And I even get sometimes hate for being so obsessed for putting myself out of the comfort zone.

I am a 6' 5" guy and have never understood why people want to be tall. Once you get so tall it becomes incredibly difficult to find clothing that fits (clothing companies assume everyone just gets wider not taller), you deal with constant neck and back pain from having to look down at everything and people CONSTANTLY staring at you. I don't wish to be shorter cause this is how I was made to be. When it comes to looks people need to accept who they are and stop changing their image to please others.

I had a relatively large nose for my face when I was in middle school. I was always insecure about it, even in high school. I'm 26 now and I love my nose. It's strong, unique, and it fits my face. I feel a sense of resonance with it because it's mine and only mine. The saddest part about plastic surgery is that it standardizes the look of humanity. It literally mitigates what makes you look like you. There's something inherently spiritual about the faces and body types we are born into. It's like they are symbolic of who we are. And yet some people call altering (and often harming) them self-love. It's ass-backwards.

As time has passed, each additional piece of artwork has had even more significant meaning to me and is almost like a story of where I came from and where I've been, the situations that have made me into the man I am today. Have I changed in the course of all that time? Absolutely. But unlike so many people who get inked and then come to regret it, I have no regrets for any of mine because every one is a reminder of a part of my life that was very significant to me.

What’s really amazing to me is that-very often-the lip injection thing is plainly obvious, and intensely unappealing. A lot of men, at least the men with values and sensibility, find overly-adorned or altered looks unattractive in general. The giant fake eyelashes, the kool-aid hair coloring, the cheesy hair extensions, the stupid lip plumping; it all comes across as desperate. Most of us aren’t at all into the ‘hey, look at me’ type of girls.

Most girls who do these things end up looking either like drag queens or blow-up dolls. Not a good look at all. Even worse still are those butt enhancements - sorry ladies, but nobody will want you if you're stick thin with an artificial rear end as big as a spring pig at the county fair. As women who get their butts artificially pumped-up start to age, it looks like they're wearing a loaded diaper. With any permanent surgery, always ask yourself, "will this still be hot in 30 years? Is it even hot now? And does it actually make me happy long-term?"

I would tell any man or woman considering this for cosmetic reasons, DO NOT DO IT! I had this done on my left femur when I was a child because a car accident damaged my left leg to the point it wasn't growing as fast as my right. I had a 7 1/2 cm lengthening so I wouldn't have a permanent limp, and it was a year long process. Not to mention, the most excruciating pain I ever endured. Now I do have even legs which I'm thankful for but risks include infections (which became almost life threatening) scarring, nerve damage, and muscle damage. It is NOT WORTH IT!

I wrote a research paper about this topic for my English class back in CC. It's honestly so sad and terrible. There is a really strong correlation between snapchat filters/filters in general with young women. It isn't surprising if you think about it though. GenZ is probably the only generation that grew up with a device that offered them a distorted/"better" view of their faces (small noses, flawless skin, no wrinkles, bigger eyes, etc.). I'm honestly so glad I didn't have a smartphone until I was 17 (back in like 2012). Def know my future kids aren't having access to this kind of tech until their brains are more developed smh

At 20, I'm already having back and shoulder pains, especially when I don't sleep quite right. It sucks. The one thing that is nice about it is that I'm generally pretty curvy, at least as of right now, and my chest and stomach look about even. I would not say that you make it your insecurity but rather work on your insecurities. Remember nice personality traits are very hard to come by they are very hard to cultivate. But when you work on yourself and you have the objective beauty; the world becomes even more easier. Work on yourself and remember even though you’re 13, you having the sense of what is wrong and what kills your confidence is the fact that you’re much more mature than others kids who are playing with barbiedolls and video games. It’s been the best decision I’ve ever made, truly. I feel more like myself, more confident, and oddly enough I feel like once I had it done I actually started “living” - if that makes sense. I was crippled by judgement and embarrassment, and facial dysmorphia. I always feared meeting new people or potential romantic relationships. Thank you so much for talking about this, and thank you for not getting a nose job! The more people get nose jobs the more a regular nose looks “too big” or “weirdly shaped”, and then people with larger noses look even more “different” and the insecurities just never end 🙄🤦‍♀️noses of all shapes and sizes are beautiful!! Same goes for all the other features and procedures. And if everyone gets plastic surgery everyone just looks identical, and that would be truly disgusting 😳 Variety is beautiful, individuality is beautiful! We as a culture seem to support that idea when it comes to skin tones(as we should) so why not all other natural features???

I was born with a mild case of cerebral palsy. This caused me to have weakness in my legs and several balance issues. Though I would often ask God why I was born like this, I was never ashamed of myself. A while later, I got the answer to my question. My parents told me that people wouldn't accept me into certain preschools because of my disability. One thing led to another, and this brought my family to a Christian church, where we got saved. Now, I know that this is long-winded, but here's the point: Never be ashamed of what you do or do not have. I learned from a very early age because of my disability to be content with the body God has given me. These other people are modifying themselves like nobody's business, and they're miserable. Better to be happy with what you have

My take on plastic surgery: get it only if it’s needed. If you’re just insecure about something, save your money. But there are a couple where PS is a good idea. First one is after a serious injury. A couple years ago, Wendy from the K-pop girl group Red Velvet tripped and fell off a stage. As a result of the fall, she had a lot of facial injuries. She had PS to restore her face to what it was before the accident. The other scenario is chest size for women. I don’t support enlarging your breasts to appeal to the male gaze-studies have actually found that men who prefer larger breasts tend to be less successful than men who prefer smaller breasts or men who don’t care about breast size in a partner. But I do support breast reduction. I have a friend who got a breast reduction in her sophomore year of HS. She was never outwardly insecure about her chest size, but after she had them reduced, I noticed that she was standing up straighter. A lot of women have back problems because their breasts are so large, so for those women, I would say that a breast reduction would be a good idea for them. Then there’s the things that are very preventable, and this is targeting specifically Botox. If you take care of your skin, you won’t have to worry about wrinkles. Skin care is less expensive and far less dangerous than BOTULINUM TOXIN. At the end of the day, people are free to do what they want with their bodies. Just make sure that if you do get cosmetic surgery done that it’s for the right reasons.

If you know whats foretold then you can be prepared. We are now conditioned to reject everything natural. From aging, to biological sex, to how kids are made (surrogates, sperm donations), to the family unit...we are told we are all powerful and all our desires are above everything...then we mix our obsession with perfection and vanity with AI so at some point we arrive at transhumanism...the ageless, "immortal and all powerful" being...its basicly demonic in essence. The false promise that humans can be God (how it started) and they will compromise their soul in the process.

I do need to do a nose job but... right now (17) I believe it's better to finish my growing phase which I think is until 22, maybe then I'll feel comfortable enough to spend my money on a nose job that may harm me more than I am now... I was told and explained what surgical procedures are since I was 14 years old by my good parents ❤ Also if anybody cares: I'm starting to workout so I'll look a little better and after the military I'm planning to find a good-paying job, then find a wife and raise my kids the correct way (no internet until 13 or at least 11 depending if the 100 genders and body fatness bulshit will be out of the media...)

Honestly, whether you're seen as pretty or not by social media, you will always look better with your natural features than with any plastic surgery you could get. In my personal opinion, girls mistreat their bodies to reach a certain goal and completely ignore the beauty they have right then. You also have to keep in mind that your confidence and personality will play a major role in how people perceive you. There was a side my side video if this woman acting shy versus acting confident and goofy and she appeared more attractive to most when she acted confident. It's cheesy, but love yourself and others will love you. It's much better to have somebody that loves you for you rather than the facade that you put on.

For the longest time I always hated how my face looked. I’ve struggled with Acne and started medicine for it. I always wanted to put on makeup to cover my flaws. One time I was getting ready for a dance that my friends invited me to. One of the moms really liked to do makeup and was really good at it. She put some on me and I didn’t feel like me. I hated it. I learned to love my freckles, 24/7 sunburned nose, and even my acne, I learned how to love myself. It makes me sad to see that society is pressuring men and woman to changes the way God made their bodies.

I came to terms with women getting breast-enhancements. Being in gym culture it's really common, since having really low body fat means you get really flat-chested. That's excusable, you're just altering something that's basically all fat (And as a dude, I won't complain XD) But all these other ones, the lips, nose, cheeks, etc. have never actually looked good and I wish women would stop destroying themselves

I think we have gotten so used to the idea if you aren’t happy you can buy yourself a new face/body as if it isn’t a massive decision. I had a nose job 7 years ago, and this came after YEARS of contemplation, planning, saving, and working through insecurity. For me, it was one of the best decisions i’ve made for myself - not because I was buying myself a new nose on a whim in order to fit a new trend, but because it was something I had truly thought about and considered for such a long period of time that I was certain that this was the right choice for ME personally. That being said, I can agree that cosmetic surgery has become such a common and trivial/normalized thing for women especially. It’s quite sad the pressures people feel to fit into a societal mold of being “beautiful”. For me, getting my nose done allowed me to stop fixating on every single flaw I have. It allowed me enough relief that I was able to take a step back and accept myself for who I am. That being said, I think there are a lot of people who get plastic surgery and then go the opposite way of “ok what next”. I think you really need to consider this very carefully and you need to do some soul searching and self work. For me, cosmetic surgery was an act of self love - however, I do not believe this is the case for many people who seek it. I definitely do not recommend cosmetic surgery to others just because it was the right choice for me personally. It is a very personal choice and I think society has allowed it to become way too mainstream.

He refuses to get psychiatric help bc then his parents will know he’s struggling and doesn’t want to be seen as the “mentally unwell kid” and feels everyone else looks normal. He says he’s skinny and and looks like a freak. It breaks my heart. TW: He’s tried to h@ng himself multiple times. So, since he refuses to get help, lives in a 3rd world country and can only afford hair removal which is literally $5. He can’t afford creatine, he doesn’t wanna ask his parent for money bc they’d know. He turns 20 today. He doesn’t wanna get older, he doesn’t even enjoy his bday. He gets comments about his appearance and literally sees comments on Reddit that say 5’2 men should “k!ll themselves” bc life can’t be good as a 5’2 guy. This is what our young people are being told and it is FALSE! I used to be in love with a 5’2 guy! And what’s crazy is that bc of his confidence and presence, I literally thought he was taller than me. 🤦‍♀️🤣 But that confidence is HOT. Embrace yourselves, people. I’m not here to judge bc I’ve wanted to change things too. But I definitely believe men feel they can’t talk about this stuff and it breaks my friggin heart. Go easy on folks. Go easier on yourself.
