There is also a financial benefit to respond to a contentious topic-- he will get lots of views and "engagement" in the comments. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, just that there are other, secondary motives.

@@swere1240sorry but proper competition drives pricing, think about it, Henry Ford paid the highest wage while making an affordable automobile, he later was a douche but it still blows the argument that labor is the driving factor out of the water. Before competition in product quality, along with competition in labor benefits drove high wages with lower cost quality good, now we have crap crap and more crap with varying prices based on the name brand and customer loyalty to it and warranty offered. The pride aspect is gone, the competition aspect is gone cause secret meetings between competitors to set pricing occur in violation of anti trust laws and our gov does nothing about it.

I think you're making all very good points. Something that would be interesting to focus on, is how much does the Chinese government subsidize Chinese manufacturers. Or, even possibly own the company themselves, with most of the motivation to be the drive everyone out of the market so no one is left except them. If they do drive everyone out of the market, then would they increase their prices like John Deere and other domestic manufacturers have done? Our country has antitrust laws safeguarding against this, but I don't think they work very well, because all the major manufacturers price their equipment pretty closely, and pretty high... So in the long run that may not make any difference but it would be interesting to explore this idea.

After seeing what it was going to cost to rent equipment to dig my garage foundation unrealized I could buy a slightly smaller machine and do it myself and have a useable piece of equipment in my garage after the job was done. I now have a 2.5ton mini excavator and a mini-skid steer for less than renting would have cost me. Both my machines can be almost completely rebuilt with common parts from Amazon. I have a welder and a grinder so I can fix just about anything not available on Amazon. I've since used them to dig new irrigation lines, add another line to my septic, dig the foundations for my 36 panels ground mount solar array, bury the 2" conduit for the solar panels back to my inverter. There's basically no job on my property that I can't do on my own now. After welding a hook to the bucket I used it as a crane to lift my 380lb battery arrays out of their packing crate and pallets.

We have lost the majority of manufacturing to the rest of the world. Like you said, government regulations and taxes and corporate greed. The other is the greed of the employees. This will get me some pushback. Labor Unions are a issue now in America. They had their time and place when they were needed, but now not so much. Every strike, every pay increase hurts the employer, consumer, and the employee. The one that walks away with fat pockets are the Union leaders. Yes the employee got a raise but what they are producing just went up for everyone. For those that didn't get that nice pay raise just got hurt from the raise that Union worker just got. Labor is the driving force behind all of this. We are making more but have lost alot over the years. Companies use to have profit sharing and good insurance, heck even had dinners a few times a year to say thank you. Now its all about how much can I make for little work. We all cant be the Chief.

@wildbill23c

The $50k machine will do the job, but it'll eventually break down like every other machine from wear and tear, or damage/broken parts....people get so wrapped around a brand name/color that they cannot see past it and realize these other machines for less money will do the same work, for far less money, and still break down over time, and can still be fixed, a lot of these no-name machines share parts across other brands, and parts can be had for a lot cheaper and just as quick because of the world wide web.

Howdy Brock! You made some valid points. The whole China thing is so complicated. The bottom line is - if it is financially feasible I try to buy American when I can. If I can't, I try to buy from any overseas company but Chinese. If I can't, then I bite the bullet. One of the popular complaints about tariffs is the cost is passed to the consumer. Well yes and no. The manufacturer will eat a percentage of that tariff based on how much it affects their competitiveness. If a 10% tariff pushes their price 9% over the competition, then they will eat that 10% to keep their market share. If the situation warranted it, I would probably buy one of these imports. Most of the components are going to already be mass produced and used in lots of other machines. A Yanmar engine is a Yanmar engine. Parts will always be available. Components of the hydraulic system are going to be made with readily available easy to get parts - that is how they can sell the overall unit so cheap. I can't see there being many proprietary components... hell the Chinese tend to steal and copy half the known world already, so you might be surprised what will fit lol. Where tariffs get passed on to the consumer is on machines like these, where they are already so much cheaper than the competition, they can increase the price and still be significantly cheaper. Another is on products that use components from overseas but is included in an otherwise domestically assembled product. Ugh... this is too much thinking for a Monday morning... well done and stay the course 🤠

If I owned a construction company that used the heck out of the equipment, I would only be looking at the brand names due to track record, dealer network, ease of getting parts, and warranty. As a homeowner, I don't have that same budget and I'm certainly not going to be running it as hard. That makes these lower priced units at least a consideration. Several of these cheaper brands now have dealer networks where I can go for warranty and parts. Of course, as soon as you have that available, the price goes up, so these are going to be the higher end of the low-cost machines.

Some good points Brock. In addition to things like warranty, dealer support, parts availability, etc., I would also throw into the mix the differences in equipment operating experience. Yeah, they will both dig a hole, but my experience with Chinese machines and machines like Kubota is like comparing a Lexus to a Yugo ..... they might both get you from point A to point B (if the Yugo is still running), but the drive in the Yugo is brutal while the Lexus is silky smooth and satisfying. The value of that difference isn't zero.

Long Long ago I was a child. Fish hooks were very important, and I valued each and every single fish hook. American fish hooks cost four times more than Asian fish hooks. American fish hooks were virtually never bent by a fish. Asian fish hooks were frequently straightened by fish. I always preferred American fish hooks, but on occasion I had to buy Asian fish hooks. My choice was clear. I was going to fish. When I could not afford Asian fish hooks, I tried to make my own fish hooks. Of course, Heavy Equipment is much more complicated than a fish hook. Nevertheless, in my opinion, the analogy of fish hooks and Heavy equipment helps to clarify this situation.

It did every thing I asked it to do. The finish was not as good as Kubota but the metal was very heavy. A Chinese forum helped me do any repairs if I needed. And cross over filters etc. to Canadian parts. My only issue was if I needed a part I had to order from Texas. I sold it 6 years ago because I needed a cab model. I never regretted buying it. When I sold it I got 80% of what I paid for it.

Walmart insists on paying only $1.75 to a manufacturer in china for a non stick fry pan, so walmart can make a profit of about $9.00 when the junk fry pan is sold at $ 10.97. American consumers expect the chinese manufacturer to spend at least 4 dollars to make each of these fry pans for better quality, that means the manufacturer should act as a charity and be happy to lose $ 2.25 for each fry pan they make. Thats American mentality. What can American manufacturers make with $ 1.75? 😂

I would much rather buy American, but I simply cannot afford it anymore, and now days a lot of what you get from “Made in America” is just as bad of junk as the made in China stuff, just cost you more. Bring manufacturing back to the US, keep the prices low, elect politicians that don’t just care about their pockets thus causing inflation and perhaps bring quality and then I will buy more American made products.

Price is a major factor that anyone interested in using expensive equipment will definitely take into consideration when making a purchase. It's reasonable to show the capabilities of that equipment and you can use that information to compare it to currently available equipment and their really high prices. I recently (within the last 9 months or so) purchased a USED Takeuchi TB240. This is a Japanese company. But is a very common brand in the US. They are priced comparably to the other brands. Bobcat is Korean company. Kubota is a Japanese company. John Deere is a US company. Caterpillar is a US Company. JCB is a British company. Komatsu is a Japanese company. Kobelco is a Japanese company. (headquarters in Netherlands) Hitachi is a Japanese company. Volvo is a Swedish company. Sany is a Chinese company. Case is a US company. Hyundai is a Japanese company. Kato is a Japanese company. Liebherr is a German company. Link-Belt is a US Company, but a subsidiary of a Japanese company (Sumitomo Heavy Industries). XCMG is a Chinese company. So you can only buy John Deere, Case, and Caterpillar or you hate our country?? Look, you buy the equipment that makes sense for you. It would be based on both financial, reliability, capability, and features. United Rentals (where I bought my used Takeuchi TB240) is a United States company. They buy a very large amount of equipment all over the United States and best I can tell they primarily have Takeuchi equipment. I'm willing to bet they as a business need to buy equipment that is reliable, serviceable, capable, and has the features that customers want. With that said, you have companies like John Deere have issues like the desire to keep the worker from working on their own equipment. Overpriced repairs due to the cost of parts and labor. They also don't make their machines with only US manufactured parts. Even United Rentals recently quoted me $8,200 to replace bushings, seals, and pins for the used excavator they sold me. Mind you I only paid $30,000 for the machine. So nearly 1/3rd the cost of the machine to replace wear items that are meant to be replaced. That quote came with 30 hours of labor which is highly excessive. Either way, equipment is expensive, and as a by product paying someone to use their equipment to do work for you is expensive. Which drives up the cost of construction, which increases the costs of homes/road repair/land clearing/drainage/etc. It'll affect everything from the cost of a piece of property to the cost of taxes as that equipment used by the cities/counties need to be paid for. Anyone complaining about promoting cheaper products should consider starting their own business and making their own cheap equipment for mass production. We clearly don't have enough reasonably built and priced US equipment companies.

You made fair points. Sorry you got beat up. A reasonable person must agree with what you say because you’re saying reasonable things. One of the things overlooked in this argument is that “greed is universal”. The world economy is based on greed and slavery. Selfish people take advantage of paying impoverished people as little as they can “get away with” legally. Thats why slavery existed in this country at one time, and still exists throughout the world. Even in China, corporate greed is paramount. Things are more expensive here because there are “minimum rights” in the USA. This is not true in other places. The cheap things we buy are at the cost of impoverished people working for a couple dollars a day in other countries. But we still want the things we want so we buy cheap things. This is a different kind of greed. You’re right, we all have budgets and we only have a certain amount of money to spend. If things were close in price, most of us would only buy American. But things are not close in price. We can only afford what we can afford.

As a homeowner and the sole provider for my family, I’m MUCH more likely to pick up one of those $8K Chinese mini excavators than buying a USA-made one for >4X the price. At the end of the day, it’s my responsibility to make my dollar stretch further so that my family has more.

i think what most people have an issue with chinese products is all company's arent just an individual company its the chinese goverment because they own every buisness and there all ran by the PRC. dont worry about what people are saying man there all just looking for reason's to complain about stuff because there not happy so nobody else can be happy on there watch. and your right about differnt not all chinese stuff is built equally. im sure the stuff they build for there market is much better. i mean people used to think the type 56 chinese ak-47s were cheap but there one of the best ones ever built.

This is sounding a lot like how Kymron started. They started in Oklahoma also but now they have a dealer network. They started with the small mini excavators then expanded to medium and large mini-ex’s then they made skid steers and cranes. They are Chinese excavators upgraded to higher specs and they have 2-3yr warranties. Google search or KZbin search them they seem good.

Regulation is the only way to make corporate America actually provide affordable healthcare, and equal pay. Until that happens, the MOST PRODUCTIVE EMPLOYEES IN THE WORLD, will never be treated properly. Everyone always talks about "well they had a drop in profit so wages will fall" that's not how American's should look at this. The employer ALWAYS has the option of reducing profit to keep their employees at a respectful pay range. That's an option never taken. You can blame the stock market, competition, neive employees (ding ding ding), but nobody ever blames the owners/boards of directors, that actually make this choice. Until us individual workers stand up for our worth, we'll continue to be railroaded. Both to our employers, and the politicians that can make these changes.

Well as a business owner this is how i approach it. Is it a product or tool I'm going to rely on or not? I bought many tools that i use only a couple of times a year. I'm not spending 5 or 6 times the amount for something that is going to sit in the corner. Examples i have used core drills, welders, and etc. I know several people that have ties to chinese manufacturers directly. They have told me just like here you can get what you pay for. They have cheap quality manufacturers and they can range to really high end. The issue with the high end from china is expensive to I have some experience using their high end dedicated manufacturer and you get what you pay unfortunately the US market didn't even have anything available.

Either way, being able to talk about something without the politics of it is rare and I wouldn't t want to take the exposure you are willing to. Have you thought about taking the same kind of dives into the used market? Talking to mechanics and salesmen about which models had less problems than others? It all breaks eventually.

Appreciate your candor! I'm old enough to remember people complaining about Japanese stuff in the 80s. I bought a Datsun (now Nissan) F10 in 1979 because Chevy Vega's were dropping dead for the average driver (motorheads are a different breed) at around 50,000 miles. Same with the Ford Pintos (which were known to explode). Long story short, most American cars of the 70s had planned obsolescence built in. Enter Toyota and Honda. Enough said. I bought a new RK 25 tractor (basically a TYM T 25) because I liked the guys at our local RK store, and also because it was half the price of green and orange. To be frank, I'm not a fan of all the Woke BS that overwhelmed our government and media in the last 10 or so years (which has roots all the way back to the earliest communist writings). But now that the political current in DC has flipped, I see the same sort of BS coming out of the side I switched to because of the insanity of the Left. "One-and-only-right-wayism" is the same horse of a different color. That's my incredible earned opinion. But unlike the know-it-alls, I could be wrong. Thanks for the great channel! You made my day!

If Case/CAT/Deere made machines that actually didn't require intense servicing and repairs, given their retail prices, there wouldn't be a market for these Chinese machines. It's unacceptable that Deere makes a 3 ton wheel loader that costs 180K new, and breaks down so regularly it's a running joke. If I'm going to spend "X" amount on repairs anyways, why spend four times the price on the machine? If you look at repair components for these imported machines, you'll see they are very similar price-wise to those of the big-name brands.

While i personally dont like chinese products for a few reasons, (lack of quality in products, lack of loval support for maintenance or issues, massive language barriers) i cannot deny their pricing is more palatable up front. Abd several comments have posited proper questions, if cheap labor and lower costs mean better pricing, how do you explain the same product made in america, having moved manaufacturing to china, cost the exact same as when made in america but with lower quality? I think the economical question would require a savant or paragon economist to put all the strings together to explain or find the reasons for such discrepancy in pricing. Personally i like wrenching for myself, so if i could find a great deal on used, i would do that, but even used market is insane. With last 24 hours jacking up bids 10x or higher then when i find something that looks like a great deal. Its ridiculous. Buy what you feel most comfortable with. America coukd compete if it wanted to, but it doesnt. We are all stuck on this poverty, middle class, elute mantra, but its working class elite class, no inbetween.

I for one Brock like to see the many options. I do not do this for a living. My homestead and leased land is a hobby. It COSTS me money, does not make money. My KZbin channel COSTS me money, not make money for me. WHY do I do it? Because I like doing it. I have to make my money go as far as I can as long as I can. I would absolutely love to go up and buy a brand new 2 to 3 ton excavator with A/C and heat. I cannot. I cannot afford to spend that much money on something that does not make me money. SOOOoooooo, I have to look at much cheaper options available out there. I also have selective wants, you might say. The ultra cheap mini exs with little gas engines are just not powerful enough or stable enough for my needs on 280 acres. I need a longer tracked Mini ex with at least 3 idle rollers on bottom. I want to thank you for the insight and explanations for everything.
