Very sensitive. My eyes used to be med brown and now after many years the iris is a pale blue with the outer edge in a green and a very small area still remains brown. I also got astigmatism and toric. I asked if I could get Lasix surgery but I was told no. Also something about my cornea detaching in the back of the eye.

I learned so much about light sensitivity causes by watching your video. Thank you!! Now I understand why I was so sensitive to light. It's better now. I take riboflavin (vitamin b2) for migraines. And the warm compresses and eye lid cleaning helped with the blepharitis. I had no idea blepharitis can cause light sensitivity. Thanks for the helpful information.

Thank you for a very informative video, I had light sensitivity Post menopause which my optometrist advised was related to dry eyes, she recommended eye drops 4 times a day and warm compresses daily and encouraged me to reduce contact lens wear. It didn’t take long to see a big improvement. I now use systane eye drops twice a day and wear glasses for work and contacts for going out. I am actually enjoying rotating a few different pairs, so many gorgeous frames available.

My fotofobia started 3 years ago when I got dry eyes/blefaritis. For the past 2 years every test comes out ok, but I can't stand watching a screen without a blue light filter or FL41 tint glasses. I also suffer from daily headaches, but they seem to be tension headaches and not migraines, so I'm not sure if the 2 conditions are related. Blue eyes here 😞

Due to my issues with all the eye STUFF & thank goodness I live in a Cdn province that is not Liberal nor Conservative as they allow all the privatization. My eye surgeon is CDN and US board certified and she has saved so many incl they specialize also for those that have diabetes. It traumatizes me watching all these pple i.e. US that do not receive eye and dermatologist care like here. I am sure we have all watched those SHOWS ....omg it makes me so mad. Thank you for sharing this as it will help me so very much to share.

@@DrRupaWongmy light sensitivity is so bad that I cannot have the latest iPhones just the IPhone 8 screen doesn’t give me headaches when I use night mode! I’ve lost my car sales job due to light sensitivity and I’m currently working from home because there’s nowhere else I can work due to chronic light sensitivity. I’m only sensitive to artificial lights. I had my eyes checked at the hospital they couldn’t find anything so maybe it’s neurological? I take amitriptyline to have less daily migraines and I wear tinted glasses. I’m getting Botox done this weekend I’m hoping this works because I’ve tried everything else at this point…I just want to get back to a good paid career again because nowadays I’m always broke and I’m back to being a single dude again lol

I sit in an office with the overhead lights off, and lamps on behind me. They call me the vampire woman! Ha! As sensitive as I am to indoor lights (especially fluorescent bulbs), I've noticed recently that I'm not always as sensitive to the outdoor light - unless it's particularly strong. As far as I know, I do suffer from chronic daily headaches and chronic migraines. The intensity of either type of headache seems to directly correlate to my eye sensitivity. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find a med that will help either type of headache. Thanks for your insight. I'm enjoying your videos.

Very interesting video. I've aways had really bad light sensitivity, to the point that a lot of times I can't even drive without sunglasses, the light makes me squint to a detriment and my eyes will water endlessly. I am also pretty easily overwhelmed by indoor lighting too, I prefer lamps, candles, or even darkness to ceiling lights. Which as you said, doesn't necessarily help things. I had never really realized it was its own condition because I'm just so used to it, but I think I'm going to ask my doctor about it. Also, my eyes are brown.

When you mention different wavelengths, I think when December hits, my eyes are really sensitive to light, and also when it’s cloudy. I always wondered if it had to do a daylight savings. In the spring and summer months, I’m really driving outside after dark. Once November hits it gets dark a lot earlier, and I’m running into a lot of bright hair, lights and bright tail lights. That also means I’m dealing with bright indoor lights for four hours instead of two before bed since it gets darker earlier.

I've had sensitive eyes since I was a child. My parents joke that all my childhood photos my eyes are tearing and I am looking down. My mom and sister also have green eyes, but their eyes aren't sensitive. I can't wear mascaras or any eye makeup. Some moisturizer make my eyes tear even if I work carefully around the eyes. I've had to pull off while driving because my eyes started to tear due to the airvents. I normally have to close it. If I'm tired, my eyes are 10 times more sensitive to light. Even if someone just talks about eyes, my eyes tear! I went to a specialist before as I got eye infections often. He advised that my eyes are very dry and there is almost no oil in it. But here I have been struggling with this for over 30 years!

I wear brown tinted contacts and also sunglasses. I wear them a lot indoors because I really struggle looking out of a window - is this bad for me to wear them indoors too?

I cannot live a normal life ! My doctor said that there is no inflamation or something else inside the eyes! The surgeries are perfect and it will go away by time ! It may happen because of the stress my brain cannot adapt to the new situation with the new clear lenses! Have you ever met a patient to need so mamy moths to adjust to the new lenses! Is it a possibility never to adapt to new conditions? Thanks for listening me

Very interesting video. I have always had some sensitivity to light but especially now. I am 56. I have very light grey eyes, almost silver. I find itbterribly hard to drive at nigh with headlights almost blinding me. Also the glare of road signs hurts too. Sunlight is also bad and my eyes will water. I use yellow tinted anti glare glasses at night and sun glasses in the day time. Haven't been able to afford to see an eye doctor in a very long time.

Hi Dr. Rupa, The eye is very sensitive to light, so be careful. The fundamental eye is also very sensitive to its average value of Accommodation. This is why I believe that insisting your kids never get eyes closer than 16 inches, and Atropine use - will make them successful. Your attention to them will help them, "get the idea", and will create long-term success for them. I admire both you and your husband for your efforts. Prevention, is truly a family effort!

I've always been light sensitive, but I don't think it necessarily has a single cause. I do have light eyes and, having lived on three continents (so far), I do find natural light harder to bear the closer I am to the equator, but, generally, if I'm inside and the light is diffused, I'm fine. What's harder to deal with is artificial light, and I think that's due to my astigmatism. Exposed (or even partially exposed) light bulbs are unbearable to me, even in my peripheral vision, and of course I can't drive at night without glasses due to the glare. I used to have migraines, starting in childhood, but they've pretty much disappeared in my 30s, and I have no idea how that happened, I just thank my lucky stars. Overall, it's unpleasant, but not unmanageable. Sunglasses outside during the day, glasses in traffic during the night, making sure all our lampshades diffuse the light, always having eye drops handy for when my eyes are dry and/or tired. At least it's not so bad that I have to wear sunglasses inside. The only problem now is that my eyesight is getting worse with age, so I guess I'll eventually need to get some sort of prescription glasses + sunglasses combo, which I'm expecting will be an expensive hassle.

I'm 26 years old, all my childhood life to now. I've always been sensitive to the light. It was 4 years ago that I finally found out I have blepharitis, which also made lots of sense when I had lots of styes and chalazions over the years. To a point, I had to remove some surgically. :/ It also caused dry eyes too. I can't wear contacts anymore. After high school I had ulcers in both eyes. 😅 I've had a lot going on with my eyes

Hello Doctor, have you ever heard of a child suddenly being extremely sensitive to light? He can't go outside if it's sunny cause it will cause a lot of pain. He cries uncontrollably from the pain. The indoor house lights have to be dimmed down considerably. 2 doctors and none can figure it out. He's too young to speak and he won't let the doctors examine his eyes. It's been weeks now
