I booted this game up in vr with my quest pro and virtual desktop, and maxed out the graphics. The biggest wow moment for me was when I'd taken off in my ship and flew over to the next planet. While sitting in my cockpit high up in the atmosphere, leaned over to the left and looked down through the clouds to the surface of the planet and saw little islands with trees on them. This is the most immersed I have ever felt. My gaming chair was my cockpit chair and I felt like I was actually inside the game.

When this game launched, it failed in so many ways (broken promises, bugs galore, cut content, etc), but it's seriously become one of the if not THE most triumphant redemption arks in gaming. I can't get enough of this game. They stuck with it and persevered. The story is really trippy and the soundtrack and atmosphere is just beautiful. you can explore MULTIPLE GALAXIES, each with like millions of stars. The expeditions are fun as hell too. They're basically like...'expansions' that take place parallel to your main save(which you can switch back to at any time), and each expedition offers unique rewards AND exotics that you can then take back to the main save once the expedition is done. Expeditions are also community based, so you're exploring the galaxy alongside other players (a feature which was shown pre-vanilla release that was missing upon launch).

Disagree. The game was released too soon and Sony hung them out to dry. They didn’t break any promises. People just hyped themselves into outer space and expected things that were never actually promised…or expected things on day one that were talked about as long term plans. Hello Games didn’t deserve what was done to them at the time…and they have delivered on this game in spades at this point.

The initial release for NMS damaged its reputation so much that majority of players either still refuse to play it or have no idea it even exists. Before the release Sean Murray put a lot of trust into the publishers who basically used him as a front man to hype the game up to expectations that no one could fulfill. Personally i get the vibe Sean Murray has a bit of regret during his interviews talking about the game when asked about how far the game has gotten, but HelloGames turned the game around and made strides of accomplishments with their updates; which are all free. Taking an introvert who loves games and making his dream game, then having to speak in front of thousands of people, telling them insane features that prob wouldn't be possible for the next 2 years breaks my brain. I could never do it and i respect HelloGames for making a come back. Most would've just cashed out.

I think one of the unspoken crazier elements to NMS's insane comeback is actually Sean Murray's comeback. Like the easiest comparison to make to him is Todd Howard, someone who frequently shows up on videos or at events and tells you all about how he's this huge nerd, he really loves video games and making video games, etc. He really tries to sell you this "I'm just like you" narrative, and it might very well be true. Way back when Bethesda was great, I could easily be convinced of that. But after lie after lie, failure after failure, his words started ringing hollow. He's not like us, he's just a salesman giving a pitch. And when NMS first launched, that's what I thought of Sean Murray. I thought "here's a guy lying to us about how much he cares to get us to buy his product". But no, he actually does care, and he's shown that update after update after update. He's not just a salesman, he IS one of us. He cares deeply for his product. And I just think that's so cool.

Try it once in ps vr2. You won't look at this game or VR the same. It's beyond stunning. But normal play is just fine. Awesome that it comes with both modes available.

I’ve stood by this team and game since launch. It was rough when it first came out, but Hello Games redeemed themselves years ago and continue to pour their hearts and souls into this. I’m so proud of how far they’ve come and for not giving up after a controversial start.

Been on a week long binge of nms since worlds dropped having a blast since i didnt play since the initial launch of the game, completed it once and never touched it. It is absolutely insane how much has changed, and how more stuff you can do, the ships have so much variety, the sentinel ships are all randomly generated and look fantastic, same with the living ships. Finding out i could make a pirate freighter surrender by shooting all their cannons and then taking that freighter over was insane aswell.

@@purgatory6611 It's not actually 18 quintillion since they aren't generated, but it's the potential max of unique planets. Plus that number is probably higher now since they keep adding more variables, but it also depends on how you want to count unique planets. But yes 18 quintillion was the marketing iirc.

I am loving your discovery of NMS. Been playing since 2017 and it's changed and evolved a MF ton. You can go anywhere... You can change planets, or change systems, or change galaxies. Build bases, expand a fleet of frigates, be a space pirate... It's amazin.

ive played this game since launch. it is the coziest, most relaxing exploration game you could ever get. turn up the difficulty on survival for some stress too. the seemless gameplay with no loading screens is just fantastic and has kept me busy for the past 8 years when im not playing destiny or titanfall. its an absolutely fantastic experience that you can literally play forever and always explore new planets and systems. i love being able to have a true space exploration game

I have been playing NMS since day 1. I said from the beginning that if the devs stick with it, it will become something very special. Thank God they did. Every update ,every event, every expedition(we're on 14 now) has been free. The game we have now is very different than the one we started with. It will never leave my hard drive. NMS can be played solo, with friends in or out of VR. It is truly amazing in VR. I am really looking forward to LNF. I think it will be amazing as well.

And like you said it's definitely the best time to get into the game now cause the expedition lasts 6 weeks. Who knows maybe you'll start playing this while you wait for the new episode (or whatever they call them) on Destiny😆

No Man’s Sky is a game I genuinely love. I’ve been playing it since day one, and I’ve stuck with it through the bad and to present day. It’s a game that for me allows me to just kind of get lost in a different universe for a while. That being said it’s still a massive ocean that only a few feet deep. There aren’t any real in-depth mechanics or puzzles. The story that is in the game doesn’t result in much. You have base building, but that kind of always contradicts the core focus of the game which was to explore the stars. I haven’t had time to play this latest update but I know plants did feel repetitive, especially when you’ve really put in the time like I have. It’s not for everyone. I think it’s an amazing game, yes there was a lot of drama at launch it wasn’t even half of what was promised. Any other game studio and developer would have just abandoned ship and cashed out, but these guys really turned things around and every update they’ve released since launch has been free and have almost always had some big changes and features added.

It’s the ultimate sandbox game. The problem is that Sony hung them out to dry at launch and did nothing to help them manage expectations. So people got mad that things weren’t in the game that were never actually promised. When Murray talked about the game from the POV of a developer’s vision (which he has long since realized, and he now talks about this game like a proud parent)…all people heard was marketing. But Sony did nothing to step in and fix things. The just abandoned Hello Games to flounder…and I tip my hat to these guys have the strength and the character to claw their way out of the hole Sony dumped them in.
