Why Aren't You Air Pruning?

I used bags from WALMART! Just a cloth bag fits great in the bucket...good luck! Works great.

I “Swiss cheesed” all of my pots with many drilled holes. Stagger the holes and don’t drill too close together.

I use cotton cloth for this process, what material do you use?, any better Idea.

Bonsai Hunter believe it or not these are just Walmart bags! Haha they fit perfectly and the zip-tie keeps them in place. Cottoncloth is much better I’d be the first to admit however the Walmart bags can be reused. I use to get 2 and sometimes 3 grows before replacing.

Thanks for your comment! Had many overflows? lol That's the only downfall of this system is the lowest level waterline but once it gets dialed in it is bulletproof!

Easier to just use a fabric pot in my opinion. I speak from experience. I am in the middle of an experiment with diy breathable planters, and cloth pots1-3-5-7 gal pots so far looks like better growth in the clothe pots. Also water at bottom of bucket attracts knats, and gets an oder. Especially if your an organic grower, like myself, using compost teas, and organic ammendments.

I’m sorry bro I haven’t used this system in a long time. It was easy though. Had a barrel with a float valve and that’s it. Just remember the water will find the lowest point so it’s critical they’re all even and level. If not...YOU WILL KNOW BECAUSE IT WILL FLOOD! I had many and cleaned many a flood. Good luck.

You answered below that you use Walmart bags. Do you mean the cloth shopping bags made to replace the common plastic bags?? Watching the video, looks like store bought grow bags. But I do like the idea of the bags in the bucket with air holes.

Dan Learned yep that's exactly what we used. Why don't you like the idea? The whole premise is they make the roots air prune. Pretty cool. What were you thinking the dirt was in?

Thanks for responding. I DO like the idea, just wanted to be sure that's what you used. Considerably less expensive than commercial grow bags and these DO have handles, something missing on several brands of grow bags. I will definitely try this on my next lil' grow.

Dan Learned only problem I had was I need a way to keep the bag in position so I fixed that with a really big ziptie! I want to say 60" zip tie.

I understand the purpose of using air prunning. But, My question is. Because your only growing a plant in the pot for a few months! Do you end up with a bigger plant size?

windowpane0 I did not find that in my grows. I believe the pot limits the plant size a bit versus the ground. As expected of course! Thanks for watching!
