What's good about tumblr is that follower numbers aren't visible, only to the account holder, which is better than having it on public display. I may as well leave some tips for any "twitter refugees" here: - put a profile picture and a title to your blog(s) please, and make a post or reblog before following anyone, otherwise you look like a bot, and will probably be blocked on the spot because of that. feel free to make as many blogs as you want, they essentially act like different accounts. reblogs>likes. please reblog art, as likes essentially count as bookmarks, since tumblr doesn't have a algorithm (it does, but people rarely use it) do not act like a twitter user. don't even say "im new here!" tumblr users are (naturally) scared of twitter refugees due to the actions twitter users are known for. if you do those actions, don't do them here. and yes, the only thing that has been unbanned is unclothed people, but use the community labels correctly I think that's all the tips i can think of

I've always said that Twitter is not really great for someone who just wants to browse art. Only the most recent art will be able to be found, trying to find good older stuff is so swiftly buried that it feels pointless to try. All it gives to artists in my opinion is temporary fame if an art piece does pop off, which only lasts until the next viral tweet. I could be wrong, but that's my view

I've been loving my time on Tumblr. I revived my account around late 2019, early 2020. I feel more seen on Tumblr than anywhere else, even outside of making art posts. Because there are so many communities on there, as there would be on any other site, even if my art posts aren't seen by the art community, they're seen by other communities (like if I make fanart for a show or a game I like, I'm more likely to see interactions from people who are also fans of that game or show). And sometimes I get surprised when old posts start gettings notes because more people find it. That's not something I've seen on my other socials. They usually get attention once and on very rare occasion, a new like pops up. I've also found that Tumblr is just better for writing things and spreading things around. I have more text-based posts than art-based posts that are my own rather than reblogs of posts I like and/or agree with. It's also better when it comes to tags. As I've used it, I've learned communities in Tumblr are very into " tag what's in the post, but not everything related to it," and that some people will ask you to remove a tag or add one if they feel it shouldn't or should be included. That's one of the things that made me slowly leave my other socials for Tumblr. While I love seeing original content, I'm also a big fan of fanart. And more often than not, tags for certain characters or ships were full of art that didn't involve them. They were there solely for the sake of the post being seen and that left a negative feeling for me. Tumblr is great for tags because not only do I see the things I ask for, if I have a blocked tag, it blocks it out for me, but still gives me the option to see it, which I usually do if it's a post from someone I follow. And while I do still post on Instagram and TikTok, Tumblr feels the most like home to me. I find it very amusing to see Tumblr ads for Tumblr on Tumblr, but the one that sticks with me says: Tumblr: Fandom, art, chaos. And that sums up Tumblr very well. You have artists, and fandoms, and there's this sense of chaos to it, and it's all enjoyable. I don't plan on deleting my twitter, but I don't plan on really using it either. And if something new comes along, I might just try it out. And to anyone who decided to join Tumblr, I hope you come to enjoy it as much as I do.

As a person who got back on tumblr in 2019, I will say that unless there is a drastic change in how people interact with art on there - as it currently is the like to reblog ratio on artists posts is not great. Reblogs go to text posts with short jokes more often than artists' pieces, and that's how it's been since I joined in 2019. I went into a niche fandom where I was posting art, edits, gifs, and text posts about said fandom. My text posts and edits got way more reblog traction than large watercolor pieces, a cosplay I made, and the gifs that took me way more time than the other ones. So, I don't know for sure how well artists will do on the platform unless users begin to use that reblog button.

I know it's a few months later, but here's my take: - I never actually had a tumblr, despite it being at its peak in college and me knowing about it. I now have one. - I haven't formally left twitter b/c I do follow artists there that haven't left... but I really don't use it anymore. Heck, my phone removed it to save on memory, lol. - I found ArtFol, and while it's website version is... rough, the app is honestly refreshing. It's like a happy baby between Instagram and Tumblr, and the algorithm - well, there doesn't really seem to *be* one, so you just get what you follow or what shows up as popular/new/however you are sorting your feed. I'm quite hopeful for it- but they do need to up their website game to get a majority of the art community on board. I've also tried a few of the other "new" art websites/apps, but most have had some pretty glaring issues. ArtFol seems the most promising of them all.

Tumblr is wild, I saw someone had a sketch that had over 2000 notes and the artists finished that sketch and colored it and even talked about how they spent over a week just to finish coloring it and it got 50 notes. What's interesting is that the artist said that they were happy with leaving it as a sketch but since people loved it so much they decided to finish and color it and they got barely any activity on that work that apparently took them over a week to finish. I don't get tumblr. Sometimes the most amazing works get like 200 notes and then you go to their other pages and they get lots of activity there. You still can't even post a female nip on tumblr, so I've noticed a lot of artists still redirecting everyone to twitter for their nsfw works.

Tumblr has been kind of my safe space where garbage isn't thrown in my face every 5 minutes, so it's nice to have more buds there. I worry that the VTuber community won't adjust fast enough and decide to write it off, but we'll see.

I've already got a Tumblr account where I put my art. Though I haven't uploaded anything art-wise to it in months (the last piece of art I put on was a Starsky and Hutch screenshot redraw). Though I'm going to upload a few pieces in a few days...

Bro tumbler was lagging so slow yesterday 💀. Like so many ppl came to us because of the twitter. I have always I like tumbler or than Twitter to be honest all of my niche fandoms are still alive and kicking compared to Twitter where there’s like no one there.

I was doing a real bad job of using Twitter to promote my art. The moment I noticed that Twitter was starting to fire people I deactivated my account because I feared that the security would become defenseless. Not sure if I will go back to Tumblr yet.

HI !! I'm a fellow Twitter user and wanted to help clear things up a bit . As far as we know , whatever Elon is doing does not affect your " Latest Tweets " page . - to change it , go to your home page and click the little sparkles at the top right ! I don't like Elon , but I don't really think he's as big a dumbass as we make him out to me . This may just be me hopeful speaking , but I don't think he'd pay 44 mil for this site to go to shit so easily . - a LOT of the accounts that deactivated or were banned were from SH twt , ED twt , TK twt , Gore twt , MAP twt , etc etc . . NO contrary to popular belief , the site isn't shutting down . People took " closing twt hq / offices temporarily " as " holy shit Twitter gone " but that's not the case , and Twitter is fine . The actual system running of twt is very much separate from the entire company itself lol It is always nice to branch out when it comes to sites your audience can locate you on , but please be aware that those sites have communities apart from twt that should be looked into and respected rightfully . B4 jumping ship to tumblr I advise seeking videos on how the site actually works lmao

i learned a lot of artists, particularly one of my faves and one I love supporting because of his amazing skill, wonderful personality, and the pleasure that it is to work with, did the same major transition to tumble. so this really helped me understand why. or at least part of the reason, twitter is a shitty place
@42seven2 жыл бұрын
i left twitter due to the stress of being on there, and tumblr is so much better, I mean, we have a new stupid trend every day, though it's obvious that tumblr won't (or can't, depending on how you read the situation) remove the ban cause of apple and their policies (why can't you find a ao3 app on the apple app store? maybe cause of a good portion of the content on the website?) but tumblr is a way better site for peoples mental health, even though people are distrustful of the so called twitter refugees, with good reason.
@redmagelala2 жыл бұрын
We also get away with hateful slurs. And bans are meaningless. I'd say tumblr is better.

As an artist who's just starting out growing their platform, all these social media changes are hard to see. I spent a lot of time trying to post KZbin speed paints but the algorithm didn't rlly promote my vids. I spent almost 3 years on Instagram trying to grow, but once again, the algorithm changed. I just got started on Twitter and now I see this. I only really have luck with TikTok now, which is more of a short term audience then a long term audience if that makes sense. Should I really move to Tumblr? Is DeviantArt still a thing?

I made a tumblr in 2011 but never really figured out how to use it until 2020 (you know.. when many of us furloughed suddenly had extra time >.>...). So I missed a lot of the FFA art. But even in its diminished state, I really liked it. For me it was easy to find good fandom content and ART even for niche stuff. I made a Twitter around the same time but the vibe there was really different. I didn't totally get into it. Back to work now so I don't have time for either, but once my life settles down I would definitely prefer Tumblr even if it wasn't for the current Twitter drama. I do hope this whole thing makes more artists look at tumblr 👀and hopefully at some point we can get more relaxed rules on the nsfw stuff for those of appropriate age lol.

I’m using tumble now but it’s frustrating because even when I put the most popular hashtags now I still don’t get much feedback or any likes. And yeah I try’d using multiple blogs one of which shows a lot more Intense works but still I’m struggling here. And I’m not sure what to do

A while back, I didn't want to use Twitter because I saw how toxic and biased it was in some topics I was interested in. I started using it for art though, and the art community was very inviting and friendly. It is much better than Tumblr by far. I only post SFW, so this wasn't a reason I didn't want to use Tumblr. The issue I have is that it is not good for art no matter what anyone says. The layout is only really good for certain types of creative posts or uploads. As for the algo issues in Twitter, those were always there which is why I already used the Lists feature before the new updates. The Lists were there the whole time so why weren't they already being utilized? Because there was a mandela effect going on where users thought they could just be seen. Paying for the checkmark really doesn't sound like a bad deal when you think of your work as a business and that it's way cheaper than paying for a website. If you're doing art as a hobby and for your own enjoyment, there shouldn't be an issue. That's just my ramble, but it makes sense to me and the complaints about Twitter do not.

Actually the real reason everyone is leaving Twitter is because Melon Husk sent out an email to all the employees saying either accept this really bad work enviroment or leave and most of them chose to leave INCLUDING all the engineers that kept the vital parts of the site running (like being able to tweet, that kinda thing) and nobody knows when the site'll just stop working

Funnily enough, I wound up transitioning from Twitter to Tumblr for something completely different. I wanted to make fanart for a fan fiction and the entire fanbase for that fanfic was 95% on Tumblr. So I made a Tumblr account. I was surprised by how much my art was getting noticed. Not an insane amount, I’m still developing, but I was used to getting barely any response to the stuff I posted on Twitter. I still have my Twitter account, but I’ve been using it infinitely less.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but I will say: Use as many social medias as you can, with all your art (if you're trying to market yourself.) This video was leaning more on opinions and not looking at each outcome of changes going on, but I won't get into detail with that yet.

It wasn't long ago people left DA for Tumblr until Tumblrs rules changed towards showing any tiny hint of boobs - in Safe for Work drawings too. 😅 honestly blogger should be made viable again, or at least fixed up enough that interaction between users is improved. 🤣 I've never had many issues with blogger thankfully but then I'm someone who's been around since live journal, messanger message boards and geocities were a thing so Blogger has been my comfy fit. The fact it has content warnings for nsfw blogs and that you can use to stop underaged veiwers veiwing your work is really good and I haven't seen other platforms do anything like it. The only issue with it is if you haven't put you age in anything Google related you won't be able to view those blogs at all. As someone who made a living of painting pin ups at one point or another this has been great for me as being unable to even show tasteful nudity has been a problem as you can't show anything to clients!
