For Indonesia, we have 2.18 birth per women so its very stable growth. Philippines however still having 2.7 birth per women which can consider as high

The Portuguese were already in Malacca by the early 1500s. Medieval Europe didn't know about South East Asia, true, but they didn't know about China either. They only knew there were some kingdoms to the East thanks to the Mongol conquests and Marco Polo's travels, but Marco Polo also traveled through SEA so the level of information about the region is rather comparable to that of China. If anything, what medieval Europeans did know about was India (albeit vaguely), hence why they named every newly discovered land "Indies". China was quick to enter the European's cultural consciousness because it was a huge, unified, centralized state that was probably the most powerful country in the world during the age of exploration and for some time thereafter.
