Gaikwad has very good potential in white ball cricket. In T20 he has no place for the opening spot right now. Sanju samson sealed his opening spot. Jaiswal / abishek will get another spot. There will be no place for gaikwad or even for gill in t20. In ODI he will get his place after the retirement of kohli/rohit. Right now there is no place.

2 things i got to Say bro 1 : If you compare Rutu for ODI setup in Top 3 rohit and Virat's spot is fixed ,For another opener role Gill have scored 2300+ runs in Odis at 58 avg,2nd in Line is Jaiswal with also great List A stats ,If you consider whole List A (India + India A + Maharastra) avg of Rutu is 56.8,But devdutt padikkal have an Average of 81(in Vijay hazare its near 90),Sai Sudharsan have an List A avg of 60,With this tough competiton its pretty hard to crack the spot open 2 : Coming to T20is He have done well in T20is as well as IPL but One opening spot of Jaiswal/Abhisek is fixed (lef hander + aggresive),On the other End Rutu/Gill is the ideal choice,I have mentioned Gill becoz,he too performed well in last 2 IPL seasons & was rested for most of T20is (due to Odi wc & Tests),But Samson came out of syllabus by scoring 3 tons in a span of 5 matches and most probably cemented his place,Now samson gives one luxury to the team,Since he is a wicket keeper ,Ind doesnt need to play any other designated wk(pant,Jitesh are all subpar in t20is),Where India can play an allrounder like Ramandheep,Nitish kumar reddy or even washi or parag who can chip in with an over or 2,I would say Rutu should be patient and his chances will come,Even samson waited for So many years to get this and its unfair to saythat,Then dont compare Samson's hitting ability with Ruturaj,Samson is way ahead,His sr in IPL is screwed bcoz of previous IPL seasons where totals were lower(Even someone like dhoni have SR of 137 in IPL and 126 in T20is)

Now Heavy competition in india all formate team in opening and 1st down position .. this is the problem. 1 more issue is ruturaj is a 2 diamensional player. He can only bat and field. Gill is also same, Sanju is also same, but wat to do they are already made their position

You need to know onething if they give chance for one player that means they are trying to push them next ICC event, that the case they give chance to Rutu in Zim series. He performed well.Then why they try Sanju Samson(may be that is his last and final chance for t20i) because after Rohit retirement there is no experience player there to fill the place so they testing some players for opening so played Sanju in Ban series(I don't know why his name is not in the squad). After Sanju's performance do you think they drop Sanju for Rutu no never. Hope Rutu will get a chance after 2026 t20 event, that is also if Sanju doesn't perform well. So stats doesn't matter if anyone performed will(only if they not a senior player).

It took several years for Samson to Cement his place because of all the senior players. He needs to Keep Grinding like Sanju & SKY because getting a chance in Indian team is very Competitive. Rutu played well in domestic FC games last year & He was picked for India A Tour of Australia where He failed there to get selected to Team India squad. Abimaneyu Easwaran was selected in the squad because he played better than Rutu in Domestic FC and India A (comparatively). Current VHT 2024-2025 Rutu scored one century all other games He got out for single digit & His team was selected for semi's only because of his team mates. If He doesn't play well in Semi's and Final He will surely be dropped for ODI squad against England as well. Why don't you guys see his recent performance instead still holding onto past Average and form ? SMAT is not only used to select players for IPL thats a very wrong perception.
